🗽 Proud To Be An American 🗽 Open Thread

by

I’m always a little surprised when something happens, or someone does something good and people say, “that makes me proud to be an American.”  I can only speak for myself, but I’m always proud to be an American.

I am frequently/usually ashamed of the government and many/most people in that government. Ashamed because for all the hot air and hype they serve this country so poorly.

I am frequently ashamed of the voters that don’t respect their vote enough to spend it wisely. Instead they respond to the hot air and sound bites or just vote, without investigation or thought for their “tribe.”  It would just be sad if it weren’t so destructive. The Trumpanzees are only the latest iteration of this phenomena.

“I predict future happiness for Americans, if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” ~ Thomas Jefferson

Jefferson should have mentioned that the people could only prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people only if enough people cared. And only as long as a majority of the people were the ones that labored and didn’t want the government to take care of them.

I am always proud to be an American. Proud to live in a country with a Constitution that guarantees my God given rights. A Constitution that many of those that would govern us and do govern us try to circumvent or destroy. The Constitution would stop those who would usurp the power and therefore is the enemy of the corrupt and venal.

Obama has been very good at that. Shameless about trying to circumvent or destroy a document he took an oath to protect and serve. However partisan you are you should be appalled at that. The rights guaranteed by the Constitution are for all of us. The rights “given” by politicians are just hot air and guaranteed by their whim or what the polls show or what lie they’ve decided to peddle today.

Obama criticizes Trump for disrespecting the Constitution

I don’t know, not having a reliable crystal ball if Donald Trump would protect and serve the Constitution. I doubt it. I doubt it mostly because I don’t think he has the faintest idea what it says or means. Rule by Donald Trump would be rule by Trump’s whims or wants. A man who has lived 70 years without learning to control himself any better than a spoiled toddle isn’t about to suddenly become a constitutional scholar or supporter. Quite honestly, I don’t think he has it in him.

Those that support him don’t seem to care. Evidently the foundation of America, the Constitution doesn’t mean anything because they’re “mad”. Well how about that? More adults throwing toddler-like temper tantrums. I sure as hell am not proud of them.

“The government is merely a servant―merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn’t. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them.” ~ Mark Twain

Hillary Clinton knows what the Constitution means and what it says. Hate her as you will she is absolutely better informed as to what the government can and cannot do. There is almost no doubt she would do as much to circumvent or destroy the Constitution as Obama.

She is an Alinskyite and the Constitution is anathema to the likes of her. Ditto religion. These people only pretend to be Christian. You cannot be a progressive and be a Christian. They are two diametrically opposed positions.

“No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session.” ~  Mark Twain

There are so many things to be proud of as an American. Sadly many of those things are disappearing before our very eyes. We could once be very proud, as Americans, of our education system.

As recently as 20 years ago, the United States was ranked No.1 in high school and college education. Much of the boom in American education during the second half of the 20th century was fueled by the Montgomery G.I. Bill, which provided scholarships and student loans to veteran service personnel returning from World War II.

In 2009, the United States was ranked 18th out of 36 industrialized nations. Over time, complacency and inefficiency, reflective of lower priorities in education, and inconsistencies among the various school systems contributed to a decline.

When Jimmy Carter signed the law the created the United States Department of Education he began the concentrated determination by the Federal Government to indoctrinate not educate. He was a Democrat after all.

Our children no longer know the things they need to know and they know a whole lot of things that just ain’t so. Public education was once a wonderful thing. The leftist agenda to socialize everything and the inability or disinclination of those on the right to stop them has done this to a whole generation of children. It is now working it’s way towards the next.

We need better, smarter, more educated people to deal with a technological world that changes almost daily. Instead we get dolts that cannot fill out a job application. But they do excel at video games.

I am proud to be an American. I am proud of our past, be it imperfect or not because we try for the good. We are among the most generous people on earth. We have a lot of room to improve and could do it if the corrupt government and the lazy voters got out of the way.

And you know I couldn’t end this post without this wonderful song by Lee Greenwood.

Excellent post and distinction, Marge. Yes, proud to be American, but what our elected officials have done in our name, not so much.

I was thinking abt this earlier, how we have gotten to this point in tis nation where. How we have allowed horrific events like partial birth abortion, or even abortion up to 20 weeks, how our schools have gotten to the place they are, how our young people are being taught Socialism is good and Capitalism is bad, all of that.

Then I realized the sad answer – because people like me, before 2008, voted for the people who put these things into place. I voted for Carter. I voted fro Clinton – twice. I voted straight ticket Dem through to 2004, casting my vote for a man I disliked (Kerry) because he was a Dem. I allowed this to happen to my country. And I am deeply apologetic for the role I helped play in us being where we are now.

And now I am trying to figure out how the HELL to put the brakes on the PC-ness that has overtaken us, to get us back to respecting LIFE, and not caring more abt animals than humans (talking abt abortion here and groups like PETA which equated artificial insemination of animals to RAPE of women: http://www.dailywire.com/news/10498/peta-trivializes-rape-appalling-new-ad-amanda-prestigiacomo), though as you know I have a deep love for women.

