All Tied Up *Weekend Open Thread*

No, not me. I’m fine. But since this has been such a difficult, stressful period for so many of us in terms of the political realm, I thought I would share something from my cruise that is totally just for fun.

What could I possibly be referring to as “all tied up” on a cruise? TOWEL ANIMALS, of course! Our steward, Alfonso (from Belize) was a master of towel animals. He knew we absolutely loved them, and went all out on them.

In fact, one night, we decided to stay in our suite and have room service for dinner so we could watch a movie and relax some. The time when the stewards made these creations was usually when people went to dinner, so we kind of messed Alfonso up that night. But he was not to be deterred, oh, no. He waited until we went out for breakfast. The one he had waiting for us was adorable. I’ll let you know which one that was.

Without further ado, I present you the Norwegian Sun Towel Animals by Alfonso:

This one reminds me of Jar Jar Binks from the Star Wars Prequel movie:

This is the one Alfonso made for us the next morning when he couldn’t make it for us the night before:

This one absolutely cracked us up when we walked into the cabin. How funny is this? Cute:

The talent of our steward, and others, is pretty impressive, don’t you think? Oh, and of course, there were always a couple of Andes mints with them. Those were the most appropriate candies they could have possibly used considering where we were.

Anyway, it just made an already amazing cruise that much more fun, just waiting to see what Alfonso was going to do next.

DSC_0053And since I am all about having a respite this weekend, I wanted to share something else with y’all. Our dog, DJ, is absolutely OBSESSED with going for rides in the car. He now associates us getting the trash and recycling together to take to the dump as a primo time for a ride in the car. He loves to have all the windows and sun roof open so he can get maximum wind and smells effect.

One of the other things he seems to enjoy (or it could be complete anthropomorphism) is listening to music as we drive to the dump then around our small neighborhood. This past week since we have been home, a couple of favorites have stood out (and one of these was just from taking him for a spin around the neighborhood because he SO wanted to go for a car ride – goofy boy. I suppose the same could be said for the person – me – who TOOK him on this neighborhood jaunt). Both songs are total classics, and I hope they make you tap your feet as much as they made DJ wag his tail.

First up, the Bangles:

What a band they were/are. They have a number of songs that are just so memorable (one of my all-time favorites of theirs is, “Eternal Flame.” LOVE that song.).

Speaking of great bands, there is no denying the next group who sang DJ’s tail-wagging pick is a great band. For heaven’s sake, there is an entire musical based on their music. That would be ABBA, and DJ’s pick for you is the title song for that musical, “Mamma Mia”:

Just gotta love ABBA.. So many songs that were woven into the fabric of pop culture and that stand the test of time (like the Bangles too, I might add).

So those are DJ’s picks for this Weekend Open Thread. Feel free to add your own favorite tunes, or photos, or comments about the upcoming Primaries, or whatever else is on your minds. This is your Weekend Open Thread, friends!

A friend had this at Facebook. I guess Greta is in the tank for Trump. Disappointing, that. Dana Loesch, OTOH, is something else (in a good way):

  3. kenoshamarge Says:

I loved ABBA! My favorite was Dancing Queen. Needed some cheering up this morning because it’s snowing. Hard. Hey Piper is it snowing up by you?

Sarah Palin says immigrants are being enticed to the U.S. with GIFT BASKETS in bizarre GOP dinner speech promoting Trump

Philip Rucker, national political correspondent for the Washington Post said that ‘8 mins into her speech at GOP dinner and no applause yet. Some eye rolls and phone checking tho’, and suggested Palin ‘has faded’.

He later added in that 14 minutes into her speech there was ‘still no applause’, but there was ‘some laughter when Palin says “Trump talks rationally”‘.

Gray said that when Palin finished there was ‘mild applause’ and that the ‘whole thing was awkward’.

My admiration for Sarah Palin began to fade when she resigned as governor of Alaska. It has continued to fade through the passing years.

