Justice For All? * Open Thread *

Yesterday was another day when we saw the devolution of justice in this country. Many of us who are paying attention see it on a daily basis as we wander and read and watch to see what is happening to this country we love. Even those that don’t have any great love for the country should care because it’s simply where they live. Justice is the roof that covers us all. Without it the roof has holes and the rains and the injustices come in. On all of us – the patriotic and those who disdain patriotism alike.

We often hear that “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”  Nor can a house that isn’t sturdy and strong. Our Founding Fathers provided us with a strong foundation in the Constitution but that too is under assault.

However today I wish to talk about justice. Because of what happened to Hillary Clinton yesterday, or rather what didn’t happen it is front and center on my mind.

I confess, as a cynic, I’m not a bit surprised that the FBI didn’t recommend criminal charges be filed against Hillary Clinton. It is exactly what I expected to happen. Expected and yet wanted so badly to be wrong.

When people like the Clintons go through life ignoring rules and laws as if they don’t apply to them we should all be outraged. Justice is for all isn’t it? Justice is for the big and powerful as well as for the small and powerless or it is nothing.

Yesterday FBI Director James Comey, in his cowardly statement showed us, once again, that if you have the right name, the name Clinton at least, you don’t have to obey the law or play by the rules.

Comey said that Clinton used “Extremely careless behavior”. Careless is when you don’t put the lid back on the mayonnaise or leave the windows open when it is supposed to rain. Careless? With our nation’s secrets? Casper Milquetoast of the FBI.

James Comey also showed us that his reputation as one of the few honest men in Washington D.C. was not deserved. What’s the going price for a good reputation these days Director Comey? Because in your own words you indicted Hillary Clinton. Then you babbled about her being

Another joke is when some bloviating politician brags that we are a “Nation of Laws” they are liars. People who say that should meet with catcall and laughter. Because they know, and we know, that it is not true. Laws are what the powerful say they are. Laws are enforced if and when the government, made up of the powerful, say they will be enforced.

Corruption and dishonesty are nothing new in government. The first malefactors were trying to get around the Constitution before the ink was dry. Such is the nature of mankind. There are always crooks and there is always corruption. BUT the Department of Justice and the FBI are supposed to be there to protect us from such people. Instead they protect them from us.

What then of the watchdogs of the people? The press? Once simply written press and now a whole technology with sight and sound and fury. And not much doing the watchdog thing anymore. Because they took sides. Once that happened their integrity, their scruples, their ability to inform was gone. There are some few honest journalists around. Few and far between and an endangered species.

Media Moguls like Rupert Murdock decide who are candidates for office will be. His “news” channel, FOX has operated as a free media campaign for Donald Trump for over a year. Watchdogs to lapdogs if and when it serves their purpose. The media on the left, which is most of media gave Trump a billion dollars worth of free press and now will spend that much to tear him down to bring up Hillary Clinton.

It’s just my opinion but the one belongs in jail and the other belongs in a mental institution. Those are your choices come November boys and girls. And how did we sink so low?

Barack Obama has flouted the law and flaunted doing it for 7+ years. He brags about his pen and his phone to make law. Which is against the law. The media cheered him on.

The opposition party mostly cowered lest they be called racists. Because if the first black president  breaks the law, ignores the rules calling him on it would be racist. What does the law matter compared to being called names by the left and their attack dogs in the media?

The painful truth is that we elected these people. The laughingly called law makers who make law that apply to me and thee but not to them.

We watch and enrich the liars and cheats in the media. We are all guilty of what our country has become. We enable it.

We rant and rave about how angry we are with congress. Then 91% of them are returned to office every election. The idea seems to be that your Representatives or Senators are bad but ours are not.

We often complain that we need smarter better people in Washington D.C. I think we need smarter better people voting for who goes to Washington D.C. Until we do we will continue to having Justice for Some.

When did Bill Clinton become a liability and not an asset?

  2. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Excellent, excellent post, Marge. And I, too, would like to know what integrity is going for these days since we Comey sure doesn’t have it – if he ever did. We thought the people telling us he did were right. Maybe they were lying to us, too…

I thought of you IMMEDIATELY when I saw this:

I am so disgusted by what is going on in this country.

Oh, and I am sure THIS will be a shock to you -not: http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2016/07/05/of-course-hillary-clinton-open-to-keeping-loretta-lynch-as-attorney-general-n2188147

Brilliant Branco cartoon. I don’t always agree with him since he doesn’t agree with #NeverTrump but I always respect his POV and respect and admire his talent. He wasn’t a Trumpanzee – he is just one of many that think Hillary would be worse. It’s the Trump from the gitgo idiots that I loathe. And the ones that still cheer as if he wasn’t a repulsive, disgusting lying lunatic. I just happen to think crazy is worse than corrupt.

As for AG Lynch staying on? No surprise there – wasn’t that the whole purpose of the two snakes meeting on the plane? Or was it more, was it a promise to put her forward as a SCOTUS nomination?

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Exactly, Marge – it was just a little too convenient with this whole Lynch/Clinton thing. And really, she has proven to be even worse than Holder, just as I feared (and why I will not be giving Sen. Graham my vote again). The Reps allowed this woman in there, so they are culpable too for the crap she is pulling.

Cannot believe this is still the USA.

I brought this forward because it is a good article even though the truth hurts

If only those who babble about “Socialism”, as if they knew anything about it, would listen to people like this – people that do know what they are talking about.

Instead our not very useful idiots prattle on about Socialism in Scandinavia – it’s not socialism it’s nanny state – wander around in their disgusting “Che” tee shirts and ignore the lesson of Venezuela right next door.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink. You can lead a fool to knowledge but you can’t make him think.

