Blaming Guns And Not Winning The War *Open Thread*

President Obama and Vice President Biden went down to Orlando on Thursday to meet with the families of the fallen by the Islamist terrorist, Omar Mateen.

Obama didn’t comfort them telling them he was going to do everything in his power to stop these terrorists, oh, no. He blamed the gun for the killing, not the terrorist or the motivation that drove the terrorist.  It is all that big bad gun’s fault since, well,  you just can’t stop all the terrorists. No, seriously, he said that. From the Christian Science Monitor:

Embracing grieving Orlando families and appealing anew for national action, President Barack Obama claimed a threat to all Americans’ security Thursday as a strong reason to tighten U.S. gun laws. Counterterror campaigns overseas, he declared, can never prevent all “lone wolf” attacks like the one that killed 49 people in Orlando.

Speaking at a makeshift memorial to the victims, Obama said the massacre at a gay nightclub was evidence that “different steps” are needed to limit the damage a “deranged” person set on committing violence can do. He cheered on Democrats’ push for new gun control measures, including a new ban on assault weapons and stricter background checks.

Although he showed little hope the measures would find much support among most opponents, Obama seemed to be aiming for other lawmakers, perhaps Republican hawks eager to get behind counterterror campaigns but steadfastly opposed to gun restrictions. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Oh, those EVIL Republicans!! How dare they not want to restrict our Second Amendment rights??? They SUCK!!! Ahem. And yeah, Mateen was “deranged,” not a terrorist, apparently. Yeah, Obama, whatever.

The Christian Science Monitor article also incorrectly claims Mateen used an AR-15. He did not. I swear, these “journalists” seem to know as little about weapons as they do about Scripture, another avenue in which they are woefully ignorant but not afraid to blather on about it anyway. To the AR-15, former Navy Seal Dom Raso says it is a citizen’s best friend (or words to that effect). From The Federalist:

In the wake of the Orlando terrorist attack, the deadliest strike on U.S. soil since 9/11, Democratic lawmakers and progressive activists have responded by attempting to limit access to firearms — particularly the AR-15, which was incorrectly reported as the weapon the terrorist used to kill at least 49 people and injure another 53.

In a new video, former Navy SEAL Dom Raso explains why the AR-15, the most popular rifle in the country, gives Americans the best chance of surviving in an age of terror.

“The only way for us to stay free was by having whatever guns the bad guys have,” he said. “This firearm gives average people the advantage they so desperately need and deserve to protect their life, liberty, and happiness.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Raso definitely makes a point. It is infuriating to me that we have not even had a chance to GRIEVE for the lives lost in this most recent terror attack before Obama and the Democrats start using this attack for their political ideology. Banning “assault” weapons is all they are talking about now, not even letting the dust settle for a second, letting us grieve and mourn the loss of our fellow citizens, and reaching out to their families. Nope, it is all about taking away the guns.

Considering the recent testimony by CIA Director John Brennan, though, Raso’s point is even more poignant. While Obama claims that we just can’t stop every “Lone wolf,” or any wolf, it seems, our ability to defend ourselves seems critical indeed. Especially in light of the crux of Brennan’s testimony. It ain’t good. From The Hill:

The head of the CIA offered a dire outlook on the prospect of the United States rooting out the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), saying Thursday the terror group aims to extend its reach and is undaunted in carrying out attacks.

The U.S.-led coalition has able to diminish the territory ISIS controls in Iraq and Syria, John Brennan told a Senate panel, and has “squeezed” its financial and media operations.

But ISIS’s ability to launch attacks remains as firm as ever, Brennan said, and its areas of control outside its self-proclaimed caliphate continue to grow.

While military efforts against ISIS in Syria are proceeding, they have been hindered by the long civil war between rebels and President Bashar Assad, who is being aided by Russia, Brennan said. Assad’s grip on power is stronger than it was a year ago, the CIA chief added.

