A Nation of Lies * Open Thread *

When did lies and liars become acceptable? When did dishonesty in our government become the norm? When did we become a nation lied to and lied by? When did we stop respecting the truth and become a nation of lies?

I make no claim that I don’t lie. Nor do I pretend that I never did lie. However it isn’t a habit of mine. Lying isn’t something I do habitually. I am, after all not a politician or a member of the media. I don’t belong to the serial liar club.

The media has over the years prepared us to accept lies. You saw the process by which a cynical press accepted lies and expected corruption in the movie Mr. Smith Goes To Washington. The difference today is that the media that helped Mr. Smith fight the corruption is now a part of it. Times change and sometimes so does the cast of characters.  But lies and liars are always the enemy.

Hillary Clinton is a well known serial liar. Yet come November millions of people will go to the polls and vote for her for President of the United States. Do they accept that fact that she’s a liar and a crook and just don’t care? Is the fact that she represents the Democrat Party enough? Is the fact that she represents the party that is a dispenser of free stuff enough? Do they accept what she is for what they can get?

Then they tell themselves “she’s better than the other guy” . That just doesn’t work for me. Neither does the “he’s better than Hillary” work for me. I know, picky, picky, picky.

When you see the millions of people that blindly follow Donald Trump like some kind of vulgar Pied Piper you wonder if they are as above, just stupid. Or worse, they just don’t care. They think that he will destroy what they hate and that’s enough.

One thing is certain, he’s doing a fine job of destroying the Republican Party, which may not be a bad thing unless you don’t care that the Democrat Party will grow even stronger.

There’s a scene in the movie “Something’s Gotta Give” that simply and succinctly captures one reality about the truth. After catching the man she loves on a date with another woman, Diane Keaton is chased out of the restaurant by a guilty and distraught Jack Nicholson. When he finally stops her, he pleads, “I have never lied to you, I have always told you some version of the truth.” She replies, “The truth doesn’t have versions, okay?”

There is a mighty truth in that movie that is missed by many of us. “The Truth Doesn’t Have Versions”. It just doesn’t. If you tell yourself it does that’s another lie on you. So the next time you want to fling rocks at some lying politician or some lying media talking head, think about all the times you put yourself on their side of the truth. Yuck!

We believe the lies and parrot them because we don’t want to accept the truth. Or because the truth won’t get us where we want to go.

One man that I admire for his honesty is actually, to my amazement, a Democrat. Sheriff David Clarke tells the truth. He doesn’t choose to only tell the truth about Republicans or Democrats he just flat out tells the truth. What he is now telling the truth about is very important at this time in our history.

Sheriff David Clarke: Black ‘Lies’ Matter

“Black Lives Matter, which I have renamed ‘Black Lies’ L-I-E-S Matter, it’s nothing more than an astroturf operation, it’s just the latest shallow disguised, confederation if you will, of community organizers and leftists that specialize in fostering disorganization and rebellion in ghettos and other struggling areas throughout the United States of America.”

Those words may not make Sheriff David Clarke popular in the portion of the AA community that revels in being victims. But I suspect David Clarke has no trouble looking at himself in the mirror when he shaves.

Media, which was supposed to be the watch dogs for the public have become the lap dogs of the left. It’s not due to being lazy or cowards it’s because they believe in the same agenda.

Somewhere along the way they quit worrying about the truth or the news and work only to promote a liberal agenda. It sounds so conspiratorial doesn’t it? Yet unless your eyes and ears are lying to you it is obvious. You can seek and find a dozen or more examples daily if you want to go to the trouble to find them.

Look around today as you go to various “news” blogs and see how many lies you can spot. How many might you  give a pass, just this once, because the liar is on our side. Then ask yourself if your conscience has been silenced by your tribal loyalty. Are you willing to be seduced if it is for the right cause.  We must not become what we loathe. They may not have a conscience – we do.

I don’t want to be like the dirt ball in the image above. I don’t want to be a little the rest of the liars in media that I loathe. They have, without intending to do so, made a more honest woman of me because of my bone deep aversion to being like them. Isn’t that ironic?

Can you trust the FBI now?

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Absolutely not! The left has tainted both the DOJ and the FBI beyond redemption. Other departments are equally corrupt.

Obama is earning his legacy, as the worst President in History!

