It Is All Beginning To Make Sense How Our Young People Are Turning To Socialism *Open Thread*

by

Recently, I saw an incredibly disturbing article in the Washington Free Beacon about where Millennials are in the political spectrum. Specifically, as the title indicates, about half of them are A-Okay with Socialism now. And not just Socialism, but a large number are good with COMMUNISM as well.

Honestly, I am just mystified at this development. And I am stunned at how unbelievably IGNORANT these young people are. Check out this bit of lunacy from the younger generation in the Free Beacon article:

[…]

Marion Smith, executive director of the organization, said in a statement the study confirms the group’s fears that “an emerging generation of Americans have little understanding of the collectivist system and its dark history.”

This sentiment is particularly notable in the lack of knowledge among young Americans of communist leaders.

One in four Americans believe more people were killed under former President George W. Bush than under former Soviet Union dictator Joseph Stalin, whose regime slaughtered some 20 million people between 1924 and 1953. One third of millennials believe the same, though only 18 percent said they were familiar with the dictator, according to the report.

Americans also severely underestimate the number of people killed under communist regimes, which led to the deaths of more than 100 million people. […](Click here to read the rest.)

What the Sam Hill is going on here?! Seriously. How is it possible that our young people do not know how deadly are the systems of both Socialism and Communism? Again, for reasons I cannot imagine, they seem to think that Socialism is one big happy Kum-ba-yah moment. Nothing could be further from the truth.

How do they not know that the countries that operate under those systems today are incredibly repressive and violent with their own citizens? All they have to do is look at Cuba, and not just the tourist area of Havanna, but how Cubans themselves are treated. Or the despair and downright hunger – literal hunger – of Venezuelans. Or the continued repression and oppression of the Chinese under their Communist system.

Then I heard the producer of a new documentary, “The Enemies Within,” Trevor Loudon, speak on the Steve Deace show recently (you can click here to get to that show. The Loudon interview is in hour three.). Of course, “the enemies within” are members of our government who are Socialists, Communists, and Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers. From the movie’s webpage:

[…]

First they infiltrated the unions…gaining full control in 1995. They then used the union money and leverage to purge the Democratic Party leadership of moderates and conservatives…replacing them with dozens of union and communist sympathizers.

Next, they used their bought-and-paid-for-lackeys in the House of Representatives and the Senate to ram through a radical communist/union agenda. Purported Democrat policies such as “green jobs”, the insane New START Treaty with our so-called “partner” Russia, socialization of student loans, the massive easing of voting qualifications and consequent vote fraud bonanza, mass educational indoctrination, the gutting of the U.S. military, Harry Reid’s Senate “nuclear option” and, of course, both Obamacare and “immigration amnesty” all come directly from the union/communist playbook.  While the economy implodes and the Republican hierarchy plays games, America’s tiny communist minority, aided by a cowardly and often complicit “mainstream media”, is tearing apart the greatest nation ever built on God’s Earth. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

What Loudon had to say was beyond disconcerting, though many of us knew or suspected this was happening.

That the unions have been used to instill this dangerous, undermining, system is not a shock, though it is telling. Why? Because the unions have taken over Education as well. Clearly, because how else would these young people “learn” that Bush was more monstrous than STALIN??

There seems to be little doubt Education is being used to undermine this nation insofar as the way in which children are being taught to think, or rather NOT taught to think. It has become all about FEELINGS. This Federalist article highlights that very reality with a new program being tested:

This summer the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL)announced it had chosen eight states to collaborate on creating K-12 “social emotional learning” (SEL) standards. All students, from kindergartners through high-school seniors, would be measured on five “non-cognitive” factors: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

Under such a system teachers become essentially therapists, and students become essentially patients. Supposedly this will clear away the psychological deadwood that obstructs a student’s path to academic achievement.

[…]

The new federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) ramps up the trend in several ways. ESSA requires rating schools based partly on “nonacademic” factors, which may include measures of SEL. It also pours money into SEL programs, “which may include engaging or supporting families at school or at home” (i.e., home visits by bureaucrats).

Other provisions include training school personnel on “when and how to refer . . . children with, or at risk of, mental illness,” and implementing programs for children who are deemed “at-risk” of academic or social problems, without ever defining “at-risk.” Similar ESSA language urges school officials to cast a wide net for special education in school-wide “intervention” and “support” programs, allowing schools to sidestep parental consent requirements for formal evaluations.

