The Lessor of Two Evils 🌟 Open Thread 🌟

Over and over again we hear that we will be forced to vote for the “lesser of two evils.” No we won’t. We can refuse to vote for either of the two evil choices the major political parties have given us.

We can refuse to vote for the joke of a candidate the Libertarians have served up. How anyone can even contemplate voting for the Green Party and Crazy Jill Stein appalls me as much as the idea of Clinton or Trump. Evil is evil and to pretend otherwise is just kidding yourself!

I am in complete agreement with an article written by Peter Ditzel over 8 years ago:

In George Orwell’s 1984, a novel about a brainwashed populace controlled by a totalitarian government, there is a term called “blackwhite.” It was the ability to accept whatever “truth” the ruling party put out. Orwell described it as, “loyal willingness to say black is white when party discipline demands this. It also means the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know black is white, and forget that one has ever believed the contrary.” Today, we are being asked to believe that evil is good.

One of the most often-repeated, “patriotic” statements that I hear lately is that we will just have to vote for the lesser of two evils. Sorry. Something must have gone wrong with my brainwashing. I just can’t get myself to believe that it is good to vote for evil. The last I heard, the lesser of two evils is still evil, and the Bible says, “Now I pray to God that ye do no evil.”

Using the last vestiges of whatever brain tissue the public education system has left me, I believe I can still think clearly enough to realize that if I vote for something evil, I am trying to promote evil and am guilty of committing evil myself.

You wonder then how so many Christians can say they will vote for Donald Trump. He is a very bad man. Immoral, indecent, crude, rude, dishonest, untrustworthy and corrupt. He is the very personification of an evil man. What can these deluded people see that can not only bring themselves to vote for him but for some of them to have become a member of the Trump Cult?

That’s not to say they are the only cult members around. There are plenty of Cruz Cultists too. Just say anything that is the least negative about him and they come unhinged. Suddenly you are the enemy and were a secret Trump or Hillary supporter all along. Cognitive ability is gone when worship comes in.

I have never understood how anyone can venerate a politician. Even the best of them are never to be taken at their word or to be completely trusted. Watch what they do and if what they say matches then they may or may not be worthy of your vote. If not, pass them by.

There is no law that says you have to vote for bad or evil people. Write in or just leave the top blank. And make up your own mind – do not let the media or a party or a personality or a pundit or a candidate tell you how to vote.

You may make a mistake. You may trust someone that isn’t worthy of that trust. But make it your own decision based on your own observations. And never, ever under any circumstances vote for the lesser of two evils. Voting that way is what got us to a time and place when evil is the only choice since neither choice is the lesser.

The lesser of two evils Delusion = Modern excuses to rationalize & vote for evil people.

Conservative, n: A statesman who is enamored of existing evils, as distinguished from the Liberal who wishes to replace them with others. ~ Ambrose Bierce

I am not now and never have been a fan of Roseanne Barr. I would be less than honest if I didn’t give the “devil” her due so I admit I agree with what she said in the words below:

“The American people are sick and tired of this ‘lesser evil’ garbage they get fed every election year. Both the Democrats and the Republicans do the same evils once they’re in office. ” ~ Roseanne Barr

Unless you are willfully blind you know that the people we elect and send off to Washington D.C. do not keep the promises they make. Most of the time they know when they make them that they will not or that they cannot. Yet when they come up for re-election the voters of their state or district will usually return them to office. They may be liars, cheats and thieves but the people that keep electing them are fools.

The government today is the direct result of people choosing the lesser of two evils for generations. Don’t bewail the evil of those in office if you voted them there. Once is a mistake and you can rectify that by admitting they scammed you and refusing to ever vote for their sorry butt again. Twice is foolish. After that it is you are choosing evil and you are responsible.

I read today the one of the writers that I admire most, Thomas Sowell, is choosing to vote “against” Hillary Clinton by voting “for” Donald Trump.

Thomas Sowell, the legendary conservative economist and Hoover Institution fellow, announced on this morning’s Ben Shapiro Show that “even though Donald Trump has no coherent vision that looks that promising,” he will “vote against Hillary Clinton” in November.

Sowell has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump throughout and beyond the GOP primaries, and his decision centers around the enduring legacy of the next president’s Supreme Court appointments, which he believes have the potential to subvert constitutional law and undermine specifically the First and Second Amendments.

I feel nauseous that someone I have respected and admired for so long has decided to do this. He has the right to do what he perceives as best. I still respect Dr. Sowell, just not quite as much. And I am sad.

until enough people learn to vote other than the democratic party or the republican party, they have no reason to change, they can serve the American people shit and call it chicken and people will take it. There is a man Evan Mc Mullin who is running that most people have never heard about. He is running as an independent and is not on all the state ballots. Maybe if enough people wrote in his name it would get the the attention of the two major parties. He might not win but it could cause a great awakening. You do not have to vote for less than

McMullen isn’t on the ballot here in Wisconsin and we can’t write in. I am therefore going to vote for Darrell Castle who is on the ballot. He hasn’t a chance but he seems to be a decent and honest and sane man.