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

This is simply inexcusable. Inexcusable. You are right – the Dems have DESTROYED any credibility the DOJ might have…

So, yeah – she needs to step down, and I say that as much as I hate Trump. It was wholly inappropriate.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Trump was right. I loathe the man but if I don’t tell the truth, that he was right in this instance, then I’m as bad as he is and as bad as a Trumpanzee. I will not allow my loathing for them to make me like them. That’s an ongoing argument I’ve been having elsewhere.

Everyone that thinks Donald Trump came up with this list please raise your hand. No, me neither. Except the list seems to be littered with Trump family members. I will check the times and watch and listen to Ted Cruz, Sheriff David Clarke and maybe Joni Ernst. Other than that – not interested.

If someone has another name worth listening to that I’ve missed let me know. Many of the names are unfamiliar to me. Others were once people I respected but respect no more. Mary Fallon tops that list.

    • amarissa Says:

As of now, I think I will not be watching this boring list of people. By supporting DT they have ALL lost my respect. I might watch the first day when delegates speak their minds just to see if the miracle of voting down Trump takes place. They should all be ashamed of supporting the coronation of the worst candidate ever! Being part of this reality show means they are ignoring and therefore supporting his hateful, racist and misogynist actions and his many, many lies and frauds. I hope this family of idiots does not even get near our White House!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I tend to disagree. By not going, by not speaking they are in effect giving the party to Donald Trump. This is the Republican Convention not the Trump convention.

I will listen to the people I respect and I may not respect them afterwards. If Ted Cruz endorses Trump then I will rethink what I think of him.

Only the full throated Trumpanzees, those who have been on board the Trump crazy train from the beginning do I loathe.

Some will support him just because of the evil that is Hillary Clinton. That’s their right and I respect that. I can’t do it but I respect those who have finally and painfully come to that position.

I believe some will, speak of Republican values and what is important. If they don’t go they have absolutely no input whatsoever.

Trump doesn’t’ own the Republican Party. He’s destroying it but he doesn’t own it and the more people run from the party the tighter the grip he has on the party. And the less opposition there is to the liberals.

    Where’s Sarah?

Noticeably missing on Donald Trump’s eclectic collection of convention speakers is one of his earliest supporters and darling of grassroots conservatives, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

    • amarissa Says:

Maybe she will be the VP pick? lol!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Possible I suppose but then she should certainly be on the list.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Should have been, but seems she and Christie sold their souls for nothing – at least not that coveted spot…

        • amarissa Says:

just read on Washington Examiner that Trump said she is not coming because she lives too far… What a lame excuse! She travels all the time!

          • kenoshamarge Says:

Lame doesn’t begin to cover it.

Unless she’s moved she doesn’t live any further away than she did when she endorsed him or when she made a speech for him in Wisconsin.

A very strange and incoherent speech I might add.

      Who’s the Democrat Senator Helen?

I don’t go to the Daily Caller because every time I do my computer locks up. It annoys me because there are often posts I would like to read. It just doesn’t seem worth the effort of fighting with my computer for 10 to 15 minutes. Technology is great – except when it ain’t.

Never mind Helen I just read somewhere else that the idiot Dem is Claire McCaskill. I am not surprised. She’s a menace to the country and had Todd Akin had the good sense to keep his big mouth shut we wouldn’t be burdened with her inanity and insanity. Not that he would have been much better, just different.

    REPORTS: Trump-Pence Ticket it is!

Though the official announcement is not scheduled until tomorrow morning, Roll Call reports Donald Trump has selected Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his running mate.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yeah, that’s what he said, but hey – Trump lies. Here’s The Hill on the pick: http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/287737-trump-picks-pence-as-vp

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

This paragraph stood out to me from your ink, Marge: In addition to testing the men’s chemistry together, Trump was reportedly impressed with Pence’s calm demeanor, his experience on Capitol Hill and as a governor, and Pence’s potential to assist Trump in governing, should the ticket win in November.

I guess Trump meant it when he said he wanted a VP to basically do the work while he gets to, I dunno, play President?

WHY, even with the Dems voting for him in droves, the presumptive nominee?? Seriously, everything he has said and done should have tanked him at every turn. All I can figure is that Republicans have lost their minds, and they had no intention of finding a real candidate to repair the damage Obama did. Otherwise, they would have picked a serious candidate.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Now they are saying it isn’t Pence. This part of the Trump campaign is as incompetent and disorganized as everything else has been.

