“Gag Me,” And Actions Speak Louder Than Words *Open Thread*

by

I imagine that is what a bunch of high level military officials were thinking when they were told to shut their traps by President Obama and National Security Adviser Susan Rice about China.

No really, they were. That is how this Administration rolls, dontcha know. The Daily Caller has the story:

President Barack Obama’s National Security Council has placed a gag order on military officials who want to challenge China over its aggressive posturing in the South China Sea.

Navy Adm. Harry Harris believes in pioneering a much stronger confrontation with China, but the Obama administration has struck down his proposals repeatedly, preferring the tactic of negotiations and talks over action, Navy Times reports.

Uh, yeah. I wasn’t being hyperbolic. Obama and Rice really have told these officials who actually care about the potentially dangerous actions of China to shut their yaps. There is a reason why Obama and Rice want them to shut up, and reasons why these officials are concerned:

[…]  “They want to get out of office with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of cooperation with China,” retired Navy captain Jerry Hendrix told Navy Times.

Two defense officials also told Navy Times that Susan Rice, national security adviser, placed a gag order on military officials before the nuclear summit took place last Thursday, which received attendance from China’s president Xi Jinping.

The idea of the gag order was to allow Obama to negotiate privately with Jinping without being hampered by heated rhetoric from military officials.

But this heated rhetoric has not taken place in a vacuum. It functions mostly as a response to China’s construction and expansion of artificial islands, as well as its constant misleading observers about the purpose of the islands. While initially claiming that the islands were purely for civilian purposes, China has since militarized these outposts and declared U.S. freedom of navigation exercises as nothing more than a violation of China’s sovereignty. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

It is unbelievably troubling that this Administration has shut down those with the experience and qualifications to judge what is going on with China. Rather than gagging them, they should be welcoming their opinions. Heaven knows, they have a much greater understanding of military issues than either Obama OR Susan Rice.

But that is how Obama rolls. He doesn’t care what those who know about major issues have to say if it does not fall in lockstep with his ideology and what he perceives as his “legacy.”

Good grief, he is a terrible President. I cannot wait until January. Cannot wait.

Meanwhile, we have the on-going saga of Trump’sattacks on Ted Cruz, exacerbated now that Trump and Cruz are in New York. It continues to confound me that Trump and many media outlets keep acting as if Cruz was the one who came up with the whole “New York City values” thing:

Yet, we have Trump using Cruz’s QUOTING of him as a source of ATTACKING Cruz. Huh?? How does THAT happen? And why does the media go along with this, pinning on Cruz the whole “New York values” thing? Oh,right. Because that’s how THEY roll.

That said, I have to give credit where credit is due. While Trump is proclaiming that Cruz is done, presumably in New York (and elsewhere), it seems the message hasn’t gotten out to everyone in New York. Dana Bash of CNN actually commented via Twitter on the line of people waiting to see Ted Cruz (h/t Facebook Friend) as The Right Scoop highlights:

NY values? Line snaked around corner for upstate. Many voters say they don’t have “Nyc” values either.

Oops – there goes those pesky little facts again! Having lived in New York City for five years when I was in graduate school and a couple years afterward, I can guarantee you that New Yorkers think they are the center of the universe (at least many of them do). They fail to recognize that the REST of the state is not the same microcosm that the City is, much less the rest of the country.  And many of those in the rest of the state do not hold the same values as those in a Socialist-lite city. That’s just a fact, jack.

That is all to say, I wouldn’t be handing over all those New York delegates to Donald Trump quite yet.

And I know I keep saying this, but I sure would LOVE for the media to actually do its JOB once in a while and put into CONTEXT the quotation by Cruz of Trump. One of Cruz’s spokesmen, Chad Sweet, actually made that point this morning on CNN’s, “New Day,” but that clarification is NOT one the media routinely makes. Not at all. So, yeah – sure would be nice if the media actually did its job as reporters…

That’s it for me. What’s on your minds today? This is an Open Thread.

Please note that, once again, we are having AT&T connectivity issues, and yet another tech is trying to make our services work for more than a week before they start crapping out again. That is all to say, replies to comments might take longer than usual depending on what the tech is doing.

I would like to see a media that is something other than a propaganda machine for the left. I would “like” to see it but certainly don’t expect to see it.

In a free country you need a free press. But if that press takes sides, if it lets it’s own political ideology run rampant instead of “reporting” the facts, a country is not free.

I fear it will get worse before it gets better. And as bad as it is now that is frightening. Perhaps it has all ready swung too far. After all the young people who will soon run this country have been given a “liberal” education. That means they aren’t well educated at all.

I agree with Ted Cruz that school choice is the civil rights issue of our era. But voters are so busy calling each other names they never even hear that.

My Senator, Tim Scott, constantly talks abt the issue of school choice and how unbelievably important it is. I am glad he and Cruz are on the same page in that regard, and Cruz definitely has a point.

