A Needed Reminder *Open Thread*

by

It is hard to even fathom what is occurring at the Department of Justice at the Direction of the Attorney General of the United States. Well, I guess not quite as much now after 7 years of Obama in the White House and his two choices for Top Law Enforcer of the USA. I mean, really – after the DOJ-sanctioned Fast and Furious debacle, releasing a ton of weapons from guns to grenade launchers into the hands of cartels who have killed two Federal Agents, a few Mexican police, and a number of civilians, nothing should really surprise me.

But then I saw this article in Townhall.com. It is a doozy, so I hope you are sitting down. From Townhall:

Two months ago Attorney General Loretta Lynch admitted during congressional testimony that Justice Department attorneys were looking into punishment for the fossil fuel industry and certain individuals, including academics and researchers. Their crime? Rejection or denial of climate change and therefore being opposed to President Obama’s agenda on the issue.

Today, five Republican Senators have sent a letter to Lynch reminding her that in America, we don’t have thought police and the Justice Department doesn’t have the power or authority to punish an entire industry because the people in it they think differently than the progressives in charge of the government.

“We write today to demand that the Department of Justice immediately cease its ongoing use of law enforcement resources to stifle private debate on one of the most controversial public issues of our time  — climate change,” the letter states. “As you well know, initiating criminal prosecution for a private entity’s opinions on climate change is a blatant violation of the First Amendment and an abuse of power that rises to the level of prosecutorial misconduct.”

[…]

The Senators have asked the Department to end all investigations and inquiries into climate changes “deniers” within 14 days. (Click here to read the rest.)

Seems to me that Lynch’s actions have already reached the level of “prosecutorial misconduct,” but then again, I am no attorney.  Then again, I don’t need to be to know that what Lynch and the DOJ is doing targeting “climate deniers” is downright wrong.

That said, I am fluctuating between anger, disgust, dismay, and shock that this is what has become of our country. Apparently, our Department of Justice, and the woman who leads it, have to be reminded by US Senators to stop violating the First Amendment in her fervor to do the dirty work for President Obama to silence anyone who disagrees with his ideology.

That is just wrong.

And that is why this next story is a needed reminder of what is right in this country. Katie Pavlich had this up at Townhall:

No greater feeling than that of accomplishment! #DutyHonorCountry (@usarmy photo by: Staff Sgt. Vito T. Bryant)

A post shared by U.S. Military Academy (@westpoint_usma) on

“I want to thank everyone for your kind and thoughtful comments on this picture. SSG Bryant captured a moment that I will never forget. At this moment, I was overwhelmed with emotions. Three things came to mind and led to those tears. The first is where I started. I am from Haiti and never did I imagine that such honor would be one day bestowed on me. The second is where I am. Men and women who have preserved the very essence of the human condition stood in that position and took the same oath. Men who preserved the Union is a dark period of this country’s history. Men who scaled the face of adversity and liberated Europe from fascism and nazism. Women like CPT Griest, LT Haver, MAJ Jaster who rewrote the narrative and challenged the status quo to prove themselves worthy of being called Rangers. The third is my future,” Idarche wrote in the comment section on the photo. “Shortly after leave, I will report to FT. Rucker to start flight school. Knowing that one day I will be a pilot is humbling beyond words. I could not help but be flooded with emotions knowing that I will be leading these men and women who are willing to give their all to preserve what we value as the American way of life. To me, that is the greatest honor. Once again, thank you.” (Click here to read the rest.)

Seems to me AG Lynch could stand to spend some time with Idarche to get some perspective on this country. Seems she could use a reminder as to for what young people like him are willing to put their live on the line in service to the Nation. I am not going out on a limb when I say I don’t think these young people are doing so for the top law enforcer in the NATION to be actively violating the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights.

For the Attorney General of the United States to be ferreting out leaders in their fields who might have the audacity to disagree with the President’s opinion on Climate Change is beyond reprehensible. She is sullying the office she holds by trampling the First Amendment in fealty to Obama.