There is a great deal to this article, and I strongly recommend you read it in its entirety, but there is one more bit to highlight here on SEL:

[…]

So as parents are beginning to recognize, this entire SEL scheme is objectionable on many levels. Particularly troubling are indications that CASEL and other SEL proponents advance political and cultural viewpoints that conflict with those of many families. Parents will be assured the goal is merely to instill more positive mindsets to increase academic achievement, but the evidence suggests another motivation is in play.

It’s revealing to examine the connections CASEL has to far-left individuals and organizations that push particular agendas. One CASEL board member is Linda Darling-Hammond, the radical education professor who was Bill Ayers’s choice to be President Obama’s secretary of Education. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

And you thought Common Core was bad!

I trust you got the big connection – Obama’s good buddy and domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers, a board member for CASEL and major leftie, wanted Darling-ammond as the Secretary pf Education. Wow.

When you put them all together – Common Core, Casel, SEL, the unions, legislators – you can begin to see exactly how we got here.

What I do NOT understand, though, is this: why did we allow this to happen? Why did parents allow this to happen? Why did teachers, the true educators,  allow this to happen?

bernie-memeAnd how the hell are we going to get back on track to true education, accurate teaching of history and current events that expose the dangers of Socialism and Communism, and not have our young people embrace it like they did Bernie Sanders? How are we going to get away from this “Educational Emotionalism” and back to teaching subjects, especially considering the fecklessness of our Congress to stand up to those infiltrators who have promoted these systems?

I hope somebody knows the answer to this because I sure don’t, not the way things are looking these days.

But that’s just me. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

remember when a parent could be a parent and teach a kid right from wrong. Now the schools have more rights to your child than a parent does. This started several decades ago and now is in full bloom. Yes we have cheated our kids, but also the future of this country

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You are so right, Helen. We have cheated both our children and this country. Can you imagine these young people being taught emotionalism and feelings are most important running this country? Instead of being EDUCATED, they are being used to further a political ideology. It is beyond appalling.

just show your drivers license and say you are a citizen and you can vote.
now last week the federal government claimed that showing a Pa. drivers license could not help you when trying to get on a plane.
10 states issue drivers licenses to illegals.
what is wrong with this picture

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Isn’t that just insane??? It is also ILLEGAL. Non-citizens CANNOT vote in this country! Or at least they didn’t use to be able to do so. WTH is happening to us?!

I heard the Trevor Loudon interview too and was beyond appalled. I was sure the government and education was full of Socialists, what I wasn’t aware of was how many or how deep within our system they are.

Young people have been prancing around wearing “Che” sweatshirts for two generations. They don’t know who he really was or what he stood for or what he did. They just think it’s cool. How do you connect with minds like that?

Their minds have been rotted by the “education” system their whole lives. I don’t know if any reality can be inserted at this late date.

All I can say is what I say to my friends and family – get your kids out of public school while they still have the ability to think. Home School, charter school – whatever. Just get them away from the Marxist Public Schools.

Important topic and great post Rev!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Wasn’t that interview both frightening and maddening?? How is it that SO few people have been able to so shape this nation into becoming a Socialist nation, never mind the people who are connected to the Muslim Brotherhood?? (Again, one of the first tenets of the MB is to destroy the United States and another one is to destroy Israel. If elected US officials are supporting the MB, they are, in essence, committing TREASON.)

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Dangit, I meant to say that back in the day, public education was EXCELLENT, at least where I grew up. That was before the FEDS got involved. The Fed. Gov’t has no place in Ed., and technically, as I understand it, they are not SUPPOSED to be able to mandate what is taught. They use purse strings to manipulate states, and too many states want that money rather than doing their job of educating children.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

We have Jimmy Carter to thank for the fact that our public education system is no longer a great one. It was during his administration that the Department of Education was formed – signed into law on October 17, 1979 and began operating on May 4, 1980.

That was the beginning of the end for a “good” public education versus a systemic propagandizing and dumbing down of our young people. Once the Feds got their hands on it was the end.

Now, as technology becomes more and more a part of our culture we have a work force that is not competent to do the work because they lack the skills.

Many young people think they are well educated because they can manipulate a smart phone or some other personal device. Did we think we were well-educated because we understood television better than our grandparents?