When she endorsed Trump I lost all respect for her. Her 15 minutes are done. She needs to go back to Alaska and see if she can’t put her family back together.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Good heavens. You are so right – since she has endorsed Trump, she seems to have lost her mind. Or maybe she lost her mind and THEN endorsed Trump. Don’t know which.

It astounds me that she left her husband at home to go stump for Trump after he just got out of the hospital (very bad snowmobile accident). Telling that…

    • piper Says:

We basically voted for her in 2008 given how we felt about McCain.

Agree about losing respect for her after she resigned the governorship. Other governors have remained in office after much worse troubles. Couldn’t refute argument that she was a quitter when faced with conflict.

Given her husband’s serious injuries, she should have remained in Alaska not on the campaign trail. Question – what has Donald PROMISED her?

    • piper Says:

Another problem here – I’m an immigrant who came to this country in the 50’s. My parents waited 5 years before we were approved and both worked hard for many years before they saved enough to buy a house and start a business.

Agree that we have a problem with illegal immigration but we need to come up with a realistic plan and enforce the laws on the books.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

And I, for one, am glad you and your family came here! Your family are poster people for how immigration SHOULD be done in this country. I have ZERO problem with legal immigration – my brother in law is from New Zealand – but do it the right way (unless one is seeking asylum, also a good reason to be let in).

No doubt the laws need to be enforced. Absolutely. It is not fair to those who do it the right way for so many others to be able to jump the line…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

1/16 of me is Native American. The rest is immigrant. All worked hard to come and worked even harder once they arrived. They didn’t think the American Dream could be achieved just by showing up. You have to work and fight for it and they did.

We have some good laws on the books that should either be enforced or changed. It says bad things about us as a law-abiding nation when we ignore our own laws. It says worse things about us when the people who make the laws want them ignored.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

EXACTLY, Marge! You do have to work at it and not just show up. That is what so many of our forebears did, and GLADLY. They didn’t bitch and complain, demand a bunch of entitlements, and all that. They were GRATEFUL for the opportunity to be Americans.

          Somehow, that has gotten lost…

Amen to the point abt the laws, too. Spot on!

The towel animals are awesome. So nice to return to your room and see this talented person art.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I forgot to mention the towels animals. Like Piper I thought they were amazing. Imagine being able to turn a towel, of all things, into little works of art.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Aren’t they great? The monkey hanging from the drapes was way up there! 😀

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is terrible, Foxy! Again, not TOO surprised since we were warned abt this before the Democrats shoved Obamacare down our throats. It highlights again the problem with not really looking at a bill before it is passed, and operating solely on ideology…

  11. kenoshamarge Says:

Megyn Kelly, about the only FOX host that isn’t pushing Trump for all she’s worth is supposedly doing a Townhall with Cruz here in Wisconsin. Greta’s doing a Trump thing of some kind. Never liked Greta so don’t care what she does.

Megyn has a segment she calls “Cupcake Alert”. I though it was a joke. Not so much.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I caught this segment the other day. Did you hear Kelly’s staff laughing at the inanity of what the Harvard student’s complaint was (the roommate of the guy who had an American flag)? That said so much…

Yes – I am delighted Kelly is doing the townhall with Cruz. I’d rather her than anyone else on Fox!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

EXCELLENT piece – thank you for this, Marge!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I hadn’t heard of Steve Deace until just recently. He appears to be the real deal. I know I sure like what he wrote in that piece!

  16. helenk3 Says:

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is truly stunning news, Helen. Good heavens!!

And Foxy, well said – there is a great group here, isn’t there? So thankful for y’all!

  17. foxyladi14 Says:

Helen we can pray that the best ones survive.
The ones like us here at Amy’s place 🙂

  18. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Huh – seems the Fox and Friends team have their moments when they actually stand up to Trump. Who knew? Check this out (h/t Facebook friend):

  19. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Good grief. I turned on CNN this morning just in time to catch Trump claiming that CBS edited his comments and his saying his answer was “perfect.” But that terrible CBS made it LOOK like it wasn’t “perfect.” Wow. There really is nothing, nothing, nothing about which he will not lie.