Yep. Lynch could learn more than a few things from Idarche, beginning with understanding the concept of “honor” and “duty,” and ending with reading the Constitution. Seems Lynch is unclear on its contents…

At least, that’s what I think. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

Lynch isn’t fit be mentioned in the same sentence as Idarche. He shows the best of what America can be – she shows the worst.

The DOJ has become Obama’s tool and as such no “justice” is possible.

  2. kenoshamarge Says:

JFK wasn’t perfect and his infidelities show him to not be the man of character I think he wanted to be. But Obama? The Potty President? He was elected for the color of his skin. Sad reason to vote both for or against anyone. Either is racist IMO.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You are so, so right, Marge. He wasn’t perfect, but the differences between these two men and their legacies are LEGION…

    • piper Says:

Why would you expect anything less from this prez, Mr. Apology.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I used to think that people that said Obama hated this country were just being hyperbolic. Now? Doing this kind of thing, especially on the week we honor our war dead is a deliberate and despicable slap in the face to every member of our military. He is truly scum!

    so interesting thoughts

  5. piper Says:

While all this furor about bathrooms is going on, what secretive nefarious activities are being undertaken by the obama and his minions upon our country.

As for climate change while it is real to a certain extent, it’s a huge money maker for certain people and I absolutely certain that there are kickbacks to Obama which would explain his sudden wealth – a multimillionaire in 7 years.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I have no doubt there are kickbacks going on. Just look what Obama did for Solyndra, Tesla, and some other companies on OUR DIMES. Hundred of MILLIONS of tax paying dollars to “green” companies, some of which were already on the verge of bankruptcy.

It has become a huge racket, and our government is a willing participant in it all. Not just that, they are forcing others to be unwilling participants in spending money where they may not wish to spend it.

  6. piper Says:

What continues to shocks me, is how people can vote AGAINST their own self interest. Drumpf is not religious, not compassionate about the struggling middle class and poor. He shows his contempt for women on a regular basis and see them only for what they can do for him Who do they think they are getting? Just a reality show blowhard and that says a lot about how far we’ve fallen by equating entertainment with the privilege and responsibility of voting for the President of our country.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You said it, piper. Why Sen. Rubio did a 180 and now supports the man who was so abusive to him during the campaign defies reason. Why religious people support a man who has supported partial birth abortion is beyond me. Why any woman or man, for that matter, would support a man who referred to a pregnancy as an “inconvenience to employers” is beyond me: http://www.aol.com/article/2016/05/27/trump-in-2004-pregnancy-is-an-inconvenience-to-employers/21384917/

And here is a link on Rubio saying he would release his delegates to Trump and speak on his behalf: http://www.redstate.com/leon_h_wolf/2016/05/26/marco-rubio-proves-trump-right/

I am beyond disgusted with him.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Steve Deace talked about the wasted talent and promise of Marco Rubio on his show last night. Rubio had absolutely nothing to gain by endorsing Trump. WTH?

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I meant to put him on this morning to hear what he said abt Rubio. I have it on now.

In the Weds. broadcast, Daniel Horowitz was listing the numerous ways in which the Republican Party has caved to Democrats for YEARS now. Even with the majorities they have had, they still capitulate to the Dems. So why do they think having a Democrat on the ballot will change anything? Sheesh.

      • amarissa Says:

So disappointed with Rubio… Unliked him in twitter and FB. I advice everyone to follow these two steps, they notice when their “likes” go down and bothers them.I also wrote him my reasons for doing so.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I wrote him a comment on his Facebook page. He had a post abt why he wouldn’t be Trump’s VP – but then he turns around, releases his delegates to him, and says he would be “honored” to speak for him? Please…

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Sen. Scott has lost my vote. Makes me sad to say, but it’s true. I am not giving my vote to anyone who endorses Trump: http://hotair.com/archives/2016/05/10/sen-tim-scott-tea-party-star-on-whether-he-can-support-trump-oh-yeah/

    • helenk3 Says:

Republicans taking party before country. In history this has happened many times. It never boded well for what ever country where it happened

    • kenoshamarge Says:

One by one they kneel and genuflect to the only thing that matters to them – the party. Party before country or integrity. Sad what supporting Trump tells us about them.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am stunned that Scott said that he’d support Trump. I really did think – no, HOPED – Scott would be different from the other politicians. There were so many LEGITIMATE reasons why Scott should not have jumped on that bandwagon. But there he went. He, Rubio, and Gowdy.