You are so right abt these young people and how unbelievably uneducated they are. It is truly stunning, but the left got exactly what they wanted: young people who do not think critically, who are not interested in facts, who know little-to-no history, know little abt our government and civics, and on I could go. I cannot help but think this, as well as the far left leanings of so many university professors, is exactly what they had in mind. Now they can manipulate them however they want – and they have. Hence why we have had two terms of Obama, and a 70+ old Socialist who has been paid by taxpayers his entire working career is able to convince them he is anti-establishment, and that they will get a lot of free stuff under him. They never ask abt how that is gonna happen, and what the result will be for them.

If they even thought abt things like debt, they would wonder how much more burdensome it would become under a Sanders Administration…

This reminds me so much of the Obama flag a Dem. group in FL had over the American flag…

The other day, I posted an article abt Bernie Sanders and his claim of 10,000 Palestinians killed by Israel. Now, he refuses to admit he said it, and his spokesperson claimed that Sanders would be THE Best choice for President when it came to Israel. That is laughable. He is very much like Obama when it comes to Israel, and Obama has hardly been good in that regard.

Obama is doing his best to damage companies in this country. It isn’t enough that we already have the highest tax rate in the world for companies (35% – just Federal), but Obama’s regulations have been tremendously burdensome.

    He isn’t done yet: http://www.wsj.com/articles/obama-readies-flurry-of-regulations-1460077858

Ohmygosh, Marge – that is SO good!!

A friend had put up this photo of a man stomping on some Oreos because they are moving to Mexico. Of course, he blamed corporate greed for it, and lamented the lost American jobs.

I, too, am sorry abt the job lost, and another company gone, but as I explained to her, it is misguided to blame the companies. This Administration has burdened them SO much with all of the regulations, Obamacare, and taxes that OF COURSE they are going to move elsewhere. They aren’t charities, after all. They have to make money to employ people, to do R&D, and more. But these burdens are chasing them away, and who can really blame them?

I concluded that the man, if he voted for Obama, has no one to blame but himself. Elections have consequences and businesses leaving the US so they aren’t spending almost HALF of their intake on taxes/regulations/Obamacare (if not more) are the direct result of Obama’s Administration…

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Our stupid government regulates and taxes them until they leave and then they are bad-mouthed for going. And there will be more with the idiocy of $15.00 an hour for people with few job skills.

That minimum wage hike is only so that the unions can then insist their wages go up since they are worth so much more. I suspect the states that raise the minimum wage like California and New York will watch many businesses leave.

And who is going to start up a small business if you have to pay an entry level worker with no job skills so much?

    Wisconsin Republicans Bid No Trump

“Donald J. Trump withstood the onslaught of the establishment yet again.” That’s the first sentence in a Trump campaign statement tweeted out Tuesday night by the Washington Post’s Robert Costa. It’s also a strange way to respond to a solid defeat, reminiscent of the Monty Python knight who insists he is winning after both his arms are hacked off.

Say HUH?? WHAT onslaught has Trump endured at the hands of the Establishment?? Good grief. What an idiotic thing to write. (Sorry, I have no filters left for this kind of BS.)

Even Hillary loses with more grace than Trump

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

True that – of course, it would be hard to be a worse sport than Trump, but yeah, Clinton is at least gracious in defeat.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Excellent list. It makes you wonder why Cruz’s experiences and knowledge are continually downplayed my the media, trying to frame him as a right wing loon hated by everyone. Thanks for this – I am going to start spreading it around!

Holy smokes – well, it is a start, that’s for sure. And abt damn time, I might add. Thanks for this! I bet Sharyl Attkisson will be all over this since she is the one who broke it in the first place.

      Thank you!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Wonder what’s up with that. I distrust him so much that I can’t help but believe he has some ulterior motive.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I see what’s up with that – he lost and I suspect he knew he would lose again. His ego demanded that he put this loss behind him so he can move on to positive things. If you can find anything positive in his reign administration.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I think you are absolutely right abt that, Marge. He knew he was losing so he is acting like he is okay with this. But there is still MUCH they have not allowed out, so we will see if they will (ever) let those papers out…

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

A friend had this up at Facebook. Trumpanzees like to claim that Trump was the one who talked abt Immigration first, a ludicrous proposition on its face since MANY people have done so in the past (as Carly Fiorina pointed out regularly). Here, then, is PROOF that Ted Cruz spoke abt it several years before Trump, talking abt a Wall and more:

What’s really shocking is that Susan Rice has the authority to tell ANY general anything. Who’s she (other than one of Obummer’s buddies? (Is she acting as commander-in-chief, or messenger?)

    Sickening.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No kidding, right?? Her experience, such as it is, cannot even begin to compare to these officials. Yet she is telling them to shut their mouths. WOW…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

You are so right Justine! She proved herself as nothing but a liar when she went on 5 Sunday morning talk shows to blame the murders in Benghazi on a video. A pathetic lie that barely survived that news cycle and yet a lie that Hillary was willing to use to the grieving families of the murdered when their bodies were flown home. Both Rice and Hillary showed us what kind of women they are at that time.

That either one of them remained in any position of power after that is criminal.