Anyway – your post is timely and important. Thanks so much for this!

I am just as guilty as you for voting for the people that seem determined to destroy all we hold dear. But before we had access to all the information we just didn’t know the truth. Media made sure of that.

And in all that time just what were the Republicans doing? We voted them into control of the House and Senate under Obama and what have they done to stop him and the socialist agenda he espouses?

I think it takes people, voters, who don’t give a damn about party designation to stop both these corrupt parties.

Will it make any difference to what we want or need or believe if Mitch McConnell is in charge of the Senate or Chuck Schumer? Is one better than the other? One talks a good game but they are, IMO, pretty much two sides of the same Republicrat coin. Dishonest, lacking integrity and out for what they can get and to hell with the country.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I agree – they are the same coin. It is truly disconcerting, isn’t it? So frustrated with all of this…

Jonah Goldberg: If Voting Is Sacred, Early Voting Must Go

An estimated 40 percent of voters will cast ballots before Election Day.

    And that’s nuts.

Before you rush to the safety of the usual argument, let me admit that, of course, some early and absentee voting is necessary. Obviously, overseas military personnel and voters with certain disabilities should be accommodated. But defending their right to vote absentee is not a defense of mass-scale early voting.

At Least Neither of Them Is Likely to Be Reelected

The silver lining to a contest between two of the worst candidates imaginable is that whichever manages not to lose, we only have to endure the ensuing disaster for at most 4 years. Unless the opposition party somehow comes up with a comparably awful candidate for 2020, neither is re-electable,

this cartoon is a picture of how I feel right now. I voted today. the last ad I heard as I was leaving the house was hillary talking about continuing backtrack’s legacy. I have never felt so sick over a vote, but I can not let backtrack’s legacy continue. I am in Florida where it is a close race.
sorry for the excuses but I really feel sick about it

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I can imagine how sick you feel. But you did what you thought was right. No one can fault you for that. You voted your conscience and each of us must do that. It’s not as if you are or ever were a cheerleading Trumpanzee Helen.

Here in Wisconsin I can vote for Evan McMullin because it isn’t close and Trump cannot win.

Quite honestly if I had to make a choice I think I would vote for Hillary just because I think Trump is nuts.

In Florida you may be helping Rubio to win and he will be needed in the Senate. Maybe if he’s given a second chance he can be the man we once hoped he would be. And with him vs Murphy it isn’t a lessor of two evils. It’s a somewhat decent man against a rabid fool. Not hard to choose there.

Breaking!! Rolling Stone GUILTY in RAPE HOAX lawsuit!!

Jurors have found a Rolling Stone author liable in defamation suit over a story she wrote about a rape at the University of Virginia that turned out to be untrue.

Mona Charen on Trump and Clinton

“But, some protest, if it’s close and there’s a chance to get a (nominal) Republican elected, why not jump on the Trump train? Because there’s a second lesson in that Churchill story, namely, that when someone has revealed his character to you, don’t delude yourself that he will change. Trump is the most shameless liar ever to advance this far in American politics. He doesn’t lie just about trivial matters like his poll numbers, the size of his crowds, or his wealth, he engages in the kind of dishonesty that undermines civic trust. He retweets false statistics about black-on-white crime and about Muslim Americans celebrating on 9/11. He legitimizes crazed conspiracy theories like vaccines cause autism, Rafael Cruz was implicated in JFK’s assassination, or George W. Bush lied us into war. Beyond his titanic dishonesty, Trump is appallingly uninformed about foreign and defense policy – the most important (and unconstrained) realm of presidential action.’

I agree with her assessment. I think the GOP will fight her – I don’t think they will fight him.

I still doubt his sanity. I just believe he’s an ignorant, pyscopathic, narcissistic lunatic.

A friend had this powerful piece at Facebook, an appeal to Conservative men: https://medium.com/@aliciaellis/an-appeal-to-republican-men-on-november-8th-1383170f7b53#.1w28wbw25

And Marge, I think you are right that the Reps will actually stand up to her unlike how they have been with Obama. Since she is disliked more than just abt anybody – except Trump – they may well do their job at checks and balances…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Although the media will be on her “side” about every issue, because they are libs and so is she, they will not be rabidly on her side. They just don’t like her.

Back when she was running against Obama and we were supporting her I couldn’t understand why the media was so pro-Obama and treated her so horrible.

Now I get it – they don’t like her. It seems except to those few she really cares about or needs, she is arrogant and nasty and ugly. No wonder she isn’t liked.

  8. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am sure this will surprise no one here – Trump is playing his crowd abt how awful the media is to him. Yeah, right:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

His supporters, and I do not mean those that are reluctantly voting for him because they think he will be marginally better than Hillary, his died-in-the-wool rah rah fans, are as ignorant and crazy as he is.