Honestly, I am abt beyond sick at the way these people act, the way they are running this country – or not, and the lack of integrity shown by just abt all of them. Sick of it.

      • amarissa Says:

They not only fall to party, they also fall to power. They are hoping to get goodies from Trump.

    Ted Cruz plans

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Good for Cruz for standing firm and not capitulating to Trump. And good for him for standing up for what he believes. He is one of the very, very few…

      • amarissa Says:

I do not believe him either. I think he is keeping his delegates because he still has hopes for a miracle of being chosen at the convention. So far, one of the only ones still standing is Romney. I really hope he jumps in as third candidate!

        • kenoshamarge Says:

He keeps his delegates so that he can have a say in the “platform” of the party. And they “suspend” their campaigns instead of stopping them so that they can continue to raise money to pay off campaign debt.

I sincerely hope that Romney doesn’t embarrass himself by jumping in an election in which he didn’t run and in which he didn’t get one vote.

          • amarissa Says:

I read an article, which I posted here previously, where it said that unbound delegates can change their votes at the convention and I think Cruz and a lot of us are hoping for this event. Between now and the convention something may happen.Trump is so unpredictable and does not respect the party (as he recently proved with Susana Martinez) that voters and delegates can change their minds. We will see. I have been reading a lot lately on a possible Romney candidacy especially at the “NeverTrump” people. I think he might sacrifice himself and even face embarrassment just to prevent Trump from the presidency. Why hasn’t Ryan given his support yet? I think something is cooking…

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Honestly, I hope you are right, Amarissa. I hope something IS brewing to put a stop to a Trump nomination. And yeah, I can see Romney taking that hit…

No one deserves to be sued more than Marilyn Mosby. Okay, maybe Obama, Lynch, Holder, and a few others. But Mosby sure as hell deserves it, and I am glad these police officers are suing her (vi a link from a friend): http://time.com/4344808/freddie-gray-death-baltimore-police-trial-verdict/

    • kenoshamarge Says:

She is a disgrace to the office she holds. Until voters demand that the law and not politics determines which cases are prosecuted there will be no justice.

Obama at Hiroshima: ‘We Must Change Our Mindset About War Itself’

    https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/2016/05/27/obama-at-hiroshima-we-must-change-our-mindset-about-war-itself/

Reason 560983 for why I hate Barack Obama. I loathed Bush, I hate Obama.

Change our mindset about war? What kind of mindset do you have when someone plans and executes a sneak attack on your people and kills thousands?

I guess we owe the Japanese an apology for being a tad upset about that.

This POS disgusts me more every day. But not as much as the gutless Republicans that do nothing to stand in his way. Or the corrupt, dishonest media that has forgotten what their role is supposed to be.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

He disgusts me more every day, too. Honestly, I didn’t think I could dislike someone as much as I did Bush, but honestly, those posters of Bush asking, “do you miss me now?” DO make me miss him compared to Obama.

And Trump will be even worse…

My youngest great grandson graduated from pre school today. My grand daughter posted a video of the class singing Let there be peace on earth. I started crying while I watched these little kids. Do you think we will ever have peace on earth?

  15. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I just saw this article at The Hill. I thought Trump already claimed to be a Christian. And it could just be me, but it sure sounds like Carson is letting Trump off the hook for calling him a PEDOPHILE by saying Trump apologized “in his own way.” Yeah, sure: http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/281571-carson-trump-starting-to-believe-in-greater-power

  16. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

A friend just told me out this EXCELLENT article at Townhall by Helen Raleigh on how “Captain America Convinced Me Not To Vote For Trump”:What should I do? The movie “Captain America: Civil War” prompted me to seek answers from Captain America, after all, he and his friends struggled with some fundamental disagreement too. What Captain America said really got my blood boiling: “Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides what is wrong is right. The nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or consequences. When the mobs and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree besides the river of truth, and tell the whole world, ‘No, you move!'”

    Hells YEAH – spot on!