ISIS “is a formidable, resilient and largely cohesive army, and we anticipate that the group will adjust its strategy and tactics in an effort to regain momentum,” Brennan said at a rare public hearing of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“This is a global challenge. The number of ISIL fighters now far exceeds what al Qaeda had at its height. We’re talking about tens of thousands of individuals,” he said, using an alternate acronym for the terror group.

“The numbers are significant,” Brennan told the Intelligence Committee.

Brennan’s description is likely to deal a blow to supporters of the Obama administration’s efforts against ISIS. The administration has been largely stymied in its effort to calm the chaos created by the Syrian civil war and the broader rise of global terrorism. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Uh, yeah. It’s like that. The head of the CIA is worried about ISIS and us still not winning the war against what is turning out to be a powerful adversary on a host of levels. Holy cow.

We don’t just have to worry about them over there, but over here, as we are learning all too well. And the Democrats want to take away our means of defending ourselves? That is just insane.

This is an Open Thread.

NOTE FROM RRRAmy: I did to mention that I will be out of town this Saturday to next. Suzy and I are going to be in the Baton Rouge area visiting old friends and our 5 year old godson. Once I return, things will be pretty hectic including closing on our house, closing on our construction loan to build our new house, and concluding with my back surgery bright and early on Wednesday, June 27th.

If you need anything between tomorrow and next Saturday afternoon, June 25th, please contact Kenoshamarge in the Comments section. She will be acting as the Administrator while I am on vacation, and while I am out for my surgery. I want to thank Marge again for her willingness to step in while I am having one last hurrah before the surgery and during my recovery process.

Along those lines, Kenoshamarge, Helenk3, and PumaForever, have all graciously agreed to write posts when the Spirit moves them to keep this blog humming along during the Conventions and Summer while I am laid up. What a gift to have such talented folks willing to keep the blog going. I am extremely grateful to you for that. Thank you!

Have a good Father’s Day and week, everyone. Thanks again, Marge!

the democrats have played the victim card for the last 8 years.
now we have a professional victim running as a republican

  2. helenk3 Says:

I still can not stop feeling like trump running as a republican is the best hope hillary has for winning the white house. The only hope she had after 8 years of backtrack and her own baggage was for someone to tear apart the republican party. Trump is doing a good job of that. Now he says he will run as an independent if necessary. Tells the republicans to sit down and shut up. He loves the sound of his own voice but really does not want the job. He is having a ball running around the country conning so many people.
think about the things he has said

he wants a vice president to do the part of the presidency that he does not want to do

would have the military do acts against the military code of justice

would fix the debt by only paying pennies on the dollar

build a wall and have another country pay for it

    just my opinion

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I have no doubt you are right that Trump running will give Hillary the White House. I think when Bill told him to run last year, this outcome was what they were all hoping would happen. I just can’t believe Republicans went along with it!

      • piper Says:

I’m almost positive that the Republican elites are scratching their balding heads in dismay. Their choice was either Jeb or Marco. When those candidates suspended their campaigns, the big boys could have backed Cruz but their ‘stupidity’ led to Drumpf, and they are now scrambling to save their congressional majorities. Paul Ryan is now posting regularly on Facebook about the achievements of Repub. Party.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Some of us remain #NeverTrump#NeverHillary and will not falter. The slow fall of Donald Trump has all ready begun. Only the stupid party would nominate one of the few people that couldn’t defeat a disliked and distrusted Hillary.

  3. piper Says:

Ever since the attack, I’ve been saying that we need to let the families grieve for their loved ones instead of being focused on advocating for an agenda based on misinformation and outward lies. Some people listen while others can’t or refuse to see how certain groups are using the scary herd strategy to further their agenda. It’s frightening to see people responding to the hype and hollow verbiage. . In a way eye opening for me as I can now see how Germans cheered and fell for Hitler and his bombastic rhetoric.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, piper – you are so right!! I always wondered how in the HELL so many Germans went along with Hitler, but you can really see that happening with liberals in this country.

Just like last summer when Obama used the deaths of the Charleston 9 to removed Confederate flags and push to remove the history of the Civil War, this attack is – once again – being used to try and take away our rights.

