The Donald Trump Convention got off to a chaotic start yesterday. Many people that hadn’t been paying much attention got a first hand look at the sausage making of a national political party. And as everyone always warns, it wasn’t a pretty sight.
Threats, accusations, disappearing RNC Chairs – you name it the ongoing Reality Circus that is the Donald Trump Show had it all.
From Melania Trump’s plagiarized and almost undecipherable speech to the triumphant entrance of felon Don King it was show time in Cleveland.
Then there were the shenanigans: David Harsanyi has a great article about the corruption of Reince Priebus and the rest of the Trump Republican Party. The Party Of Trump Shuts Down Dissent
It’s not that we didn’t know there was corruption, it’s that we just didn’t expect it to be so in your face in Cleveland.
Evidently the arm twisting and the threats in an attempt to shut down dissent was monumental. I expect that if Donald Trump does not win in November it will be difficult, if not impossible for Priebus to keep his job. He’s making more enemies than friends and the friends he’s making are not principled or people of integrity so when things go wrong, as they unusually do he can expect to get tossed under the bus like last years news. Deservedly so.
And for the rest of the Trump thugs, this is not the way to unify the party. They are making their opposition angrier and making new enemies as they try to bully their way to success. That’s the Donald Trump way and the RNC seems quite willing to come out of the shadows and join in.
The reports of bad behavior abound. Paula Bolyard has some great video’s up at PJ Media:
The sadness of rejection:
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I like that a sycophant got his nose rubbed in his sycophancy. Christie has gone from being perceived as some kind of tough guy to Donald Trump’s errand boy. He deserves it but it’s almost painful to watch.
There is of course the botched perception of unity:
You have to wonder if Trump really cares if he unifies the party or not. Because nothing he does seems to suggest that. Perhaps it’s just that once you show that you will not bow down to Trump you are on his enemies list and he won’t, or can’t tolerate dissent. If you think Obama is thin-skinned and intolerant of his “enemies” just wait until there is, please God never, a President Trump.
In the meantime we have little rich daughter, she of the beauty that made her father suggest he would “date” her if she wasn’t his kid. Aside from the fact that a man of his age talking about “dating” like some adolescent being more than a little nauseating he now seems to listen only to her advice.
She lectures Republicans about not being willing to see the future. She who is so attuned to the Republican Party that she forgot to change her status from Democrat to Republican during the primary and thus couldn’t vote for her own father. Yeah tell us how it is Ivanka.
Speaking only for myself if Trump is that future, no thanks.
Filed under things you couldn’t make up if you tried:
One positive from last night was Sheriff David Clarke.
Sheriff Clarke’s message will be welcomed by Conservatives and the grassroots that so loathe Trump. I believe that he will do Trump some good at a time when the Trump campaign is floundering.
A message of support for law enforcement, a message of “Keeping America Safe Again” will resonate with a lot of people. People who loathe Obama and see him as a part of the problem not part of the solution.
Whether Sheriff Clarke’s voice, and him a Democrat at that, can overcome the negative images of the rest of the evening is something only time will tell.
Today is a new day and perhaps the GOP can pull itself together somewhat. As the day wears on and as the reports come out I suspect the chaos will grow quieter. Outrage and anger at this level cannot be sustained for long. And I suspect even those outraged and angry will not want to continue to be fodder for the Dems. And in that respect a unity of sorts may be achieved.
One thing is for sure, if the President Obama was called “No Drama Obama” by the media you can be sure that even they can tell the truth when they report all the “Drama” of the Trump Convention. Disgusting, corrupt but dramatic.
