Election Eve Humor *Open Thread*

Here we are – the night before the Election. Dear Lord, I am so sick of this whole Election season. I think this has been the worst one of my entire life, and I ain’t no Spring Chicken.

One of the ways I have made it through, and I am sure this is the case for others of you, is through humor. That is precisely what Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood used as part of their opening for the 50th CMA Awards this past week:

I couldn’t agree more – this Election HAS taken forever. So, so glad that come what may, it will be over – at least for a year or so before people start campaigning for 2020 – tomorrow night. Whew.

So, so glad. So, so sick of this campaign season, the ugliness, the vitriol, the attacks, the relentless ads, all of it.

But before we bid adieu to the 2016 Election, I have to share with you some hilarious Tweets from GQ’s top 100 funniest political tweets (h/t to Steve Deace for reading some of these on his radio show). Honestly, I was literally guffawing at some of these Tweets. People can be so creative and funny – all in just 14 characters. From GQ’s “The 100 Funniest Tweets From The Unending Nightmare That’s Been The 2016 Election“:

People make fun of Ben Carson but he did brain surgery on me in 2006 and I’m here to say that potato chimcham luna pop canoe town fimpy. 3:46 PM – 4 May 2015

A sign language interpreter at a Trump rally just wildly swinging around both middle fingers in all directions as he speaks. 10:22 PM – 31 Aug 2015

I will never forgive Donald Trump for making me feel sorry for Jeb Bush.  9:49 PM – 20 Feb 2016

Of course Donald Trump eats taco bowls, the only Mexican food that comes with a wall built around it.  3:04 PM – 5 May 2016..

Mass shooting Twitter:

Liberals: It’s Guns
Conservatives: It’s Terrorism
Trump: Thank you, I’m awesome   1:11 PM – 12 Jun 2016

And last for this post but certainly not least:

With this election we’re simultaneously breaking through the glass ceiling and the rock bottom. We got a really big room now  8:19 PM – 9 Oct 2016

[…] (Click here to read the rest of these hilarious Tweets.)

And there you have it, or at least some of them. Reading through the list was just cracking me up. People can be so funny sometimes.

Finally,  I have to share the last SNL Trump v. Clinton opening for this Election Season. I haven’t watched SNL in years, but I have to say, their openings featuring “Clinton and “Trump” are just too funny:

Wasn’t that awesome? Yep, definitely their best work in AGES.

I hope you found some humor in the Tweets as well ad the videos. They are a bit of a respite before the Big Day tomorrow. Then again, no matter WHO takes the Prize on Tuesday, it isn’t going to be Americans. And we are going to need a helluva lot more humor to get through the next four years.

Thank all that is holy that there is only one more day of this 2016 Election Campaign season to go. See you on the flip side.

This is an Open Thread.

Thank you for a great post Rev. The humor is needed so very much. Idiot supporters from both candidates are swarming comment sections everywhere trying their best to prove that as stupid and nasty as their candidate is, they will try to match them in stupidity and nastiness.

There can be no winner in the election. One will survive and will be hated by large swathes of Americans. How is that a win?

And the biggest loser of all is the country. Because neither of these vile people has the slightest intention of fixing anything or the faintest idea of how to do it if they has the intent.

    Lord help us all.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thank you, Marge – and you are right. Either way, we are screwed. The best we can hope for is a one-term president, and that there are enough votes for third party candidates, especially Conservative ones, that there will be a burgeoning party to which we can belong.

And yeah – if we don’t laugh, we’ll cry – and while this is easily the worst election season I can remember, it is also great fodder for humorists. So, good for them, right? And good for us since it helps to keep our heads fro exploding…

😉 Former KKK leader David Duke told reporters today that if he’s elected to the Senate, he would be Donald Trump’s most loyal advocate. When asked what he’d do if Trump loses, Duke said, “I’ll burn that cross when we come to it.” ~ Seth Meyers

Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump ran national commercials during the World Series games, marking the only time Cubs and Indians fans were booing at the same time. ~ Jimmy Fallon

I want to mention this whole Comey thing again. There is the presumption that there was something incendiary in Clinton’s emails, ergo, Comey is a “traitor” for not charging her. On the other side, there is now more credence to the claim that Comey was attempting to influence the Election.

And he DID. That’s the thing. He did against her because people ASSUMED, though no emails had been read, that Clinton’s emails were a smoking gun. Now that the FBI has said there was nothing there (and yes, they could have gotten through them all in this amt of time, despite what Trump says), he is affecting it again.

Bottom line, he should have kept his mouth shut in the FIRST place and followed the protocol in place for just this reason. Now, once again, he has depicted the FBI as a political arm not the justice arm it is supposed to be.

Again, not an apologist for Clinton, but the presumption that there was fire in these emails was just that – a presumption. Since Comey had read not one of them, for people to make that assumption was on them. Comey deserves to be fired, no doubt abt it. But calling him a “Traitor” is a bridge too far. People need to get a grip already.

Is it kosher for classified emails from the SOS to be on Weiner’s PC?

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I don’t think much of anything that Hillary Clinton did with her email account(s) was kosher. She and her aids seem to have tossed important documents and even classified material around like a bunch of old ladies with funny cat videos.

The problem is that none of this is new or news. Comey and the FBI have knows about this and should have done something about it a long time ago.

His inserting himself into an election 10 days before we go to the polls wasn’t right. And now he seems to be saying, never mind nothing to see kids just a day before we vote.

Hillary is a corrupt hag. But Comey is a corrupt, dishonest idiot IMO and should be thrown out of the FBI or any other law enforcement job ASAP. He cannot be trusted to just do his job and not play politics.

