🎄 Open Thread December 2nd 🎄

Friday open thread with articles of interest to me and hopefully to you too.

The whining and complaining continue. Trump continues to be Trump, to no one’s surprise that had a brain.

The left keeps moving further left to show those silly fools that voted for Trump that they won’t take no for an answer. And to prove that when they took a jackass for their spirit animal they knew what they were doing. Except most jackasses are much smarter than Democrats.

In other words, same stuff, different day.

Jonah Goldberg: Don’t Fall Prey to Bear Propaganda

The culture is shot-through with bear propaganda. Coca-Cola runs elegant Christmastime cartoons of polar bear families celebrating the season. Never mind that polar bears don’t live in intact nuclear families. The males are cads who spend a few days with the single white females before scampering off to spend the rest of their lives as deadbeat dads.

Also, if the supply of adorable (yet tasty!) seals runs low, the males have been known to eat bear cubs.

They also eat other things when the opportunity arises. Which is what prompted this column in the first place. Last month, a video of a polar bear palling around with a dog went viral, appearing on numerous news shows and eliciting a chorus of “awws” from audiences and anchors alike.

But experts in polar bear behavior recognized that the bear was checking it out the way an experienced shopper squeezes a cantaloupe.  http://townhall.com/columnists/jonahgoldberg/2016/12/02/dont-fall-prey-to-bear-propaganda-n2253422

Widespread Coverage of Liberal Hate Crimes ‘Study’ Shows Media’s Fake News Problem

The Southern Poverty Law Center—an organization that calls the Family Research Council an “extremist group” because of its socially conservative views on LGBT matters—reported Nov. 29 that “in the 10 days following the election, there were almost 900 reports of harassment and intimidation from across the nation.”

There’s just one issue: The Southern Poverty Law Center didn’t confirm these “nearly 900” incidents actually happened.

“The 867 hate incidents described here come from two sources—submissions to the #ReportHate page on the SPLC website and media accounts,” the SPLC report states. “We have excluded incidents that authorities have determined to be hoaxes; however, it was not possible to confirm the veracity of all reports.”

In other words, who has any idea if these incidents actually happened or not?

Kurt Schlichter: Trollmaster Trump Is Driving Liberals to New Heights of Fussy Fury

Transition chaos? Oh please. The new crew is functioning remarkably well, despite the media spazzathon. And it’s always fun to get an organizational critique from the apoplectic liberal media whineatariat, whose sole organizational experience consists of gathering up the usual scruff-bearded femboys and scruff-bearded womyn and marching over to the dean’s office to demand that the campus wrestling team stop liking girls.

I don’t like Trump and I never will. But once he won I was willing to wait and see what he did. I am willing to have him prove me wrong.

Plus it is so much fun watching liberal heads explode. Watching them make such giant asses of themselves was a bonus I hadn’t expected. Liberal whiners = hypocrites on steroids. Also fun to watch.

I am willing to do what Steve Deace and Ben Shapiro, two of my favorite adults, are doing, and wait and see. Praise him when he’s right and attack him when he’s wrong.

Wait–Obama Said What About Rolling Stone’s Journalism?

” We were talking about the issue of a divided country. Good journalism continues to this day. There’s great work done in Rolling Stone.

Excuse me? The Rolling Stone is doing great work…in journalism? Did the president miss that major episode where the magazine straight up lied about an alleged gang rape that occurred on the campus of the University of Virginia? You know that story about “Jackie,” who was lured by “Drew,” who turned out to be “Haven Monahan,” who turned out to be a made-up person, who led “Jackie” into a room at a party held by Phi Kappa Psi, where she was attacked.

The problem was, again, a) “Haven Monahan” doesn’t exist; b) the fraternity in question didn’t have a party that night; and c) the writer of the Rolling Stone piece on UVA, Sabrina Rubin Erdely didn’t even contact the alleged attackers. The latter was the first red flag.

Second, was the fact that Erdely didn’t even contact “Jackie’s” friends that Poynter noted “includes scenes with verbatim dialogue attributed to them.” Poynter listed The Rolling Stone story as the Error of the Year. The Columbia School Of Journalism listed the magazine’s UVA story as the winner of the 2014’s media-fail sweepstakes, adding in their brutal analysis of the piece that it was a preventable failure.

The media fawns over Obama’s lies because he’s, a liberal and he’s black. I will grant that his language skills are better than the new liar about to take over the Oval Office, the President-Elect  whom the MSM excoriates at every opportunity. When such opportunities don’t arise, which given Trump’s massive ego, tweet addiction and big mouth, seldom happens, they just make stuff up.

Ben Shapiro: Yes, Crony Capitalism Is Bad Whether It’s Obama Or Trump

It’s not a triumph for America when bad policy sets bad precedent. And it’s not a triumph for conservatives when such policy is integrated into the Republican Party playbook. Stamping a big T where a big O used to be doesn’t make crappy policy decent.

So far as I know it’s hypocrisy when you cheer something when your side does it that you panned when the other side did. The whole idea that manufacturing jobs are going to come back to what they once were is just as Unicornish and Rainbowish when the right says it as it was when Obama did. Grow up America!

I Served With James Mattis. Here’s What I Learned From Him

America knows Gen. James Mattis as a character, Mad Dog Mattis, the font of funny quotes and Chuck Norris-caliber memes. Those of us who served with him know that he is a caring, erudite, warfighting general. We also know that there is a reason he uses the call-sign Chaos: he is a lifelong student of his profession, a devotee of maneuver warfare and Sun Tzu, the sort of guy who wants to win without fighting—to cause chaos among those he would oppose.

To Marines, he is the finest of our tribal elders. The rest of the world, very soon, will know how truly gifted he is. Our friends and allies will be happy he is our new secretary of war; our enemies will soon wish he weren’t.

I worked for Mattis three times: when he was a colonel, a major general, and a lieutenant general. I very much want to work for him again.

Stephen Kruiser: Virginia School System Considers Banning ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ and ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’

Two classic American novels have been temporarily pulled from book shelves in Accomack County Public Schools.

Superintendent Warren Holland confirmed to 10 On Your Side that a parent filed a complaint about “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”

Earlier this month, a parent voiced concerns to the school board about racial slurs in both of the novels.

You read that right: “a” parent complained.

All because she is incapable of teaching her child the meaning of context. Because of one parent’s failure, the superintendent will deprive school kids of the ability to study two of the most seminal accomplishments in American literature, both of which are snapshots of the racial attitudes of the country at the time and double as history lessons.

  2. mcnorman Says:

I hear the weather is going to get really cold in a few days. Stay warm friends. I’m in the southwest and we won’t get that Alaskan flow. I’m grateful. Last time it happened, I had to go to the neighboring state for plumbing supplies when pipes burst all over the city.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

It is “cold” here today. Below freezing and our heated birdbath is all ready for that so our critter friends will have fresh water to splash out on the ground, freeze and make refilling it hazardous.

States like Wisconsin are used to cold weather so most should be prepared. I say that who sees people every year driving as if they had never seen snow before.

Speaking of snow, supposed to get a few flakes tomorrow which often means lake effect takes over and dumps a load on us. It happens and the snow shovels are ready by the front and back doors as well as buckets of ice melt. Be prepared isn’t just for Boy Scouts.

But thanks for the kind thoughts mcNorman, those are always appreciated. Are you in an area badly affected by the droughts so prevalent across the lower 1/2 of the country?

Wherever any of our friends are, stay safe.

And prayers for those in the south where fires rage on. Not surprisingly not reported much by our crack media that is far more interested in Trump’s latest tweet.
