Touching “Rescues And Recovers” *Weekend Open Thread*

After a week of the first debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, and the relentless, non-stop coverage of the responses from the two candidates, all I can say is: I have a headache.

Seriously. I have had one all week long. All I can figure is that it is a natural response to the on-going reactions to the inane, loony, whackadoodle, fact-challenged statements from both candidates during the debate.

But it doesn’t stop there, of course. Besides the revelations about Trump and his business dealings, along with an incredibly disturbing story of a rape of a minor charge against Trump, among other stories like Trump wanting to fire women at one of his places for being “unattractive,”you can see why I have a headache. That Trump is seen as a legitimate challenger for the highest office in the land, and the most powerful in the world, considering this and so many other issues, is beyond mind boggling.

Then there is Hillary Clinton. While the sex charges apply more to her husband, a fact Trump is all too ready (or his son)to cynically and hypocritically point out given HIS history, Clinton has her own problems.  Boy, and how…

So, yeah – in order to keep my head from exploding, I turn to things like animals, my own as well as wonderful videos about animals, and other “feel good” stories to help keep some equilibrium during these trying times. And “trying times” these most definitely are. Let’s just say, these videos help “rescue” me from the angst of the current state of affairs in our country.

In that vein, here is an adorable video via The Right Scoop of a koala mom rescuing her baby (who wasn’t in danger, so no worries there):

How cute was that? No doubt the baby could have made it, but everyone needs some help now and then, am I right?

A friend had this up at Facebook, and it is just too precious. In this case, a very sweet boy brings his girl a gift, and some kisses, too:

Isn’t that just the sweetest? Made me smile and forget some of the current insanity.

DSC_0053But wait, there’s more. This past Thursday was our dog’s 4 th birthday. DJ is part German Shepherd, and as you can see, a very handsome boy.  Naturally, I mentioned on Facebook that it was his big day.

Our dear Helen then shared with me an amazing story that features a German Shepherd, and I just had to share it with y’all. It moved me to tears.

This story  comes courtesy of It is a story of a true “rescue and recovery, ” on the part of both human and canine. I am just giving you some fair warning that you will want to get some Kleenex first. Just trust me on that one.

Okay. Ready? Here is the story of Danny and Saki, the rescue/recovery dog-in-training:

Right? RIGHT?? What a wonderful story of the healing an animal can bring to a child on a host of levels, and the healing she gets in return. But that she sought this boy out and KNEW he needed a “rescue” to “recover” and be more fully himself is just incredible.

Animals. Amazing, aren’t they?

This was such a beautiful story of rescue and recovery, and it sure helped with my headache. At least for the moment, that is!

One last thing, the Jewish New Yeah, Rosh Hashanah, begins at sundown on Sunday. It is a time for reflection on the year past. It is a time for “Starting Over,” as this video highlights:

Not a bad way to go into a New Year, seems to me. A Happy Rosh Hashanah to my Jewish friends and family!

So that’s it for me. How about y’all? What do you do to give yourself a break from the lunacy that has become the 2016 Election? Gardening (Marge)? Music? Other animal videos? Feel free to share those, and whatever else is on your minds. This is the Weekend Open Thread.

Thank you for the wonderful animal stories / videos. Sometimes we have to take a step back and clear our brains from this abdominal campaign season.

    • piper Says:

too funny – that should be abominable not tummy related ‘abdominal’

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks so much, piper! Though these days, I think either one is appropriate since this election season is making me sick! 🙂

      Thank heavens for animals, huh?

  2. kenoshamarge Says:

Thank you. I was heartsick and depressed. Now after seeing Momma Koala, loving horse and Danny and Saki I feel so much better. Sometimes it’s difficult to see the good in life when there is so very much bad. Maybe we don’t search hard enough. Thanks you again.

Today is October 1st and I begin decorating for Halloween. So it’s chilly and dreary and I don’t care. I see Good People and good things and lots of pumpkins.

Besides, fall is my favorite time of the year. The colors, the lower temperatures and the fruits of the harvest.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am so glad you liked them all, Marge! These animals are just so precious, and really do help to remind us that there is beauty in the world as a balm to our souls. Thank heavens for that indeed…

I like Fall, too. We had our first Fall day today – it was actually a little cooler this morning (for us).

