Talk About Getting A Buzz *Open Thread*

As you likely have heard by now, it seems the Russians are testing the resolve of the United States by having fighter jets buzz by one of our destroyers in the Baltic Sea. And when I say “buzz,” I mean they were within THIRTY FEET of a the USS Donald Cook. Apparently, they were “simulating” an attack.

Uh huh.

Now, to me, there are all kinds of things wrong with this picture: (h/t

Um, this is a DESTROYER. A United States Destroyer. And it ALLOWED a fighter jet from a country less than friendly to us fly within mere feet. I mean, TWO jets, fly as close as a kid can throw a baseball.

And what did we do about it?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Gov. Mike Huckabee said on Fox Business Thursday morning that he is SURE President Obama is going to send a strongly worded letter about this (or words to that effect). That sounds about right.

I’m not an expert in all of this, but yeah, I think we should have done SOMETHING. Hey, it’s a destroyer – DESTROY! Ahem. But that isn’t how things are done apparently!  Sheesh. Anyway, here is someone who actually does know all about military strategy, Sebastian Gorka, who is a professor at the Marine Corps University, and his response to Russia’s action, and our “response”:

And there you have it. The United States looks weak by our lack of response, and have given the Russians a propaganda film they will be able to use for quite some time.

Huh, come to think of it, we did the same thing for Iran when they captured our sailors providing them with a propaganda film at our sailors’ expense.  Heckuva job there, Barry.

These actions, or the lack thereof, sure raise a lot of questions, don’t they? Why is our Government unwilling to stand up for our sailors, our Navy, and our Nation? Why are we being SO passive in the face of not-at-all-subtle pokes at us? Why does President Obama seem hellbent on weakening our reputation militarily in the face of major foes? The possible answers are just too disturbing, though in my book, he is violating his oath of office. But that’s just me.

These aren’t the only ways Obama has weakened this country. I think many of us could write tomes on all of the ways in which he has done so. But one other way is a bit more subtle, and again, is explained by Sebastian Gorka in this Breitbart piece:

Gorka did not think much of rock singer Bono’s suggestion to defeat ISIS by sending comedians Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, and Sacha Baron Cohen to “laugh at them while they are goose-stepping down the street” to “take away their power.”

“Well, I hope they’re gonna have Delta Force and JSOP protecting them, because they’re gonna get beheaded,” Gorka said of this bizarre proposal. “They put their foot on ISIS caliphate territory, and they’re dead, because they’re infidels.”

“I don’t think Bono understands: we are infidels, including him in his bulletproof little bubble,” Gorka continued. “He’s actually a worse kind of infidel, because he’s ‘infecting’ the Muslim world with his culture. He really doesn’t get it.”

Yeah, I didn’t think much of that idiotic suggestion by Bono, either. What the hell, already? Send in some comedians to deal with barbaric terrorists? Yeah – brilliant. Not.

But Gorka was only getting started:

[…] He noted that 2015 saw “the highest incidence of jihadi plots on U.S. soil since September the 11th.”

“The day before San Bernardino, both the Commander-in-Chief and Secretary Kerry said, ‘We are winning, ISIS is contained,’” Gorka recalled. “Well, you know what? I guess the jihadis didn’t get the memo, because they are winning. They’re taking territory, they’re recruiting upwards of 80,000 jihadis, and look at Brussels, look at Paris.”

Gorka said President Obama’s occasional photo ops at locations like CIA headquarters could not conceal the fact that “he’s not into national security.”

He said the Administration’s preference for vague euphemisms for Islamist terrorism was part of a concerted effort to “keep you stupid.”

“Lone wolf, violent extremism – that’s designed to make the average voter stupid, so you don’t understand the threat, so that you disconnect the dots,” he charged. “These are people who will not talk truth to this enemy, because they do not believe in the existence of evil.”

“If you don’t believe in the existence of objective truth, you cannot believe in evil, and they will never call our enemies evil,” Gorka explained. “We don’t even use the word ‘enemy’ today. Think about that. We don’t use the word ‘enemy’ as a government.” […](Click here to read the rest.)

I guess we know why the United States Government no longer stands up for our nation against other nations who engage in threatening posture: we no longer see anyone as an “enemy.” I guess they are just misguided friends whom we can surely convince to be nice to us if we just sit down over a coffee or beer. Surely our words will be sufficient to convince them of the error of their ways. So we buzz cut those mean words right out of our parlance lest we offend those who are offending us.

Some National Security mindset, huh?

So while we are all distracted over which bathrooms to use, or Trump’s latest slander and temper tantrum, countries like Russia are showing us whose boss. And we let them.