At this point in time that puts him head and shoulders above all the others except McMullen.

    • piper Says:

Sad to hear that we can’t vote for McMullen here as he seems / sounds like someone who could govern unlike either Hillary or Donald. Have finally seen 2 huge yard signs for Don and Pence, one on Highway 32 in Racine County and one on 27th Street in Milwaukee. Surprisingly the 2 Johnson yard signs also large are no where close to the Trump signs.

OMG – agree with Roseanne Barr’s statement but am disappointed with Sowell’s vote. However life continues.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Kind of makes my head spin that on the same day I agree with Roseanne Barr and disagree with Thomas Sowell.

        As you say, life continues.

Wish McMullen would have started sooner so he could have got on the ballot in more states. But it is what it is. So Castle remains my choice.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

We can’t vote for McMullen, either. He waited too long to get into the race to get on the ballot in a lot of states, and SC does not permit write-ins for President. So yeah – for the first time in my life, I am thinking of not voting for anyone. I had thought Johnson as a protest vote a while back, but he continues to demonstrate he has smoked WAAAAYYYYY too much pot, and it shows…

Fox’s Kelly Gets Into It With Trump Supporter Over Objectifying Women

Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly laid into the Trump campaign for its handling of criticism of the GOP nominee’s fat-shaming of former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, asking “Why don’t they just shut up” about how big women are “supposed to be.”

In a Thursday night segment of “The Kelly File,” Kelly – who first confronted Donald Trump about his harsh language about women during the first GOP primary candidates’ debate – grilled former Navy SEAL veteran and Trump supporter Carl Higbie about the latest flap involving Machado.

Sigh. If only this wasn’t so true. The Johnson one, too (and I had written my comment before even seeing this – it was spot on)…

Non-Citizen Washington Mall Shooter Voted 3 Times in America. But There’s No Voter Fraud!

It turns out the 20-year-old man who murdered five people in cold blood at a mall in Washington state last week is not a United States citizen, despite early speculation that he had obtained citizenship. Originally from Turkey, Arcan Cetin is currently a permanent resident or green card holder; he immigrated to America as a child.

But according to an investigation by local Seattle news station KING 5, Cetin was still able to vote all these years. In fact, he illegally exercised this right conferred strictly to citizens multiple times.

Isn’t that infuriating?? It makes me NUTS that our system has become so corrupted. It cheapens the entire process – as if the current candidates don’t do that enough on their own…

Jonah Goldberg: From Congress To Obama, A Dis Best Served Cold

“Congress’ overwhelming rebuke of President Barack Obama on a bill allowing 9/11 victims to sue the government of Saudi Arabia — and the bitter finger-pointing that followed — was a fitting coda to the dysfunctional relationship between the Obama White House and Capitol Hill.”

But it was the headline — which she probably did not write — that really completed the picture: “Congress disses Obama one last time.”

That word, “disses,” is just too perfect. For eight years the press has treated Obama like the protagonist in some stage play, personalizing his policy struggles as a heroic effort of one noble man fighting an army of partisans, racists and plutocrats. Even the word “dis” — with its hip, slightly edgy connotation — taps into the Cult of Obama, which sees any setback for the president as a personal, often illegitimate affront to his dignity.

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, what a great post. I, too, am saddened to hear that Sowell is going with the “lesser of two evils” argument. Evil is evil, and if someone really believes that abt a candidate, why in the world giev them your vote??

Isn’t there something abt if neither candidate reaches the threshold the House steps in or something? Isn’t THAT for what we should be shooting considering the two main candidates from which we are supposed to choose? I mean, really – IMO, neither one of them deserves my vote.

And this whole Supreme Court thing as a justification rings hollow to me. When Trump has said he would like to have his partial birth abortion supporting sister on the Supreme Court, did that not raise some eyebrows among these folks? And not for nothing, but the Senate has to approve candidates anyway.

Trump continues to display a lack of discipline in any area – why would he when it comes to a lifetime app’t position????

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I don’t understand why anyone thinks Trump would keep his word. And considering the “quality” of “Republican” Justices, John Roberts? what makes anyone think that once on the court they could be dependable constitutional justices?

Meanwhile Obama, with the help of the GOP has been packing the lower Federal Courts with judges of his choice and so anything that doesn’t make it to SCOTUS is in their “liberal” courts.

This is just infuriating. Remember the man in Charlotte who was beaten in the garage and stripped of his clothes? Turns out he was a veteran: http://charpolice.me/0771009f8004

Just infuriating. This man served his country for SEVEN years. What the hell have those thugs ever done for this country or even their own community?! GRRR.
