We The Poorly Governed *Open Thread*

John Adams if you could see what’s happened to that government in 200 years you would weep.

Franklin said we had a Republic if we could keep it. I have my doubts that we can. Many of our rights have all ready been taken away. Our government cares little about the common good.

Our leaders mostly talk and promise. To call most of them leaders is an offense to the meaning of the word. Most not only don’t lead it is doubtful that they even have any idea how to lead. They are incompetent, immoral and dishonest. Where then would such leaders lead us?

Did you know that the median net worth of a member of Congress was $1.03 million in 2013, compared with $56,355 for the average American household? Did you know that over all, at least 268 of the 534 current members of Congress had an average net worth of $1 million or more in 2012, which is the year covered by the reports that each lawmaker had to file in 2013.

How on earth can these people even pretend to understand the struggle of the ordinary citizen?

Now some damn fools seem to think that if they elect someone rich enough as President he’ll look out for the little people. That’s stupid on a level I can’t even begin to understand. A man that sits on a gold-plated toilet seat isn’t about to care about the peasants that don’t have a toilet seat to sit on or a window to throw it out. Grow up people – pie in the sky is fantasy.

jzbO6iR.jpgDemocrats pretend to believe that if you give people enough all will be well. But all that money has to come from somewhere and if you take from those who produce and give to those that do not what kind of a society do you have? I think it’s called parasitical. Dems don’t care that they are destroying many of the people of the country that receive this largess so long as those people vote for them.

We know, or we should as realists know, that no one will ever be able to completely solve the problems of the poor. It has never been done and quite honestly I don’t think it ever will be. There are and always have been those who try and struggle and fail through no fault of their own. These people need some help and I doubt most citizens would begrudge them some, temporary, help.

Parasites are always among us too. Those who won’t work and think that somehow the world owes them a living. They deserve, and should receive, nothing.

Politicians find the parasites very useful. Be they home grown parasites or parasites invading from elsewhere a parasite will in time suck the host dry and kill it. Such is where our liberal leaders are leading us. So that they can retain their pathetic power.

What exactly is the plan of the wealthy, elected, people to solve the problem? Because that is what we elect them to do isn’t it, solve problems?

Most seem to believe throwing money at a problem is a solution. If that were the case we would have the best educated people in the world. We certainly spend enough. The U.S. spends almost $11,000 on every K-12 student. Other nations spend less – and get better results.

Unless the people we elected and sent to Washington are illiterate, deaf and blind they know that. So why do they continue to pretend that more spending will fix the problem when Johnny Can’t Read?

We know that some of the problem is that Liberals are feeding money to the teacher’s unions who will in turn send it back to the Democrat Party. Thus they can throw money at education with reckless abandon knowing much of it will end up back in their coffers. Kinda corrupt donchathink?

Every time we elect Republicans they promise to stop this kind of behavior. Only they never do. Promises made and never kept have become SOP for the GOP. Many are as spending crazy as those the say they oppose.

As disgusting as the left and it’s pillaging of the country for power is the self-righteous liars on the Jerry Holbertright as just as repulsive. They pretend to be better. They speak of the Constitution and the Right to Life and yet never do anything about those things. They never do much of anything other than talk against and then vote for more spending.

I can rant on and on and never run out of material to prove that our leaders don’t lead. There is plenty of evidence that they care little about honest governing. Most wouldn’t even know how.

So what’s to do? It might start with an electorate that takes a good long look in the mirror. Because if we are poorly governed it is because we elected the slugs and thugs that never serve us well.

Maybe paying attention, NOT voting by tribe and NOT re-electing 91% of the incumbents would be a place to start. Put the fear of re-election into them. Show them that we have longer memories than they think we have. Show them that the magic R or D isn’t enough to get our vote. That could make a difference. I wish I thought it would happen. I really do.

Wonderful post, Marge. I imagine our Founders are just AGHAST at where we are in this country now. And oh, how unfortunate that we don’t listen to current voices like Thomas Sowell more.

I don’t vote by Tribe any more. The last time I did that was 2004 even though I couldn’t stand John Kerry (and dislike him even more now). That left a bad taste in my mouth but I had bought into that mentality for years. No more…

    Excellent piece. Thank you!

I voted by “tribe” too many times. Not ever going to happen again. And if more people don’t start caring more about their country than their “tribe” there won’t be much of a country left.

The candidates we are supposed to vote for this election are perfect examples of how tribal voting works out in the end. And it’s hard to imagine two worse candidates than Clinton and Trump.

Amazing isn’t it that some young people, 40% of them, would actually be in favor of taking freedom of speech from others if they found that speech “offensive”? Had they been taught to think, or learned on their own how to think things through they might have seen that taking freedom of speech from some will inevitably lead to losing their own right to speak should others find what they say “offensive”.

I remember years ago I had my first real conflict with freedom of speech when some Neo-Nazi’s were allowed to march through Jewish neighborhoods. I was appalled and thought, just for a moment, that they should be stopped. But once the stopping starts, where does it end?

It isn’t easy to always support freedom of speech – it isn’t meant to. It is meant to make sure that what we say is allowed because we allow what they say. That’s the only way it works.

Thanks for this Helen – I missed it.

Truly astonishing to see where our young people are today, and how willing they are to give up rights we hold near and dear, not to mention the lives lost to ensure those rights.

And it says something abt what they are being taught – or not…

Notice that the corrupt media is making a big deal about Trump’s stupidity about the Khan family’s loss but says nothing about Hillary lying to Pat Smith and the other Benghazi family members?

That’s why having a biased media is so terrible – that they would take sides among grieving families of fallen soldiers. It is despicable!

This is what Ryan gets for selling his soul to the devil and endorsing Trump: http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/290183-trump-withholding-support-of-ryan-mccain

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No doubt, Trump’s sycophantic cultists will respond with GLEE at Trump’s “sticking it to Ryan,” because it is A-Okay for HIM to act like that. Just not for anyone else…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Trump seems to spend most his time attacking other Republicans. Seems a funny way to run a campaign.

In spite of some outlier polls Ryan is still massively popular in this district. I don’t think he needs Trump – in fact he will probably be better off without him.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Puts Ryan between a rock and a hard place. The conservatives are outraged by his support of Trump and now Trump turns on him. Lay down with dogs Paul…

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yes indeed. Interesting that he is still doing well. Begs the question why he was willing to endorse a man whom he seems to dislike, doesn’t it? I mean, really – he squandered any credibility he had by so doing…

Hey, Marge – not sure if you have gotten my recent emails, but just in case you HAVEN’T gotten them, PumaForever has a post scheduled for this morning at 10:00 EST. Just FYI!