    Here’s the link:

    Will Wisconsin Be Trump’s Waterloo?

When history books look back at the reason and the moment when Donald Trump fatally faltered, they should recall that it wasn’t the many outrageous things he said, nor was it the success of any “stop Trump” movement. It was on him, when his instincts failed him in Wisconsin.

Interesting article by Salena Zito that attempts to explain Wisconsin to outsiders. I thought she did pretty well. What do you think Piper?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, I just HAVE to hope so! That would be fantastic, and it would SO serve Trump right if this was indeed his “Waterloo” after the way he has acted.

That reminds me of another ABBA song:

    • piper Says:

Nice job explaining what Wisconsin is all about and how the various parties worked together. Mr. Divider Drumpf who shoots from the hip thinking (unthinking) thought that his divisive message would work for him here. Insulting Walker who won 3 times in a blue state and our state then bringing in a quitter governor, Palin, would somehow cheer him on to victory. And now Wisconsin’s national press person, Greta, giving him more free time to present his memorized responses to preselected answers.
Guess we’ll see on Tuesday how the voters really feel.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I think Wisconsin will put our state in the win column for Ted Cruz – the only question in my mind is by how much.

And while Greta is going to give Trump more free air time, Megyn Kelly is going to do a Townhall with Ted Cruz. I would suspect she will have the bigger, and better crowd.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Did you see that not only is Greta holding the Trump townhall tonight, but that they are REPEATING it tonight, too? Meanwhile, the one with Cruz is Kelly’s USUAL timeslot, nothing extra.

Indeed – I hope that Cruz just crushes Trump. That would make me happy!

  21. kenoshamarge Says:

This cartoon is from the Netherlands.

  22. kenoshamarge Says:

Clinton stresses Democratic credentials in Wisconsin

I am loving that Hillary and Sanders are fighting it out here in Wisconsin. That means that fewer of their supporters will be pulling their usual shenanigans in the Republican Primary.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is EXACTLY what I have been thinking, Marge – that now things have tightened up, the Dems who want Clinton have to actually vote for HER instead of Trump. I think this will make a BIG difference in states like CA, too…

  23. piper Says:

Interesting – excellent thread on how Drumpf is seducing the public.

““A perfectly satisfied person cannot be seduced,” Greene tells us. Seducers should “stir anxiety and discontent.” Yes, Trump tapped into some existing anger. But he has stoked it again and again. He convinced the targets of his seduction they were in an existential battle against “The Establishment,” and he’s gallantly taking up his sword on their behalf.
What really sent a shiver up my spine was this tip from Green’s book: “People yearn to explore their dark side.” Seducers should “stir up the transgressive and taboo.”
This is the most diabolical of Trump’s rhetorical seduction tricks, his appeal to people’s worst natures. Ban Muslims. Round up and deport eleven million illegal immigrants. Refer to Mexicans as “rapists.” Suggest protesters be roughed up. “Knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously” “I’d like to punch them in the face.”
We unseduced see this as deeply irresponsible, the antithesis of leadership. But Greene says this kind of talk is “immensely seductive.”
“I know words. I have the best words,” Trump said.
    How we laughed.”

““If you have ever been truly seduced, you know. You’ll excuse anything your seducer says, the very things you would have always found repellent,” Charlotte said. Experts who study sociopaths and cult leaders also know this.
“When we’re seduced,” Robert Greene tells us, “We grow emotional, lose the ability to think straight, act in foolish ways that we would never do otherwise.” We are more “pliable and easily misled.”
For all practical purposes, a seduced person is a crazy person.”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, wow – great piece, piper. Thank you for that. I agree – I think Trump appeals to people’s dark side. He acts the way they wish they could act but know it is wrong to treat people the way Trump does…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I read that piece earlier today. It seems to be everywhere. Is it true, do any of you know, about the Vitamin pyramid scheme? Because that should really cut into the hype about what a successful “business” man Trump is.

