A Fear of Free Speech *Open Thread*

As we hear more and more about college campuses and the ubiquitous “safe places” you have to wonder when did American kids become so fragile? The very sight of a man’s name written in chalk on a sidewalk sends some of them into near shock. The incidents of hysteria by these frail snowflakes is repulsive. How did we get to this?

Some College students have a fear of free speech. Any idea that is opposed to what they believe cannot be allowed to speak. Free Speech isn’t tolerated around these delicate fascists. No one that isn’t part of their cult of the same can be allowed to speak on campus. Some Professors encourage this outrageous behavior.

Some students, and Professors would suppress the voice of anyone that doesn’t fit into their world view. A worldview where they are always the victims of someone past, present or future. America, you allowing these sick people to “teach” your offspring. That makes you co-conspirators. Shame on you!  Take this idiot for example: Professor: That Ben Shapiro Is A Total Neo-Nazi

For one thing, you do not, if you have a brain in your head, ever refer to a Jew as a Nazi. For another thing if you are the one who is refusing to grant someone their right of free speech, and others the right to hear him, you are the one that is acting like a Fascist.

Men and women fought and died to allow us to keep our God-given right of free speech. Even this despicable “Professor”. If I do not acknowledge her right to speak then I am as bad as she is. And I don’t want to ever be that!

Better people than I, far more articulate people than I have championed free speech. They know, as we all should that if you silence someone else then someone else may someday silence you.

If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.  ~ George Washington

You have an absolute right to say what you think and believe. And I have an absolute right to think you are wrong and to say so. And I also have a right not to listen to those with whom I do not agree. Speaking only for myself I force myself to listen to what I consider absolute drivel because you cannot fight what you do not know. I cannot refute what I do not know. Here too I am constrained by the right of free speech to allow others to have their say.

I live in America. I have the right to write whatever I want. And it’s equaled by another right just as powerful: the right not to read it. Freedom of speech includes the freedom to offend people.  ~ Brad Thor

I am often offended by what people say. So what. There is no “freedom from being offended” in the Constitution or anywhere else in the adult world. Campuses are nice little “safe” places that do little or nothing to prepare young people for life in the real world. They no longer teach people “how” to think being so invested in teaching them “what” to think.

The following quote is from Star Trek: The Next Generations. It is cited by Picard and attributed to the fictional Judge Aaron Satie:

“With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.”

We could certainly use some Judges today like that fictional character in Star Trek. Although personally I’m waiting for either Captain America or the Hulk. One for patriotism and one to slap the snot out of those who don’t respect this country and what it means to those of us fortunate enough to be born here and to the rest of the world where so many want to come here and be a part of it.

One of the things I like about listening to Mark Levin is how often he talks about Liberty. So few even use the word today. And yet we are losing it slowly. Bit by bit the government is encroaching on our liberty. That makes it all the more important that we hang on to Freedom Of Speech. Without it we are lost.

While we are well aware of the attempts for a long time by the left to silence voices with whom they don’t agree they are not alone.

The Trumpanzees that have infested the Republican Party are only the latest of those who tell voters to sit down and shut up and just vote for whoever they tell us to vote for because the other side is worse.

Leadership on the right, like leadership on the left, only want your vote, not your opinion or concerns. They think you have no place else to go. They are wrong.

Excellent post, Marge. Thank you so much.

And you are right – it isn’t just the Left that engages in censorship. The Right is doing a damn good job of it too in their desire to push Trump as a “unifier,” something that could not be further from the truth as this Hot Air article highlights: http://hotair.com/archives/2016/05/31/trump-on-susana-martinez-if-a-republicans-not-on-my-side-why-should-i-be-particularly-nice-to-them/

This is the money bit from the piece for me:

” It’s bizarre to have the party’s nominee screeching about unity on the one hand while using his rallies to settle grudges with Republican critics on the other.

He hit Ted Cruz a few days ago seemingly just for the fun of it, even though Cruz hasn’t said anything more critical of Trump since leaving the race than that he’s reserving judgment on whether to support him for now. ”

This is why although I see Trump as a despicable human being I also see him as crazy. He does things like a child with no thought or reason. In a man who has lived 70 years that is just insane.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

YES, exactly right, Marge. His attacks are completely gratuitous. He has no reason to make them other than that he wants to make them. He IS a child, and insane to boot. I cannot stand him.

          I realize that might be a newsflash – ahaha…

Here’s a piece by David French you might like to read to get some idea of what kind of a man he is.

And here’s a good piece from our favorite little Conservative Cupcake, Jonah Goldberg:

Constitutionalists Need A New Political Home

Trump has made it eminently clear that his attachment to the Republican Party — never mind conservative principles — is entirely instrumental. He says he wants to turn the GOP into a “worker’s party,” which, even without the sinister connotations, suggests something much closer to New Dealism than traditional conservatism.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I do love that Jonah Goldberg. What an interesting, informative column that is!

Wouldn’t you just love to go on one of those National Review cruises with him?? I think that would be fantastic!

why is this not a surprise

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I’ve reached the point where I find nothing despicable that the man does a surprise. He is just a disgusting human being.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks for this link, Helen. That sounds exactly right for something Trump controls. WOW.

      And yes he is, Marge…

  5. helenk3 Says:

there is NO excuse for this ugly

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No there isn’t. Just appalling how these people act…

    • GinaR Says:

From that same article; I’m sure his followers will just say Trump has evolved, or that it was just business:

Mr. Trump has a controversial history with veterans. In the 1980s, Mr. Trump tried to convince the city of New York to throw disabled veteran street vendors off Fifth Avenue, accusing them of being an eyesore on the street outside his famous Trump tower.

“While disabled veterans should be given every opportunity to earn a living, is it fair to do so to the detriment of the city as a whole or its tax paying citizens and businesses?” Mr. Trump wrote in a letter to the New York State Assembly in 1991.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, Gina, that was then, this is now, Trump didn’t mean what he said then, or last week, or yesterday, or earlier today. Trust him! He will do what he says he will do!

I shouldn’t write this crap after eating dinner…

    this is funny

  7. helenk3 Says:

    I am not liking this

  8. helenk3 Says:

I just started reading the confessions of congressman X. they really do put party before country. I can see why Ted Cruz is such a threat to them. He really had some nerve putting the people that voted for him ahead of the political party.
The book will really anger anyone who reads it.

  9. helenk3 Says:

looks like trump has a toe or two in the Chicago cesspool

  10. helenk3 Says:

seems we have heard that song before

  11. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I can tell you the answer to the question asked in this headline: HELL NO!!!! (H/t Facebook friend.)

  12. amarissa Says:

Take a look at this! I think this is one of the reasons he wants to be President to make deals with these banks