Yeah, let’s put this bunch in the White House to make Obama look adequate.

          • kenoshamarge Says:

Now they’re saying it is. I’m getting dizzy just reading about it. What a ridiculous bit of nonsense. If Trump thinks this is getting him more of that “free” media he likes so much he doesn’t understand that the media, and darn near everyone else, is laughing at him. He cannot seem to understand that you don’t run a campaign for POTUS like a reality show.

Even many of those that once found him entertaining are no longer amused.

  13. piper Says:

From what I have heard from my Indiana friends is that Pence is tanking in the polls because of his views, statements and policies so he might think that he has a better chance of winning a national office with Drumpf than being reelected governor. Wonder how long before the media start leaking the ‘scrum’ about his wife which if we all remember was the reason he gave for not running in the last presidential race. She apparently ran away to Hollywood and lived a separate life from her family.

  14. amarissa Says:

Here are some very strong words…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I too think Trump is a danger.

Hillary is a danger to Democracy.

Trump is a danger to the country and the world because he’s a megalomaniac without a modicum of self-control.

As Steve Deace said on his radio show, “will we wake up one morning in a Trump Administration to find ourselves at war with North Korea because the tweeted something Trump didn’t like?”

  15. helenk3 Says:

truck plows into a crowd in Nice France. dozens killed. Government official says it is an attack on Bastille Day

  16. helenk3 Says:

now saying in Nice , hostages taken in a restaurant near place where truck rammed into crowd

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Is there any leader in any country that knows how to deal with this? Because being understanding doesn’t seem to be working very well.

  17. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

But of course Trump’s pick potentially helps the Democrats. Trump IS a Democrat and is doing everything he can to obliterate the RNC. Unfortunately, the RNC is all too willing to comply (h/t Facebook friend): https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/07/14/donald-trump-just-left-the-indiana-gop-in-limbo/

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Isn’t it amazing how the GOP establishment and leadership are willing to allow the whole party to be destroyed in order to hang onto their power? And nominating Trump will destroy it.

They see a short term gain for themselves and think nothing about the long term. They are allowing whatever “brand” the Republicans had to be destroyed forever.

They have alienated many of the most respected voices in their party. Most will never return. Some believe the party must be torn down and rebuilt and other believe it just needs to be abandoned and a new one built.

Whatever happens, the old two party system will never be the same.

Makes you wonder if there aren’t some Democrats that think their party needs to be rebuilt too and if so why are they silent?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

One does have to wonder, Marge. I imagine they are bludgeoned into silence like Reps are.

Btw, David Harsanyi is NO fan of Mike Pence’s: http://thefederalist.com/2016/07/14/mike-pence-is-a-fraud

Neither is the author of this Federalist piece: http://thefederalist.com/2016/07/14/mike-pence-makes-a-good-match-for-trump

The latter of which begins: Pence is a perfect political partner for Donald Trump. Like Trump, Pence is a political has-been who betrayed people who trusted him. Once a rising conservative star who himself considered, and was well-positioned to earn, a run for the presidency, as governor Pence traded his integrity for mere hopes of short-term political gain. All he got was angry constituents, a 23-point drop in his public approval rating, and a 2016 gubernatorial re-election bid he’ll be lucky to win even though nobody knows his opponent.

A veep nod would parachute Pence out of facing the wrath of voters he’s screwed. Good for him. Not so good for the country or Trump’s electoral chances.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I like and respect David Harsanyi. Therefore I respect his opinion of Pence especially as it is the same as mine. 😉

I fail to see what Pence adds to Trump. He isn’t well regarded among the Conservatives that Trump needs to bring back into the fold. It was all around pointless as far as I can see. And no one that loathes Trump is going to change their mind because of Pence.

  18. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Another great column by Jonah Goldberg. And he is right – with Clinton and Trump, what you see is what you get: http://www.unionleader.com/article/20160715/OPINION02/160719522/-1/NEWS

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Jonah never disappoints. How sad that the Republican Party in its insanity in nominating Trump is losing so many of it’s greatest voices. And they are men and women of integrity so they will not be coming back if Trump triumphs.