Today’s weather report – high 50’s and tomorrow back in the cooler – 30’s.

Even though it’s a bit windy, my bike ride is still on. Need to get sun, fresh air and exercise to clean out some of my anxiety.

    Have a glorious day everyone.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, good! So glad you get to get a bike ride in even if it is still cool (by my standards anyway!). Getting some fresh air and sunshine is always a good thing!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Watch that wind Piper! I hadn’t buttoned my coat when we went to ALDI and the wind turned it into a kite and blew me half way across the parking lot. 😉

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, my!! Good advice, Marge! I can just see Lou reaching out and pulling you back to the ground. Good thing he is tall! 🙂

    • helenk3 Says:

Editor’s note: Earlier on Sunday, Süddeutsche Zeitung, a German newspaper working with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, released the “Panama Papers,” an online data journalism project of leaked documents that claims to reveal the offshore links of some of the world’s most prominent people. According to the Guardian, the leak is one of the biggest ever, comprising 11.5 million documents and 2.6 terabytes of information drawn from Mossack Fonseca’s internal database. Mossack Fonseca, according to the Guardian, is a Panama-based law firm whose services include incorporating companies in offshore jurisdictions such as the British Virgin Islands. The firm is the world’s fourth biggest provider of offshore services and has acted for more than 300,000 companies. We’re following the story on this arc, and we will post updates, reactions and fallout. – Rebecca

      this is big

Although this article is informative, I think that many of these practices have been going on for many years in countries like Italy and Switzerland. The rich have always protected their assets both clean and dirty.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Dang, Helen – This IS big!! Thank you so much for the information. It is truly stunning. WOW!

    • helenk3 Says:

here is the website for the leak

  31. kenoshamarge Says:

I’ve watched a few bits from the CNN Townhall with Anderson Cooper but I don’t remember hearing about this. Was I the only one to miss it? Or was it not much reported since he shows Cruz as a kind and feeling man?

Live at the CNN Wisconsin Town Hall, It Looked Just as Rough for Trump as on TV

Both Cruz’s and Kasich’s presentations were greeted at times with enthusiastic cheering and applause. An especially poignant moment came when Senator Cruz was confronted by Mark Sandusky, the father of a Marine veteran who had died from an overdose of opiate painkillers, which were scandalously overprescribed by the Tomah VA. (The story dominated Wisconsin media last summer.)

Sandusky was seeking support for a bipartisan bill in Congress named after his son, which would establish tight controls on opiate prescriptions for vulnerable vets at the VA and for the general public.

Cruz acknowledged the terrible sacrifice of Jason Sandusky’s tragic life, and told his father that they were both members of a horrible club: Cruz’s sister Miriam also died of a drug overdose after a long struggle with addiction, which began with painkillers after an accident. It was the most genuinely moving moment of the evening.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I did hear Cruz discussing this with Sandusky during the Townhall. I do not remember seeing it being covered anywhere, though. I just saw that Trump did not get much (any?) applause while Cruz routinely did.

It was a powerful, moving moment with Cruz, that’s for sure…

  32. piper Says:

Look what the wind blew back in – definitely got my exercise battling the wind but loved every minute of the ride – sun, warm temps and a few puddles.

Good question about Donald’s business interest in vitamins – haven’t seen any mention of it here in the Milwaukee paper but did a google search and saw where various blogs like Slate, Salon, Daily Caller wrote about it. Also an article in the Chicago Tribune – something called the Trump Network. I like to give him the benefit of doubt but nothing surprises me about him anymore. He is a sleazy bombastic egotist.

    • piper Says:

LOL – glad you made it back and didn’t take off like the kid in ET! Ahaha…

And BRRRR. Your high today was abt the same as ours, which was abt 10 degrees cooler than it was yesterday.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

This is troubling indeed, Helen, and does seem to be what is happening in this country now…

Seems Cruz is picking up even more delegates – despite Trump trying to claim victory. That is just whackadoodle:
