President Obama and Vice President Biden went down to Orlando on Thursday to meet with the families of the fallen by the Islamist terrorist, Omar Mateen.
Obama didn’t comfort them telling them he was going to do everything in his power to stop these terrorists, oh, no. He blamed the gun for the killing, not the terrorist or the motivation that drove the terrorist. It is all that big bad gun’s fault since, well, you just can’t stop all the terrorists. No, seriously, he said that. From the Christian Science Monitor:
Embracing grieving Orlando families and appealing anew for national action, President Barack Obama claimed a threat to all Americans’ security Thursday as a strong reason to tighten U.S. gun laws. Counterterror campaigns overseas, he declared, can never prevent all “lone wolf” attacks like the one that killed 49 people in Orlando.
Speaking at a makeshift memorial to the victims, Obama said the massacre at a gay nightclub was evidence that “different steps” are needed to limit the damage a “deranged” person set on committing violence can do. He cheered on Democrats’ push for new gun control measures, including a new ban on assault weapons and stricter background checks.
Although he showed little hope the measures would find much support among most opponents, Obama seemed to be aiming for other lawmakers, perhaps Republican hawks eager to get behind counterterror campaigns but steadfastly opposed to gun restrictions. […] (Click here to read the rest.)
Oh, those EVIL Republicans!! How dare they not want to restrict our Second Amendment rights??? They SUCK!!! Ahem. And yeah, Mateen was “deranged,” not a terrorist, apparently. Yeah, Obama, whatever.
The Christian Science Monitor article also incorrectly claims Mateen used an AR-15. He did not. I swear, these “journalists” seem to know as little about weapons as they do about Scripture, another avenue in which they are woefully ignorant but not afraid to blather on about it anyway. To the AR-15, former Navy Seal Dom Raso says it is a citizen’s best friend (or words to that effect). From The Federalist:
In the wake of the Orlando terrorist attack, the deadliest strike on U.S. soil since 9/11, Democratic lawmakers and progressive activists have responded by attempting to limit access to firearms — particularly the AR-15, which was incorrectly reported as the weapon the terrorist used to kill at least 49 people and injure another 53.
In a new video, former Navy SEAL Dom Raso explains why the AR-15, the most popular rifle in the country, gives Americans the best chance of surviving in an age of terror.
“The only way for us to stay free was by having whatever guns the bad guys have,” he said. “This firearm gives average people the advantage they so desperately need and deserve to protect their life, liberty, and happiness.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)
Raso definitely makes a point. It is infuriating to me that we have not even had a chance to GRIEVE for the lives lost in this most recent terror attack before Obama and the Democrats start using this attack for their political ideology. Banning “assault” weapons is all they are talking about now, not even letting the dust settle for a second, letting us grieve and mourn the loss of our fellow citizens, and reaching out to their families. Nope, it is all about taking away the guns.
Considering the recent testimony by CIA Director John Brennan, though, Raso’s point is even more poignant. While Obama claims that we just can’t stop every “Lone wolf,” or any wolf, it seems, our ability to defend ourselves seems critical indeed. Especially in light of the crux of Brennan’s testimony. It ain’t good. From The Hill:
The head of the CIA offered a dire outlook on the prospect of the United States rooting out the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), saying Thursday the terror group aims to extend its reach and is undaunted in carrying out attacks.
The U.S.-led coalition has able to diminish the territory ISIS controls in Iraq and Syria, John Brennan told a Senate panel, and has “squeezed” its financial and media operations.
But ISIS’s ability to launch attacks remains as firm as ever, Brennan said, and its areas of control outside its self-proclaimed caliphate continue to grow.
While military efforts against ISIS in Syria are proceeding, they have been hindered by the long civil war between rebels and President Bashar Assad, who is being aided by Russia, Brennan said. Assad’s grip on power is stronger than it was a year ago, the CIA chief added.
ISIS “is a formidable, resilient and largely cohesive army, and we anticipate that the group will adjust its strategy and tactics in an effort to regain momentum,” Brennan said at a rare public hearing of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
“This is a global challenge. The number of ISIL fighters now far exceeds what al Qaeda had at its height. We’re talking about tens of thousands of individuals,” he said, using an alternate acronym for the terror group.
“The numbers are significant,” Brennan told the Intelligence Committee.
Brennan’s description is likely to deal a blow to supporters of the Obama administration’s efforts against ISIS. The administration has been largely stymied in its effort to calm the chaos created by the Syrian civil war and the broader rise of global terrorism. […] (Click here to read the rest.)
Uh, yeah. It’s like that. The head of the CIA is worried about ISIS and us still not winning the war against what is turning out to be a powerful adversary on a host of levels. Holy cow.
We don’t just have to worry about them over there, but over here, as we are learning all too well. And the Democrats want to take away our means of defending ourselves? That is just insane.
This is an Open Thread.
NOTE FROM RRRAmy: I did to mention that I will be out of town this Saturday to next. Suzy and I are going to be in the Baton Rouge area visiting old friends and our 5 year old godson. Once I return, things will be pretty hectic including closing on our house, closing on our construction loan to build our new house, and concluding with my back surgery bright and early on Wednesday, June 27th.
If you need anything between tomorrow and next Saturday afternoon, June 25th, please contact Kenoshamarge in the Comments section. She will be acting as the Administrator while I am on vacation, and while I am out for my surgery. I want to thank Marge again for her willingness to step in while I am having one last hurrah before the surgery and during my recovery process.
Along those lines, Kenoshamarge, Helenk3, and PumaForever, have all graciously agreed to write posts when the Spirit moves them to keep this blog humming along during the Conventions and Summer while I am laid up. What a gift to have such talented folks willing to keep the blog going. I am extremely grateful to you for that. Thank you!
Have a good Father’s Day and week, everyone. Thanks again, Marge!