Will share this unbelievable excuse from a despicable person why his debate performance was less than perfect. Audio issues not lack of knowledge or preparation or thinking that bullying was the way to attack. From CNN

“Looking ahead to the next debate, Trump said he’s going to start preparing as early as this weekend. But he does not think that he needs to prepare more rigorously, blaming audio issues Monday with distracting him.
He “spent 50 percent of my thought process” dealing with it, Trump said.
And he backed away from his proclamation Monday that he would “absolutely” support Clinton if she won the election in November,
“We’re going to have to see,” Trump said. “We’re going to see what happens. We’re going to have to see.”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, for pete’s sake. Always an excuse, always someone else’s fault, always whining. Good grief, man up already!

    Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Feel-Good Friday: When Anthem Fails to Play at High School Volleyball Game, Players Belt it Out

Amid a national climate in which certain multi-millionaire professional athletes refuse to stand for the Star Spangled Banner (a disrespectful act partially defended by our president), and others choose to sit out team trips to West Point, here’s a patriotic pick-me-up on a Friday evening. Via Rusty Weiss, after the national anthem malfunctioned before a high school volleyball match in New York State, the team joined hands and sang the song themselves.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I LOVE this. Thank you for this, Marge. Again, it affirms faith in our young people. After just seeing an article yesterday abt a high school football team in Louisiana taking a knee, this is refreshing.

And how sad a commentary is THAT?? That we have to be thankful for young people who support the National Anthem? Wow…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I think, maybe it’s more a hope, that there are more young people like these than the others. They just don’t make the news. And many of the other’s IMO only do it to make the news.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, I surely hope you are right, Marge. I imagine you are right that many of these people are doing it for the publicity, but sadly, these young kids are emulating the adults in this regard.

And they are emulating a man who is an idiot, who is spewing propaganda, and they are not old enough to understand all of the issues involved. They hear,, “police can shot black men and still get paid,” not knowing that police officers are put on Admin. leave while the shooting is investigated, and black men are NOT getting killed in higher numbers than anyone else. They don’t know that. They just know their idols are saying this is the case, and are buying into this BS.

Anyway – nice to see some young people who aren’t ashamed to sing the National Anthem.

That is the size of it, isn’t it? Who would have thought this is where we would be? Sheesh…

Candidate Evan McMullin Makes First National Poll Appearance

While his candidacy has begun to appear in polling in states like his home state of Utah, where he recently polled at a significant 12 percent, pollsters have avoided adding the candidate to polling questions, leaving many to wonder if the candidate is gaining traction nationally.

That has now changed and Evan McMullin has made his debut in national polls, according to the latest one conducted by PPP (Public Policy Polling) and has already passed one candidate, while getting within shouting distance of another.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Really wish he had come into the game sooner. But hey – maybe he, the Libertarians, and the Green Woman will siphon off enough votes that NO ONE meets the Electoral College threshold. It’s my last hope for some kind of sanity to be restored…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

He at least siphons votes from Trump. Stein and Pothead seem to siphon them from Hillary. Crook or crazy? Some choice!

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I just cannot believe this man is the GOP nominee, or that any woman wold support this man who is so nasty toward women. It just boggles the mind:

  10. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

This a great story a friend had up at Facebook. What a great work ethic this young man demonstrates, and toward a worthy goal – he wants to go into law enforcement. Here is his story and the police officer who took an interest in him:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Work ethic isn’t dead but it does seem to be on life support. Bless the cop that helped someone who still had that ethic.

  11. kenoshamarge Says:

Nothing would get me to vote for Trump nothing. But the thought that both Streisand and Whoopi just might leave the country does provide a temptation.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

      LOL, good point!

Yeah, a friend of mine, someone who is dear to me and who worked with Hillary in 2008 is now trying to get me on the Trump train. I told him that NO ONE had earned my vote this year, and that I will not be voting for Trump. His treatment of women, among many other issues alone preclude that, but his continued juvenile behavior, including childish moves like the one linked below, continue to reinforce that decision:

I don’t care for Clinton, but things like that are just crass.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I won’t vote for either of them. I couldn’t in good conscience do so. But a 70 year old man continuing to behave like an adolescent, and a poorly raised adolescent at that, is just disgusting. He probably likes fart jokes too.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You said it, Marge. That is exactly how he acts. It is just ridiculous. Such a tiresome child.

