Sun And Sand, Here I Come *Open Thread*

by

The weather has turned unseasonably cold for us here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. I know my Northern and Midwestern friends think it’s funny when I refer to 40 degrees as being our deep winter temperatures, but it’s true. And it is COLD here, at least to me. I imagine my fellow Southerners are bundling up a good bit these days, too.

Anyway – this is what it feels like to me these days (if I had hot flashes, that is!):

Brrrrrrr…

I reckon it is a good thing, then, that I am flying down to the East End of Grand Cayman today. Now that the election is over at long freakin’ last, along with the over-the-top frenzied reactions from a host of people, the timing could not be better, am I right? Whew. And to think we had planned this a while back after having to cancel a summer trip due to my back surgery. Seems mighty prescient now, doesn’t it?

Yes, this will be my view for the next ten days, and I cannot WAIT:

Oh, and the temperatures are in the mid-80’s. The water temperature is 82 degrees. How perfect is that?

Suzy will be spending a good bit of time scuba diving for the first 5 or 6 days while I busy myself reading and enjoying the pool/hot tub. There will also be time to go see a few movies, as well as spend time with our dear friend, Stephanie (whose son-in-law co-owns the resort and dive company). This is the three of is at one of our favorite restaurants, Tukka’s, right on the ocean:

The food there is fantastic – fresh caught fish (among other things), with an Aussie theme, since the owner is Australian.

Of course, that is but one of the great places to which we go eat while there, but nothing is better than Stephanie’s barbecue chicken or jerk chicken. AND, she is bringing some over for us tonight after we get to our condo. How sweet is that? She is just the sweetest, nicest woman, and funny as hell, too. That goes a long way in my book!

Anyway, many a time we have barbecue dinners with Stephanie and her family at the resort. This is Stephanie (one the left) with her daughter, Shannon, a former Miss Cayman Islands:

Such wonderful, warm people there, and these two embody that spirit oh-so-well.

And then there is the crystal clear beautifully blue waters in different shades. There are barrier reefs around a good bit of the island, including in front of the resort where our place is, but right u the road, the reef ends for a bit, and the waves are able to roll in:

Oh, yes – it is some kind of beautiful, I tell you.

I will be gone for ten days, returning the weekend of December 3rd. I’ll check in when I can, but generally I try to and disconnect from technology for the most part while on vacation. In my absence, dear KenoshaMarge will have a Thanksgiving post. I, for one, am looking forward to what she has to say. I am sure it will be wonderful as her posts always are!

thanksgiving-cornucopia-background-imageI wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. May you have much for which to be thankful (I know I do, including all of you!); food to warm the belly and soul, and love in abundance. And if you are traveling, I pray you arrive safely and return home safely as well.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for a wonderful post Rev! I love it when you post images. I can then “picture” where you are and what you are doing. I get to “share” you vacation in my own way. And that’s a treat.

I have a Thanksgiving post ready to go.

After that I plan on posting nude images of politicians until you return. Just kidding.

Here’s something to be thankful for…

    Court blocks overtime rule

In a blow to the Obama administration’s labor-law plans, a federal court has blocked the start of a rule that would have made an estimated 4 million more American workers eligible for overtime pay heading into the holiday season.

As a result of Tuesday’s ruling, overtime changes set to take effect Dec. 1 are now unlikely be in play before vast power shifts to a Donald Trump administration, which has spoken out against Obama-backed government regulation and generally aligns with the business groups that stridently opposed the overtime rule.

The U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Texas granted the nationwide preliminary injunction, saying the Department of Labor’s rule exceeds the authority the agency was delegated by Congress.

Trump Humiliates Romney Again, Tells Press Romney ‘Desperately Wants’ Secretary of State

Sitting at a large conference table and flanked by his top aides, including Stephen Bannon, Jared Kushner, Reince Priebus, and Conway, Trump also told the press that Mitt Romney, who had been an unvarnished critic during the campaign, now “desperately wants” to be Secretary of State under Trump.

While Trump was trying to embarrass Romney, his campaign manager Kellyanne Conway was claiming the two men had shown mutual respect during the meeting:

Governor Romney and President-elect Trump had a very far reaching conversation about the world, about global affairs, certainly about the economy … And much of what Mitt Romney said about our nation’s economy and much of what he said about the world in 2012 against President Obama has become true, has been revealed to be true. There was a great deal to discuss, mutual respect and I thought a productive conversation.

Once again Trump proves that no matter how hard his minders try to get him to behave in a presidential manner it just won’t happen. The man simply has no class. And no amount of lipstick on this pig will make that happen.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, good Lord. That kind of thing is such evidence of what a man spirited bully Trump is. There was just no cause to say anything like that. Wow.