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You are so right, Marge. Abt Carter and the Dept. of Ed., abt young people thinking that knowing how to play video games or using their iPhones equals intelligence and knowledge, all of it.

It is truly disconcerting. Just SMH at where we are now…

        • helenk3 Says:

I went to 13 different schools in 12 years. Both public and catholic and I think I got a better education then a college grad gets today

          • kenoshamarge Says:

My Dad was in the army to I went to a lot of different schools too.

I think I knew more when I left High School than the average college student knows today. We were “required” to know. They are not.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I have NO doubt that is true for you both. I know it is true for me. I didn’t move around a lot (though I did go to boarding school for my junior and senior years). When you see college students having to take English, Math, and more after they have been accepted to college to get UP to the collegiate level, you know we have failed our students.

Never mind that too many seem to be clueless abt our form of governance, our history, and more. It is beyond disturbing…

NAACP Tells Black Parents To Keep Their Kids In Crappy Schools As Leverage For Tax Hikes

If they cared about black kids’ futures, the NAACP would be begging more charter schools to open as fast as possible, not demanding the opposite.

    http://thefederalist.com/2016/10/18/naacp-tells-black-parents-keep-kids-crappy-schools-leverage-hike-taxes/

NAACP has become just an arm of the Democrat Party. Sad how few black “leaders” care about black people. Maybe a reason that so many blacks are listening to thugs like BLM.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Can you believe that?? I mean, really – they would rather their kids have a terrible education for political reasons than have them be educated and make something of themselves. That is horrible parenting as well as being horrible role models. They should be ASHAMED.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I knew there were a lot of people that put their politics before their country but I was stunned that they would put them before their children. The rot has spread further than I would have guessed or believed.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

To say their priorities are screwed up is a vast understatement. Though I am disgusted that Sen. Scott endorsed Trump, school choice is one of his signature issues. And he highlights the importance of school choice for black children. Why the NAACP opposes it highlights how party and politics trump (!) their own children.

That is a damning indictment if ever I heard one.

    a must read

    • kenoshamarge Says:

The evil Soros tentacles are everywhere.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That they are. This kind of thing has been done not just to unseat elected officials on this level, but also on school boards. People for the American Way advocated that very thing years ago when they spoke at a UU General Convention.

But yeah – no doubt Soros has his claws in everything…

  11. mcnorman Says:

I gave up a career that would have taken me around the world to teach, but I had a child that I didn’t want to leave in the hands of the government. Instead, I made the choice to provide the skills that would be necessary to move throughout life no matter what career choice was made. As the child of an immigrant that never had choice until they came to this country I believe that a legacy to the world should be one that is giving not taking. That said, it meant making many sacrifices to ensure that this child would grow into a human being that would give back.

I believe that my generation was given so much because the previous generation had faced so many obstacles. In doing that, I think my generation became spoiled and the next was spoiled worse. As I have said so often, we are reaping what we have sown. I am reminded by a book that I read about the Guggenheim family. The patriarch made no bones about how the family would work as a whole and not divide. A house divided is conquered. As difficult as times are today, I am seeing a resurgence of multigenerational households which are giving children another perspective besides the I gotta have stuff and take selfies parental units. Unlike China, our culture do not revere education. It has become a chore. A chore that the government will enforce.

    • mcnorman Says:

That said, socialism takes but I don’t care. I remember student’s jaws dropping when they learned about socialism and communism. I guess it has all been revised to sound cool now. Very sad to know that children are used as pawns. In the end, those same children will be the ones taking care of everyone in the resthomes and that is frightening.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

mcnorman, what tremendous comments. It is an indicator of who you are that you gave up your career to rear and teach your child, and a blessing that you were able to do that, too. Your child most definitely benefited from your decision and abilities to do so. What a gift all the way around, especially to be able to keep your child’s mind out of the hands of the gov’t.

I think we are seeing all too clearly the way that is going. Yep – Che is the coolest, no mention of his being a mass murderer at all. (I only knew that abt him because someone mentioned that was the case and I looked it up. Then again, I didn’t learn abt him until I was in graduate school. And yes, he was held up as a man of the people fighting for their right.)

Great comment – and yes, it is frightening as hell that these are the people on whom we will have to rely.

      • mcnorman Says:

Thank you but I do believe that it is our job to live a life of service and not taking from our brothers and sisters. I am horrified at how easy it is now to justify taking and not giving.