I don’t think that the FBI refusing to bring charges helps her much since everyone most likely has already formed their opinion of her.

What it did was ruin Comey’s reputation. Beyond repair I would think.

I see Chris Cillizza has a few words to say about Comey’s remarks:

“He directly disputed the fact that she said she had never sent or received a classified e-mail,” Cillizza said Tuesday on MSNBC. “He directly disputed the idea that it is possible that her account has been attacked. He directly disputed the idea that her lawyers and she had deleted only those e-mails that were personal, entirely personal in nature, saying they had found e-mails that contained sort of professional information in there as well.”

“What James Comey did today creates a number of issues for the story she’s been telling about her e-mail server for the last 15 months,” Cillizza added.

the next to the last paragraph in this article says it all. just how far this country has fallen

    • kenoshamarge Says:

You are absolutely right – that paragraph said it all.

The saddest thing of all is that he didn’t resurrect her reputation – he just destroyed his own. Fair punishment for such an act of cowardice.

He dishonored every name in the FBI Hall of Honor.

All our top cops are now politicians. Therefore all our top cops are not to be trusted.

  8. helenk3 Says:

was the FBI interview just for show?

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I think it was just for appearance sake. Otherwise the FBI would have taken a much longer time before saying they wouldn’t press criminal charges. The swiftness of their denying justice shows they were perfectly willing to pervert it.

  9. kenoshamarge Says:

Americans Don’t Trust Our Institutions Because They Fail To Prosecute Crooks Like Hillary

The FBI’s recommendation not to indict Hillary Clinton highlights institutional decay and explains Americans’ growing distrust of government.

  10. amarissa Says:

Hello to all and Reverend Amy glad to see you present!

IMHO this is what I think of the Hillary/FBI soap:

Comey is a Republican. I think he is one of the @NeverTrump Republicans (as I am). He is going the way of country before party and therefore chose the lesser of the two evils. He did, however, point out all of Hillary’s lies to let us know that she is also a dishonest candidate.

This is a very dangerous and sick time in our country. Our choices are the worst in history but… if Hillary was found guilty we would end up with two candidates that would lead us to hell: Trump and Sanders. Therefore, Comey chose Hillary as the lesser of the two evils.

I cannot live with myself if I voted for Trump but I can live a bit better if I vote for Hillary. I was a PUMA then became a Republican. Now I am seriously considering going Independent. However, at this time, the other candidates available do not stand a chance and they are not my favorites either. So, I too will choose the lesser of the two evils and vote for Hillary (unless there’s a miracle and Mitt runs).

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I can understand your thinking in deciding to vote for Hillary. Many, far too many, of the #NeverTrump people are being just as intransigent as the Trumpanzees.

I have no problem with people that decide given the two choice present they must go with one of the other. I even agree about Hillary being the lesser of two evils because I think corrupt is less than crazy.

I still won’t vote for either.

And I think you are being far too kind to Comey. His job isn’t to play politics. His job is the law. And he failed. Miserably IMO.

I don’t want activist Judges and I certainly don’t want activist FBI Directors. Let them do their job and let the chips fall where they may.

      • amarissa Says:

I respect your decision in not voting for either candidate and you are right that Comey, as FBI Director, should not play politics but… seeing that delegates will surely not vote their conscience at the convention because the party does not want to change any rules, Comey was the only card left to prevent a Trump presidency. I would even go as far as thinking that he spoke with big names at his party and told them his plan. Republicans know that this year they must lose in order to save whatever is left of their party.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks, amarissa. I miss y’all and make an effort to get by during the day just to see how everyone is and what is on your minds. It is always a delight, and a nice respite. 🙂

    one thing I learned yesterday
“truth, Justice, and The American Way” no longer exist in this country

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Hillary may think she dodged a bullet and the PTB may think they’ve won – but all they’ve done is prove, once again, that they are unworthy and can’t be trusted.

You CAN fool some of the fools all of the time. Politicians do that every election.

But with every bit of evidence in the open that people who are not fools see there is less trust – fewer who listen and believe. They are sowing the seeds of their own destruction. Hopefully those seeds won’t destroy the country too.

  14. helenk3 Says:

    surprise NOT
loretta lynch says no charges to be files against hillary

  15. kenoshamarge Says:

I have pretty much stopped reading anything that Kurt Schlichter writes although he was once someone I read every chance I got. He’s decided, as is his right, that he will vote for Trump because he thinks that Hillary would be more destructive to the country. I don’t agree and so I regard much of what he writes now with a jaundiced eye.

But this piece, which I posted the other day bears a repeat read I think. See if you think so to:

You Owe Them Nothing – Not Respect, Not Loyalty, Not Obedience

The idea of the rule of law today is a lie. There is no law. There is no justice. There are only lies.

Hillary Clinton is manifestly guilty of multiple felonies. Her fans deny it half-heartedly, but mostly out of habit – in the end, it’s fine with them if she’s a felon. They don’t care. It’s just some law. What’s the big deal? It doesn’t matter that anyone else would be in jail right now for doing a fraction of what she did. But the law is not important. Justice is not important.

The attorney general secretly canoodles with the husband of the subject of criminal investigation by her own department and the president, the enforcer of our laws, shrugs. The media, the challenger of the powerful, smirks. They rub our noses in their contempt for the law. And by doing so, demonstrate their contempt for us.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I feel the same way abt Schlichter. I was disappointed, but hey – that’s his right. Though it did make me less enthusiastic abt reading him. This piece is an exception. Thank you!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Great timing too. A lot of people are not at all happy about the betrayal of justice by the FBI and Comey. Maybe because he was viewed as one of the last honest people around Washington.
