As you likely have heard by now, it seems the Russians are testing the resolve of the United States by having fighter jets buzz by one of our destroyers in the Baltic Sea. And when I say “buzz,” I mean they were within THIRTY FEET of a the USS Donald Cook. Apparently, they were “simulating” an attack.
Now, to me, there are all kinds of things wrong with this picture: (h/t TechTimes.com)
Um, this is a DESTROYER. A United States Destroyer. And it ALLOWED a fighter jet from a country less than friendly to us fly within mere feet. I mean, TWO jets, fly as close as a kid can throw a baseball.
And what did we do about it?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Gov. Mike Huckabee said on Fox Business Thursday morning that he is SURE President Obama is going to send a strongly worded letter about this (or words to that effect). That sounds about right.
I’m not an expert in all of this, but yeah, I think we should have done SOMETHING. Hey, it’s a destroyer – DESTROY! Ahem. But that isn’t how things are done apparently! Sheesh. Anyway, here is someone who actually does know all about military strategy, Sebastian Gorka, who is a professor at the Marine Corps University, and his response to Russia’s action, and our “response”:
And there you have it. The United States looks weak by our lack of response, and have given the Russians a propaganda film they will be able to use for quite some time.
Huh, come to think of it, we did the same thing for Iran when they captured our sailors providing them with a propaganda film at our sailors’ expense. Heckuva job there, Barry.
These actions, or the lack thereof, sure raise a lot of questions, don’t they? Why is our Government unwilling to stand up for our sailors, our Navy, and our Nation? Why are we being SO passive in the face of not-at-all-subtle pokes at us? Why does President Obama seem hellbent on weakening our reputation militarily in the face of major foes? The possible answers are just too disturbing, though in my book, he is violating his oath of office. But that’s just me.
These aren’t the only ways Obama has weakened this country. I think many of us could write tomes on all of the ways in which he has done so. But one other way is a bit more subtle, and again, is explained by Sebastian Gorka in this Breitbart piece:
Gorka did not think much of rock singer Bono’s suggestion to defeat ISIS by sending comedians Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, and Sacha Baron Cohen to “laugh at them while they are goose-stepping down the street” to “take away their power.”
“Well, I hope they’re gonna have Delta Force and JSOP protecting them, because they’re gonna get beheaded,” Gorka said of this bizarre proposal. “They put their foot on ISIS caliphate territory, and they’re dead, because they’re infidels.”
“I don’t think Bono understands: we are infidels, including him in his bulletproof little bubble,” Gorka continued. “He’s actually a worse kind of infidel, because he’s ‘infecting’ the Muslim world with his culture. He really doesn’t get it.”
Yeah, I didn’t think much of that idiotic suggestion by Bono, either. What the hell, already? Send in some comedians to deal with barbaric terrorists? Yeah – brilliant. Not.
But Gorka was only getting started:
[…] He noted that 2015 saw “the highest incidence of jihadi plots on U.S. soil since September the 11th.”
“The day before San Bernardino, both the Commander-in-Chief and Secretary Kerry said, ‘We are winning, ISIS is contained,’” Gorka recalled. “Well, you know what? I guess the jihadis didn’t get the memo, because they are winning. They’re taking territory, they’re recruiting upwards of 80,000 jihadis, and look at Brussels, look at Paris.”
Gorka said President Obama’s occasional photo ops at locations like CIA headquarters could not conceal the fact that “he’s not into national security.”
He said the Administration’s preference for vague euphemisms for Islamist terrorism was part of a concerted effort to “keep you stupid.”
“Lone wolf, violent extremism – that’s designed to make the average voter stupid, so you don’t understand the threat, so that you disconnect the dots,” he charged. “These are people who will not talk truth to this enemy, because they do not believe in the existence of evil.”
“If you don’t believe in the existence of objective truth, you cannot believe in evil, and they will never call our enemies evil,” Gorka explained. “We don’t even use the word ‘enemy’ today. Think about that. We don’t use the word ‘enemy’ as a government.” […](Click here to read the rest.)
I guess we know why the United States Government no longer stands up for our nation against other nations who engage in threatening posture: we no longer see anyone as an “enemy.” I guess they are just misguided friends whom we can surely convince to be nice to us if we just sit down over a coffee or beer. Surely our words will be sufficient to convince them of the error of their ways. So we buzz cut those mean words right out of our parlance lest we offend those who are offending us.
Some National Security mindset, huh?
So while we are all distracted over which bathrooms to use, or Trump’s latest slander and temper tantrum, countries like Russia are showing us whose boss. And we let them.
Honest to God, the end of Obama’s term cannot come soon enough for me. But we have to, we MUST, elect a President who is capable of truly standing up to these bullies like Russia and Iran. Whining and complaining ain’t gonna cut it, and a Democrat or Socialist are going to keep doing more of the same. Seems to me we have but one legitimate choice of candidates to stand up to these other countries and make clear that this is the United States, dammit, and we will NOT be treated like that by anyone. And mean it.
What a concept that is, dontcha think?
Okay, that’s it for me. How about you> What are your thoughts on this or whatever else is going on today? This is an Open Thread.
