Relax – It’s The Weekend * Weekend Open Thread *

by

Since it’s the weekend and I can’t think of anything better to do I thought I would bore you with random bits of information. In other words when it came time to post – I had nothing!

So Here We Go…

Remember when your mother told you to eat your carrots because they were good for you? Well it appears that she knew what she was talking about.

Just in case you are interested in learning to speak cat.
If one picture is worth a thousand words what do these two pictures tell you? Because we all know that a squirrel will eat a plastic bucket if given the opportunity. But they don’t want GMO corn? Hmmm

I realize this is a very clever image. Someone went to a lot of trouble and put a great deal of thought into carving that pumpkin and setting it up like that. I’m glad I don’t live next door to who ever thought that up. It would keep me awake nights.

I know this man probably has a very good reason for why he chose to look like this. It’s just that I cannot for life of me think what it would be.

What could I possibly say that would be better than what’s on the picture?

No thanks, I don’t feel like sitting just now. If I don’t pass I may just pass a truck on Sheridan Road. Just before a sudden stop. I wonder if I could talk that know-it-all neighbor into having a seat. No that would be mean. Tee hee.

I know this girl – she used to be me. And just for the record – honey was not ever amused.

Attention: Public Service Announcement. And does anyone know what the hell is a mangosteen.

Just to let you know what kind of a day I’m having…

And to end this is what I want to do when I grow up.

the site where this came from is usually sarcastic and funny.
but this article is a serious one and it is true

    • kenoshamarge Says:

It is true. The left has used race to divide us for a generation. They’ve use gender too.

The bill for their selfish, short-sighted b.s. is going to come due soon. The right has been ineffective, cowardly and more concerned themselves than with doing the job their were elected to do.

Media is as corrupt as the government and many citizens are equally to blame. The so-called Trump phenomena proves that. He’s a liar and a cheat and God only knows what else. And they don’t care.

      • piper Says:

Now Marge, they do this because it makes them feel good and they love all those pats on the back they give themselves. They’re protected from all the ‘bull’ they impose on us little folks. They’ll never denounce anything until it affects them.

A bit off the mark but this is the best I can find now.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Those who aren’t happy in spite of all the government handouts seem to think that the problem is that they haven’t been given enough. If doesn’t seem to occur to them that the problem is them not the stuff.

          Great Carlin quote.

Back from biking across Wisconsin and a bit in Minnesota. Glad to hear that Amy is back home and on the mend, and Marge is posting daily.
Found this article which I actually agree with all the points in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. My overall feelings about Ted have changed since he agreed to speak at convention. Okay I copied most of it.

‘Cruz’s agreement to be in Cleveland to support Trump’s coronation is exactly the reason people hate politicians. Sure, the image of the duplicitous politician is burned in the American psyche — citizens have accused elected representatives of being oleaginous weasels as long as they’ve been casting ballots. But watching conservative politicians capitulate to Trump’s strong-arm tactics has quickly turned the knob to “11.”

Even the GOP’s once-most promising members have gotten in on the act. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called Trump a “narcissist,” and an “egomaniacal madman” who had no principles — months later, Jindal endorsed Trump. Sen. Marco Rubio was once Trump’s harshest critic, at one point saying Trump shouldn’t be given access to the nation’s nuclear codes. In May, Rubio endorsed Trump. (One wonders how we can trust Trump with the nation’s nuclear football when we couldn’t even trust him with the USFL.)

But in politics, we are once again finding out that almost all deeply held positions are situational. Politicians are willing to take courageous stands right up until the moment the usefulness of those beliefs expire.

Yet there is one politician who refuses to alter his positions for political expediency. And that is likely why he is the presumptive Republican nominee. Trump is the flip side of the weak-of-conscience opponents he defenestrated during the GOP primary; He will cling to his positions, no matter how obnoxious or detrimental.

And that is why it made sense for voters to pick a reality television star as a major party nominee; for many Americans, politics is now simply a television show that bears little resemblance to their own lives. They see backstabbing, screaming, narcissism and scheming, while nothing of substance ever gets done. Call this show “The Real House Members of Washington, D.C.”

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I don’t agree with the Journal Sentinel and that’s nothing new.

Cruz didn’t endorse Trump. He agreed to speak at a Republican Convention and since he’s a Republican it’s his right. Trump said Cruz couldn’t speak unless he endorsed – Cruz didn’t endorse but Trump asked him to speak anyway.

Cruz has said that he felt he should speak as he thought his would be the only voice expressing “Conservative” principles. And he also said he felt he owed it to all those who worked so hard for him to speak.

I tend to wish he wouldn’t show up at what I suspect will be a tacky circus like media event.