If she does manage to get off the hook it may well be because he bungled things so badly.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Apparently Cheryl Mills told Clinton it was A-Okay for her to use a private server: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3912052/Hillary-Clinton-aide-Cheryl-Mills-didn-t-want-run-President-responsible-private-server-John-Podesta-emails-reveal.html

And apparently, many people in the Obama Cabinet have used private emails while serving. It is curious why they aren’t being investigated too since it is against the rules PERIOD for them to do so.

Clinton clearly was careless as hell with Classified emails – no doubt abt it. That alone is just mind-boggling, especially with the level of hackers out there now eager and able to get into servers with that kind of info bandied abt. Just SMH at this whole thing…

          • kenoshamarge Says:

Hillary is horrible of that I have no doubt. But I suspect there are plenty that have done much the same things she has done in an effort to hide their shenanigans. And I mean on both sides of the aisle.

Let’s face it, we have a rogue government, left and right that damn well does whatever it wants to do and never pays a penalty for it. And their “tribe” is fine with that.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Evidently so. That is what the FBI has decided. That there was nothing there worthy of charges.

Again – exactly why Comey should have kept his big mouth shut until the investigation was COMPLETED. He broke the rules, affected the Election, and as a result, should be fired.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

There ya have it! That is exactly what is happening now.

Thanks to the way Comey has handled this, his decisions – all three of them – are highly suspect. That there was something worthy of Hillary being charged is, at this point, according to the FBI, unsubstantiated. Twice they have made this determination.

So I reckon that’s it, then.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Don’t worry Rev, Trump says he’s going to have her arrested. Because that’s what POTUS does, arrest people.

Thanks to Comey and his bungling of the matter even if they have enough evidence to indict, and I believe they do, a large number of people will always think the corrupt old bat was railroaded by a crooked FBI.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Sigh. This is where we are now. I think you mentioned something before abt Trump and the Constitution. Pretty sure he said he had never read it.. For pete’s sake, you’re running for PRESIDENT, and you’ve never read the Constitution?? it isn’t that long!

I seem to be doing that a lot these days.

  7. kenoshamarge Says:

😉 A Laugh Times poll showed comedians sharply divided over political jokes. If you make fun of Trump’s outbursts, people think you’re for Hillary, if you joke about something Hillary got caught doing, they think you’re for Trump. It’s like no one can accept you’ve found two idiots in one election.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, good grief. Comedians almost ALWAYS make fun of both sides, and heaven KNOWS both sides are deserving of ridicule this Election.

Yeah – people need to get a grip already. Neither one of these people are worthy of the adoration and outrage against the other side. IMO, that is.

  8. kenoshamarge Says:

I think all the tweets are funny but this is my favorite:

“People make fun of Ben Carson but he did brain surgery on me in 2006 and I’m here to say that potato chimcham luna pop canoe town fimpy “

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I literally LOL when I heard that one. So funny…

There were a bunch of great ones – including ones abt Hillary, often with photos and videos. People can be so creative…

  10. kenoshamarge Says:

Earlier to day I had read from a Trump supporter commenting on one of the blogs that Obama had yelled at a vet. I don’t pay much attention to Trump supporters because they have only a passing acquaintance with the truth. Sure enough I was listening to Glenn Beck and the truth came out.

Scroll down to: Beck Blitz: Obama yelled at a veteran and hear it for yourself.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, good grief. Well, Beck is right – Trump’s supporters aren’t going to go check for themselves because TRUMP SAID IT SO IT MUST BE TRUE!

It matters not one bit that Trump lies abt 90% of the time. They do not care. They just do not care.Truth means nothing these days,

Thank you for setting the record straight, Marge!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I can’t tell you how strange it felt to be defending Obama. But if I don’t tell the truth then I’m not better than the rest of the idiots that don’t care about what’s real and what isn’t.

Evidently the Trumpsters are also saying he was the victim of a botch assassination attempt. It appears some guy showed up with a Clinton sign that lit up.

You don’t get a decent government from voters that will not seek out the truth. You get a bunch of ignorant yahoos.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You are absolutely right. I was telling Suzy at dinner what Obama said abt the veteran, and she stopped me to ask WHO was saying those things (you know, 1. we have free speech, 2. he fought for the country, 3. respect your elders, and 4. don’t boo people). Yeah – it was surprising, but that is indeed what he said.

And yeah – the guy with the sign said he was with “Republicans Against Trump,” and people went crazy when he held up his sign, then someone yelled, “Gun!” There was no gun. Trump was never at risk. That they want to depict him as a victim/martyr while trying to claim how tough he is is just laughable…

So, so true – and these days, unfortunately, there seem to be too many yahoos who could care less abt the truth…

this is an article that should be bookmarked so it is not forgotten after the election

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It is a great article. I get email updates from Attkisson, and am never disappointed in her level of journalism. She continues to be one of the best true journalists out there…

      Thanks for this, Helen!

The only good thing is that this interminable election season will finally be over. That’s the most I can say…

  13. helenk3 Says:

    I loved this

  14. helenk3 Says:

oh oh FBI agents want to talk

    • helenk3 Says:

valjar tells backtrack to fire comey

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I hate to agree with ValJar, but she is right, IMO – Comey has disgraced himself and his agency by the way he has conducted himself and the investigations. Regardless of the outcome, his handling seems poor to me.

That said, there is a presumption of guilt with Clinton over the emails. Many (most?) of us think that emailing Classified information over a private server is wrong and should warrant comeuppance. But if the FBI is saying she didn’t actually break any laws – twice – do we accept that as the truth? Meaning, maybe the FBI did actually do its job and it didn’t find sufficient evidence.

Convicting people in the court of public opinion has become the norm in this country now – just look at the BLM group. This is in no way to excuse Clinton – not at all. But we are assuming she is guilty. As hard as it is imagine, what if she isn’t? Heck, the FBI said she isn’t. So yeah – wow.