Honest to God, the end of Obama’s term cannot come soon enough for me. But we have to, we MUST, elect a President who is capable of truly standing up to these bullies like Russia and Iran. Whining and complaining ain’t gonna cut it, and a Democrat or Socialist are going to keep doing more of the same. Seems to me we have but one legitimate choice of candidates to stand up to these other countries and make clear that this is the United States, dammit, and we will NOT be treated like that by anyone. And mean it.

What a concept that is, dontcha think?

Okay, that’s it for me. How about you> What are your thoughts on this or whatever else is going on today? This is an Open Thread.

Cruz Defends NC’s New Law: No, Men Should Not Be in Bathrooms With Little Girls

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has argued all along that the state’s new law, which requires gay and transgender people to use the bathroom or locker room that corresponds to their biological gender, is common sense. Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz seems to agree.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No kidding! It has nothing to do with the straw man argument by the LGBT that people are calling Transgenders perverts or predators. No. But it IS acknowledging that there ARE perverts and predators who will be all too happy to take advantage of a unisex bathroom, and to ignore that is just, well, ignorant.

Not for nothing, but – why are the VAST majority of people in the country expected to accept having something occur, like men in the women’s room, because of the choices and feelings of a few? And it is primarily FEELINGS that are driving this, right? So because a few people who are transgendered might feel uncomfortable going to a certain bathroom, they want, no DEMAND, that the rest of us be uncomfortable so they can be comfortable.

I believe they call that the “tyranny of the minority.” I, for one, do not want men in the bathroom with me at the same time, and I sure as hell don’t want them in there when little girls are present.

Not for nothing, but men aren’t the cleanest in the bathroom ANYWAY. Why should women be subjected to THAT?!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Those who seek to force this kind of nonsense down everyone’s throat do themselves, and their cause, no good. People like you and I, who are generally pretty open minded so not want every Tom, Dick and Harry in the same public washroom.

I try to keep an open mind about these things but this is about the last straw. I’m not expert, in fact I know very little about Transgender people. But it seems to me that it should take more than some guy saying he is to get him into a “ladies” room.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Exactly, Marge. A gay friend on Facebook said he was afraid this was REALLY going to turn people against the LGBT community (and honestly, unless a transgendered person is gay, why are they a part of the LGBT community in the first place? I have never understood that..). That like you, many will see this as the last straw.

Again, I am not unsympathetic to whatever they are feeling, but their feelings should not supersede the rights of everyone else. That is what bugs me. And we had some folks before our State Senate on this issue just yesterday. Sorry, but their desire to not feel bad does not supersede my right to feel SAFE.

And yeah – it sure as hell should take more than some man singing, “I feel like a woman,” to get him into a women’s room. It is one thing if it is a SINGLE Unisex bathroom, but a regular Women’s room? No thanks! And apparently, some men feel the same way abt having women in the men’s room, too…

Ryan Is Right: No White Knights Should Apply

Imposing a new candidate in Cleveland—a “fresh face,” in Karl Rove’s telling—would represent nothing less than an act of suicide on the part of the Republican Party. It would vindicate the wildest accusations of those who view the Republican establishment as inherently corrupt and craven, lacking any modicum of respect for their voters.

It would insult the millions of Americans who have turned out to vote for Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz—an offense that would leave moderates, Independents, and the conservative base disgusted with their party to an unprecedented degree. It would shatter the party’s legitimacy.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I agree. As tempting as it might be to the Powers-That-Be, they are already doing their damndest to snatch defeat from certain victory, and that would clinch it…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I don’t think that most of the PTB have any intention of trying to foist a “fresh face” off as a nominee. Rove is full of it.

Trump and Cruz are a direct result of voters being outraged by the lies and deception of the party – anger them more and there won’t be a party left.

I think the media is hyping this more than anyone else. Media and pundits that are dumber than a corn flake.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL – I agree, Rove IS full of it! I think they just like to gin up controversy…

I stopped by our favorite farmer’s stand today while driving DJ around so a potential buyer could look at the house. (The farmers who own it have all kinds of goodies in addition to veggies and fruits, especially baked goods and casseroles.) I wanted to check in with the owners who are friends of ours abt their daughter who just had a baby (she had to be on bedrest for 2 1/2 months). Anyway, we were complaining abt having to wear our heavy jackets. Now, I realize that 56 degrees may not be heavy coat weather for many of you, but it sure is for us here in the Lowcountry of SC in the middle of April!

Oh, and it was pouring down rain today. So much for the 35% chance forecasted!