And once again, we don’t get a moment’s peace to just sit with it, pray for those lost and injured, and for their families. But we can here now…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

The rush to play politics by Obama and the gun-grabbers is grotesque.

Those nasty, homophobic Republicans are the ones dishonoring the dead by offering prayers for the fallen and their families. Shame on them. /s

  5. helenk3 Says:

why is this not a surprise

    • kenoshamarge Says:

A Muslim? Are you sure it isn’t some white, Republican Quaker? The left could really get their teeth into a story like that!

  6. helenk3 Says:

    well isn’t this just peachy

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Absolutely – THANK YOU for this, and thanks to Sen. Cruz for continuing to speak the truth to power.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

As usual Ted Cruz is head and shoulders above Obama, Clinton, Trump and 99% of the rest of the politicians. He can actually construct complete sentences with multi-syllabic words.

And to contradict Trump who thinks he has all the “best” words, Cruz uses words for adults not temper-tantrum throwing 12 year olds disguised as adults.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You said it – he is so much smarter than many of those in Congress – no wonder they don’t like him. But to think that so many Republicans (not a majority, but still) preferred that childish toddler to him boggles the mind.

Something the racist left will never understand:

  9. helenk3 Says:

    good article

    • kenoshamarge Says:

West sure nails Obama. And rightly so. He also goes after Anderson Cooper, again, rightly so. I found this part of his post very interesting and informative. Especially since it contratdicts Obama’s b.s.

The reality is that the Islamic State is Islamic. Very Islamic. Yes, it has attracted psychopaths and adventure-seekers, drawn largely from disaffected populations of the Middle East and Europe. But the religion preached by its most ardent followers derives from coherent and even learned interpretations of Islam. Virtually every major decision and law promulgated by the Islamic State adheres to what it calls, in its press and pronouncements, and on its billboards, license plates, stationery, and coins, ‘the Prophetic methodology’, which means following the prophecy and example of Muhammad, in punctilious detail.

Obama Stands On Bodies of Pulse Victims, Blames Republicans, Conservatives For Terror Attack

On Thursday, President Obama descended on Orlando, Florida to push for gun control while standing on the still-warm bodies of those slain by an open jihadist at Pulse nightclub. Posturing self-righteously, Obama called the jihadist at issue a “lone wolf” and added, “Our politics have conspired to make it as easy as possible for a terrorist – or just a disturbed individual like those in Aurora or Newtown – to buy extraordinarily powerful weapons, and they can do so legally.” He said that “the meaning of liberty” did not require “these repeated tragedies.”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Ben Shapiro is so right – that is PRECISELY what Obama and the Democrats are doing – standing on the still-warm bodies downplaying and minimizing just how they died. It is HORRIBLY offensive.

  11. helenk3 Says:

    they caved again

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yep. Seems to be their MO. Not even sure why we bother with two parties any more. The liberals are running the show and the conservatives are letting them.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

When McConnell was re-elected it was inevitable. He’s a slimy POS who cannot ever be trusted to tell the truth. His hate of Ted Cruz comes from the fact that Cruz had the guts to call him what he is, a liar.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Exactly, Marge. McConnell is a complete and total jackass. Cruz was SPOT ON in calling him out, too. He is a liar, a wimp, and a coward…

  12. helenk3 Says:

maybe I am not so crazy after all

    DC and their strange priorities

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Their priorities don’t include what’s best for the people they are supposed to serve. Lobbyists and themselves? Right up their alley.

I’m not surprised considering how much money they have given her.

RRR you have a great time in Baton Rouge. Have some crayfish for me. Best of luck to you on your surgery.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You are spot on – I bet they ARE upset with her. Just goes to show them that they can’t trust her, and neither can we.

Thank you so much! We are going to be staying in a house right on the river abt 25 miles from Baton Rouge, though we will be spending time there as well. Can’t wait. And absolutely I’ll eat some crawfish for you! 😀

Thanks, too, for the well wishes, mcnorman. I truly appreciate it!