However it was his choice to make and the more the media pounds him, calls him names, Megyn Kelly was particularly disgusting. the more I wonder if he isn’t right to speak. Because no matter what he does he will be reviled.

      • piper Says:

I agree but I wish that Ted wouldn’t have agreed to speak at the convention which I see as nothing short of a circus. Knowing Trump and his minions they’ll somehow claim that Cruz is endorsing him and the media will play it up on a nightly basis.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

That is precisely what Kelly is suggesting. That if he speaks it is an “endorsement” of Trump. It isn’t but once into the public’s perception, and Kelly and the other Cruz haters are doing their best to do just that, the truth won’t matter. But then it seems these days that it seldom does.

        • amarissa Says:

I never supported Cruz and now I support him even less. Trump insulted not only him but his wife. I think those 16 candidates who ran with Trump should have all turned their backs on this inept and hateful candidate. I respect all those who are not supporting Trump nor attending his reality show of a convention.

The republican party is doomed if they stick with this clown and I hope they pay for it for a long time! To make matters worse for the party there are now strong rumors that Trump will not serve if he won (God forbid!). It’s really sad that millions of Americans have put their trust on such a despicable human being.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

My impression was that Cruz agreeing to speak at the Convention was as a voice crying out in the wilderness, not an endorsement of Trump. I totally get that many will try to skew it that way – no doubt abt that. But yeah, since he is a Republican Senator, and it is the Republican Convention, it seems like it is his one last chance to try and bring reason to an event that likely will be the circus many of us expect.

Cruz was not my first choice, but so far, he has continued to show that he is a man of conviction. I hope and pray he will mince no words and call the RNC to account. Hope springs eternal!

        • kenoshamarge Says:

What I’ve heard is that he intends to thank the people that worked so hard for him and to speak on Conservative principles. Perhaps not even mention Trump at all. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the old Trump ego?

Whatever he says, and I too don’t wish to see him connected to the Trump 3 ring circus, those who wish to silence him do Trump another favor. He has a RIGHT to speak and he’s chosen to do just that. Ascribing ulterior motives to that is so Trumpian.

The Law Is Dying because Morality Is Dying

Tuesday, after FBI director James Comey spent about 15 minutes laying out the legal case against Hillary Clinton and then spent about three minutes declaring that he was going to ignore the evidence and recommend no legal action against Mrs. Clinton, TheBlaze’s Matt Walsh declared that “The law is Dead.”

    • piper Says:

Sometimes I wish I could discuss this ‘situation’ with my own legal eagle, he was such an articulate and erudite man who could see both sides of the argument.
In this election cycle we really do have the worst of the worst running for president. Each one in his/her own way is a sleazy crook with no morals or filters exploiting ‘fear’ as the reason to vote for them.
I can understand that Comey did not want to influence our election by choosing one over the another as both candidates are guilty of many crimes and should be held accounted and jailed.

    http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/07/11/george-saunders-goes-to-trump-rallies

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I read it and I am still confused about why people support Trump. I liked this bit:

Apply Occam’s razor: if someone brags this much, bending every ray of light back to himself, what’s the simplest explanation?

I can understand people who have reluctantly decided to vote for Trump because Hillary is just so terrible. I won’t do it but I understand it.

But those that actively “support” him and have from the beginning I will never understand. And I don’t want to. I want nothing to do with people like that. They have no brains, no decency, no morals and no interest in the truth. If they’d been in Guyana with Jim Jones they would have drunk the Kool Aid.

I used to see the northern lights when we would go to upper Wisconsin on vacation or to visit relatives. Where I live now I am surrounded by buildings and trees and can only see the moon when it is overhead. So I don’t see much of the night sky.

In a world growing increasingly ugly we need all the beauty we can find. And mother nature provides it in abundance. From Northern Lights to Waterfalls and Rainbows and down to dancing butterflies on the Butterfly Bush in my back yard the beauty is there. I just have to make more of an effort to look.

Thanks Helen. I need it too. I think we all do.

OT Anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the water in the soil? We are water restricted and I already use straw to retain moisture in the garden. We are in for a 107 week sweep and I just cannot seem to keep anything from wilting.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I sometimes use shredded paper from my paper shredder. Once wet it seems to hold moisture for a long time. I don’t think much of anything will hold up for long at those temperatures.

Perhaps someway to “shade” the plants so direct sun doesn’t dry out the soil?

I was never under constraints about how much water I could use just how much I wanted to use being the tightwad that I am.

I’ll ask around and see if any of my gardening friends have any ideas.

      • mcnorman Says:

Please do. The heat is just horrible. My poor chickens are under shade, but they cannot cool down. I give them cold or frozen watermelon, but that cannot sustain them throughout the night.