  12. kenoshamarge Says:

Steve Chapman: Donald Trump’s Fat Fetish

It’s bad enough for a trim politician to mock the overweight, but this line of attack is even riskier for a candidate of corpulence. Donald Trump, who weighs 236 pounds and claims to be 6’3″, qualifies as overweight, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

His condition does not make him sympathetic to others with the same problem. Trump has a long record, which he lengthens every day, of disparaging people for what he regards as excess pounds.

One of those is the 1996 winner of the Trump-owned Miss Universe pageant, Alicia Machado, who dissatisfied him by gaining weight during her reign. It’s not unreasonable to say that beauty pageant winners should adhere to the unrealistic standards of beauty pageants. But that’s no excuse for publicly embarrassing her, as Trump did, lamenting, “This is somebody who likes to eat.”

Hillary Clinton brought up his treatment of Machado in their debate, and Trump went into a self-destructive mania, fulminating against Machado day after day, including a flurry of tweets early Friday morning that claimed she had made a sex tape.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No kidding, huh? Nothing he says ever seems to apply to himself. And his astonishing superficiality alone should have been a massive red flag to people. It has gotten worse, not better…

  13. kenoshamarge Says:

YUGE! Someone at Trump Towers sent the New York Times his taxes…

Apparently he claimed nearly one BILLION in losses one year, and that would have let him pay no taxes for 18 years. Of course he’s going to say not paying anything is just smart. Now think about all the taxes YOU paid over 18 years.

The three documents arrived by mail at The Times with a postmark indicating they had been sent from New York City. The return address claimed the envelope had been sent from Trump Tower.

Oh-oh, Trump is gonna have a Trumpertanrrum and a Twitterfirt any minute now. As will his loyal Trumpanzees. Cause the NYT is a loser. Right?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Can you believe that??? That alone – almost $1 BILLION in losses blows all to hell his claim that he is a great businessman (not that his ghostwriter and banker hadn’t already done that).

And it is telling indeed someone at Trump leaked this, isn’t it?

  14. piper Says:

Is Trump looking for any excuse to skip next debate knowing but not admitting that he failed miserably in the first debate. Maybe his fans in the audience had a bit of difficulty hearing his ‘yuuuuuge and wunderbar’ responses but we at home had no difficulty hearing and understanding his stupidity.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

He is probably looking for some excuse to skip it. Even his giant ego has to know he does poorly. However he will pay a price if he does – he may be able to redeem himself in another debate but if he skips it then the one he botched will be the only one shown. And the polls are showing that has caused him problems.

Not with his base of course, they don’t care about anything he says or does. Braindead.

      • piper Says:

Honestly I wonder how the GOP and Pribus can look at their chosen and defend him at all costs. Today’s headlines range from the fat shaming, bad mic, Hillary cheating on Bill and vice versus, his appearance in a soft-porn flick, and his latest rally mocking impression of Hillary falling. This isn’t a campaign, it’s a total mockery of our country and values.

Some of his buffoonish behavior could be a diversion tactic from some serious issues like his taxes. Or descend into dementia.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Great points – no doubt he is already looking for a way to get out of the debates since he clearly cannot maintain a modicum of professionalism for more than 30 minutes…

        • piper Says:

As much as I dislike Hillary and don’t want her as president, I absolutely do not want this demented buffoon as leader of our country. His latest mockery is a step too far for me. Using ridicule as a way to knock out your opponent demeans all of us especially seniors like me. I consider myself a good bike rider however several months ago coming to a stop at a major intersection I toppled off (sideways) my bike which according to Donald should open me up to ridicule and a bed in the nursing home.

Not defending Hillary’s medical issues but seriously………..

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, my abt your accident, piper! I hope you weren’t hurt!

And yes, Trump would most definitely ridicule your age, your abilities, and everything else he could think of try and diminish you because that is just how he rolls.

You said it, though – this kind of ridicule is just unacceptable. All of it is – he just cannot seem to stop himself from being down in the sewer in how the talks abt people and thinks of other people. I find him to be despicable.
