That is, in essence, what UNESCO said when they adopted a resolution recently that defies not just thousands of years of history, but all logic. It is based solely on rampant anti-Semitism, anti-Israel, and pro-Palestine sentiment.
Just what was this resolution, you might ask? Well, it is a doozy. In essence, the UN declared that the holy sights of the Temple Mount and the Western Wall had nothing to do with Jews. No, seriously. They did.
You know, the Temple Mount:
Joshua Yasmeh writing for the Daily Wire has something to say about this:
On Thursday, UNESCO, the politicized “cultural” arm of the United Nations, passed a resolution designed to erase more than 2000 years of Jewish history. The unequivocally anti-Jewish resolution posits that Jews have no connection to the Temple Mount. Of course, the sick irony here is that it was the Jews that built the Temple Mount, a structure now increasingly occupied by colonialist Arab-Muslims.
A shameful list of 24 countries voted for the resolution, while only six voted against it. The United States led the charge against the resolution, followed by the United Kingdom,Germany, Holland, Lithuania and Estonia. Another 26 other countries abstained from voting altogether.
“To say that Israel has no connection to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall is like saying that China has no connection to the Great Wall of China and that Egypt has no connection to the Pyramids,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “With this absurd decision, UNESCO lost the little legitimization it had left. But I believe that the historical truth is stronger and the truth will win.”
“No forum or body in the world can say that there is no connection between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel and to Jerusalem,” added Israeli President Reuven Rivlin. A body that does so is simply humiliating itself.” The president added that “we also understand criticism, but history cannot be changed.”
This is just a MIND BOGGLING declaration by UNESCO. Seriously mind boggling. Have these world leaders never picked up a history book? Read the Torah or Old Testament? Good HEAVENS, it could not be cleared that Jews are connected to the Temple Mount and Western Wall. As Yasmeh noted, they freakin’ BUILT the Temple at the Mount! Ya can’t get more connected than THAT, can you??
TWO THOUSAND YEAR HISTORY is being completely thrown out the window, all in the name of Palestinians and Islam, the late-comer to the religious party. Jews have been there for thousands of years, and Christians for two thousand years. Yet, Jewish history, culture, and faith, along with that of Christians, is being throw out the window.
You know who IS happy about this, don’t you? That would be the Palestinians:
“Few countries succumbed to the PR bullying orchestrated by Israel, which shifted the focus from Israel’s illegal and colonial actions in occupied East Jerusalem to issues irrelevant to the content and objectives of the resolutions, which aims to put an end to Israel’s dangerous and illegal actions against holy sites in Jerusalem and Palestinian rights, including the right to worship,” said the Palestinian Authority in a statement.
Not a word of that statement is true. In fact, Israel has arrested Jews for attempting to violate the status quo and worship at the Temple Mount. As it stands today, the Islamic Waqf (a religious committee managed by Jordan) enjoys administrative control over the Jewish holy site. Israel provides security for the area, while forcefully enforcing religious rules dictated by the waqf. […] (Click here to read the rest.)
This is just shocking. I cannot believe all of the nations who went along with this. I am literally shaking my head at the insanity that seems to have gripped not just our nation, but the world.
David Harsanyi of The Federalist also has a great, informative piece on what just went down at the UN and gives more of a history of this area, why the Muslims/Palestinians are pushing for this, and more. He sums up both the importance and history of this area, as well as the ultimate implication succinctly:
To put this in historic context, before 1967 (the year Palestinians and their Western allies like pretend history began) Jews were barred from these sites, which were often abused and neglected. Even today, access to holy sites within Arab-majority areas is unsafe without armed protection.
So when the Obama administration refuses to acknowledge that Jerusalem is located in Israel, as it recently did in the official press release of the president’s remarks at Shimon Peres’ memorial, it feeds this conflict. Peres, a dove who was willing to bend for “peace” more than most of Israel’s political establishment, had plenty to say on this issue, by the way. In 2007, he argued for a Jewish majority in a unified Jerusalem wherein holy sites “must remain under our control.”
According to Jewish tradition, the Temple Mount is where God found the dust that was used to create Adam, where God tested Abraham by asking him to sacrifice Isaac, where King Solomon built the First Temple, which was later rebuilt and then expanded by Herod and destroyed by the Romans. Aside from that, nearly every time experts dig in the area they excavate evidence of an ancient Jewish presence in Israel — often confirming biblical accounts. It’s going to take some heavy lifting to untether thousands of years of Jewish history from Israel. And it’s going to take a much more competent organization than the United Nations to get it done. (Click here to read the rest.)
This denial of thousands of years of history, denying the connection to the very people who BUILT this Temple, as well as its religious significance, defies all reason, logic, and common sense.
No wonder Israel has suspended connections with UNESCO. I mean, really – who could blame them? Not me, that’s for sure.
One thing it does highlight – quite clearly – is how anti-Israel, anti-Semitic, pro-Palestine, and anti-Democracy the United Nations has become. It is far past time that we take a strong stand for Israel, for Jerusalem as PART of Israel (again, it’s HISTORY, people! Read the Bible! Pick up a book! Do an Internet Search!), and stand strong against these attempts to rewrite thousands of years of history. That is not too much to ask, and is the least we can do.
This is an Open Thead.
