To Protect and Serve * Open Thread *

I remember a time more than 1/2 my life time ago when the police found themselves in the cross hairs of some Americans. I remember a time more than 1/2 my life time ago when cities were set on fire, when thugs pretending to protest rioted and destroyed.

Much of what the crazies back then wanted is now part of our culture. Free sex, legal drugs and a society predicated on the position that you don’t’ ever have to grow up – a society predicated on the position that you are not responsible for your own actions. A society predicated on the ability to blame all your woes on someone else.

Our culture is corrupt. Our laws are ignored. Our people don’t care and that’s just a few of the problems. People calling themselves “protesters” march through our streets advocating the murder of policemen and we watch in horror. Is this free speech?

Meanwhile on the campuses of our universities many people are not allow to speak because they have ideas some precious little minds don’t want to hear. The inmates are truly running the asylum.

There is no doubt that there are bad policemen. Because policemen and women are human beings and there are some bad apples in every occupational barrel. We know that the good cops outnumber the bad cops exponentially.

Now that we’ve gotten that obvious fact out of the way let’s talk some common sense. Most of the people on the police force are good and dedicated men and woman. They do an incredibly difficult and dangerous job. We expect them to make split second decisions involving life and death. We expect them to make those decisions faster than we decide what to order at a drive thru.

If they don’t make the right decision in that split decision every single time there are always people on the sidelines to make second guesses. The Monday Morning Quarterbacks who decide what happened. All too often that decision is based on an agenda that starts with the ending they want to write. Facts often just get in the way.

There are always some who seem to have a crystal ball and therefore based on nothing else know what happened. These are the fiction writers posing as “news” people. Many of them pretend to support the police but a quick perusal of what they write says otherwise. They lean, lean heavily towards sympathy for the victim who is often a criminal.

Part of our problem is a public and a media that insists on knowing what happened immediately. Police do things called investigations for a reason – to find out what happened. Before the police department has a chance to gather the facts, interview witnesses and start an investigation the media has often come to a conclusion. Fantasy posing as “news”.

Do some of the Police Departments try to cover up for police officers? I’m sure they do. There has long been a public perception that the police protect their own. For too long some Police Departments have covered up for bad apples in their midst. Other departments, those politically motivated throw an officer under the bus at the first sign of a media event. When the State’s Attorney is Politically motivated it is no wonder the individual officers try to have each other’s back. Baltimore and the infamous Marilyn Mosby show why they feel that need.

The bad apples also put their lives on the line every day. Those bad apples understand the job the way no one on the outside ever could. They may disgust the honest cop but they are a part of that Blue Family we can never understand. The time has come, and should have come long ago, when every police force must police itself. For their own good and for the perception needed that they enforce the law even on their own.

I support and respect the police. I thank God that there is someone I can call and they will respond and help me. A blue line between me and those that would do me harm.

There are some fools, no idiot is a better word who think it would be a good idea to disarm the police.

Jill Stein, Green Party candidate for president on Exploring ‘What it Means to Disarm Our Police Force’

It’s still a free country so Jill Stein has a perfect right to call for anything she wants. We can all sleep better at night knowing this pinhead will never be president. It says something about the Green Party  that they nominated this lunatic.

On the other hand the Libertarians nominated Gary Johnson who seems stuck on smoking pot and forcing bakers to bake wedding cakes for Gay Weddings. Does he even know there is trouble with police being targeted?

The two major candidates from the major parties should both be the targets of police investigations themselves.  We know people like them seldom pay for their crimes like the rest of us. Woe to the honest cop that went after either of them.

What is very different from back in the time I remember such civil unrest is that back then the leaders of the country didn’t take the side of the thugs. That is a new wrinkle on an old problem.

Back then POTUS tried to end racial unrest – now POTUS fans the flames. That’s a fact of life in Obama’s reign of terror, error and corruption.

The police have to try to exist and do their job in this new reality. I respect and admire them. I certainly do not envy them that task.

when I was working I dealt with police in all different parts of the country. 99.9 percent were good and helped me deal with situations. I have nothing but respect for the police. As you say there are always some that should not be in that job but they are few and far between. Police most of the time see people at their worst not their best. They deal with it everyday. I give them a lot of credit

The Clintons are corrupt and that is well documented. But I think that so is most of the rest of the government.

Hillary Gives an Answer That Breaks the Dials During Frank Luntz Focus Group

The reaction from regular American voters turned so negative after they viewed a clip of Hillary Clinton arguing that she has “tried” to “level with the American people.”

People seem to have forgotten this fact.

I have believed this since at least 2008

How can you accept a legitimate election when the media chooses our candidates for us?

How can you have a legitimate election when the media then puts it’s thumb on the scale and either praises or denigrates those they have “chosen.”

Election machines have been shown to “flip” the vote for one candidate or another. We’re told that is an anomaly and happens too seldom to matter.

Really? How about sections of the country where Obama garnered 125% of the vote?

There are many things wrong with our elections. But the PTB in politics and media don’t want that to change. So it won’t.

Thanks so much for sharing this Helen. I admit to tears in my eyes.

This is who we are as a nation and as a people if the race-baiters of all colors leave us alone.

The biggest race-baiter of all, the fool in the White House could have made himself one of the greatest presidents of all time if he would have used his time in office to bring us together as a people. Instead he chose to widen the separation. Some people, black and white won’t allow him to make them haters. And in the long run, they will win and he will lose.

We do not have anyone running in this election that could handle these supposes .

    • kenoshamarge Says:

We don’t have anyone running that could handle a fight between two twelve year olds on the school grounds.

Sowell is always worth reading. You always learn something when you read what he writes.

And to answer his question ” Do facts matter anymore?” No, I don’t think so.

today’s law enforcement face two enemies. the criminals and the government that insites and praises criminality. The government today makes more excuses for bad behavior then I ever remember.

Good afternoon – I’ve been saying for a while that Trump is nothing more than a con artist skimming money from everyone. Yesterday, had a discussion with a few republican friends about the cost of Donnie’s flying home every night (has to sleep in own bed in his home like there is no regal bed on his plane) – gas, pilots, carbon footprint and who’s picking up the tab for such. Our talk just added to their dislike of the man giving them another reason for only voting down ticket.

  12. piper Says:

Melania Trump getting into the suing business, obviously upset that certain newspapers (Daily Mail, etc.) have written about her time in the escort business. I could care less about her background which I presume Donnie made up to impress others but if lies about them bother them why then is it okay for them to flaunt lies about others like the Cruzes.

    • piper Says:

BTW – don’t care for lies from either side, candidates, pundits and media.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Melania’s lawsuit only keeps her past in the news. Better to be quiet and it will fade as stupid Donald says something that attracts the media’s attention.

The lies from both camps are endless. I wouldn’t believe anything either one of them said with out verification from at least 8 or 9 sources.

Drumpf is probably making money off of his campaign which he loves but I wonder how the narcissistic ego will like being called “Loser.’

    • kenoshamarge Says:

That’s the main reason I’ve never thought he was deliberately “throwing” the election to Hillary.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for this post honoring those who put their lives on the line for us every single day. And you are right – even the bad seeds still show up every day and put themselves in harm’s way.

The vast majority of us have no idea what courage that takes, especially in this climate…
