It’s Official, And Officially Adorable *Weekend Open Thread*

Well, it is done. We have a new President, Donald J. Trump, our 45th. Despite it all, it was a successful, and peaceful, handing over of power, a hallmark of our Nation and our Republic. That is something for which to be grateful no matter which candidate one supported. The Nation carries on, and that is a comfort, or should be, to all. That is how our Nation rolls, and that is something for which to be grateful.

As this is the Weekend Open Thread, I am also grateful for a chance to have a departure from the incessant week of Politics, Politics, Politics to which we have been subjected. That is the case both from the perspective of what Obama was doing as he was going out the door, as well as the Hearings for Cabinet members, and all of the Inauguration hoopla. It is done now, thank heavens.

So now, we can concentrate, at least for a couple of days, on some major cuteness. First up is a mini-mini-horse, as in a baby mini-horse. Now, that portends major cuteness just in thinking about it, doesn’t it? A baby mini-horse? Well, check out the real thing chasing its human around (h/t

How stinkin’ cute is THAT? I think the little baby enjoys hearing its hooves strike the floor as much as I do! So, so cute.

Recently, a friend of mine mentioned that he didn’t realize that horses like to play. Oh, do they ever. Check out this very high end Dressage horse as he takes a break from his training (h/t

That is one handsome boy, isn’t he? And what a high-ol’ time he is having!

It just does my heart good to see these horses – big and small – as they play and just enjoy life.

But it isn’t just these adorable creatures that warm my heart. Check out this adorable little girl as she experiences her very first rainfall, from Huffington Post Good News:

How precious is that little girl?? What a reminder of how the simple things can be so joyful if we open ourselves up to it. Hearing this little girl, haring her mother, seeing the sheer joy and delight of experiencing the beauty of nature, is just heartwarming.

The HuffPo article also had this powerful, moving video of a young woman hearing sound for the first time:

This just moved me to tears. What a moment this must have been for her. It is hard to even imagine what a life-changing event that would be. Powerful, just powerful, and what a gift – to her, for sure, as she is able to hear for the first time. But it is a gift to us as well to remind us how blessed we are to live in a time where such medical advancements are being made. Just amazing.

And we are blessed. We are blessed to live in a nation in which every four years, we have an orderly transfer (or maintenance) of power by one Party or another. We are blessed for the freedoms we have, for living in a country that affords us so many freedoms.

We are blessed on an even larger scale to live in a world in which horses play, and little children experience a natural event with glee and joy that many of us have long forgotten. It is always good to be reminded of the simple things that bring us joy – animals, nature, the laugh of a loved one, and the peace of a quiet moment.

And we are blessed to have people who make us laugh. One such person is Kathleen Madigan, one of my favorite comedians. She has a new show out called, “Bothering Jesus.” Since this is the weekend, this clip, which explains the name, seems most appropriate to me:

How funny was that? You know I was thinking of my Catholic friends when I first heard this. Just cracked me up. I hope it did you, too!

I wish all of those things for you this weekend – laughter, peace, joy, and love – as we take a break from the world of Politics and the goings-on of the past week.

That’s it for me. What brings you joy? What moves you? What brings you peace, or laughter? Feel free to share any and all in the Comments. This is the Weekend Open Thread.

Always good to get a respite from politics. Although honestly I wasn’t as upset as Trump was sworn in and at his speech as I thought I would be. Maybe I’m just to tired to be upset at this point. (If that’s true – plant my butt, I’m dead.)

That mini-mini horse is so cute! Had me smiling the whole time I watched it.

The handsome dressage horse at play is wonderful too. Even good-looking boys like him like to play. And his movement – as graceful as Nureyev.

    Great post.

LOL – I totally understand. I was glad to see Trump has replaced the bust of Winston Churchill as one of his first acts!

The rioting, though, is completely out of control. That’s the “New Civics” for you…

Wasn’t that mini-mini SO CUTE?? Love that little thing!

And yes – excellent comparison of Ficcochino to Nuryev!

      Thanks, Marge!

‘There Was Nothing on TV’: Bored 94-Year-Old Tries College, Dominates With 4.0 GPA

A 94-year-old Hawaiian great-grandmother just completed another item off of her bucket list: becoming a college graduate.

Amy Craton of Honolulu received her online bachelor’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University in November of last year. And the University’s president hand delivered her diploma on January 16th because the wheelchair bound student was unable to make it to the ceremony this past May.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

      Love this!! Thanks, Marge!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

She made me realize that I still have 21 years to get my degree.

Then again, I don’t think they make “safe spaces” for loud-mouthed, opinionated, semi-conservative old ladies like me.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL – well. I would have LOVED to have someone like you in my classes at college!

Hey, these young whippersnappers could learn a thing or two from you!

😉 “Excuse me sir,” said the man to one of the stewards on an Amtrak Train, “I always get nauseous when I go on trains, so I am going to to take a heavy sleeping pill, but please do whatever you can to make sure I get off when it stops in Baltimore. I really don’t want to miss my great aunt’s funeral.”

“Sure thing!” said the steward happily, we’ll make you sure you get off!”

Six hours later the train stopped in Washington D.C. and the man jumped out of his seat in a panic, “WHAT THE HECK! I ASKED YOU TO WAKE ME UP IN BALTIMORE!”

“Oh boy! He looks mad!” Remarked the fellow behind him to his wife.

“Not half as mad as that other guy they carried off back in Baltimore.” She whispered back.

Happy New Year and Happy New America to you and all your fellow bloggers! Love ya, Rev. Amy!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

OH MY GOSH – so good to *see*, ME! I had been thinking abt you not too long ago and wondering how you were doing. So happy you dropped by!

And I wish you a Happy New Year/America, too!

A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be assured that if any mischief occurred in their town their two young sons were in some way involved.

The parents were at their wits end as to what to do about their sons’ behavior. The mother had heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so she asked her husband if he thought they should send the boys to speak with the clergyman.

The husband said, ‘We might as well. We need to do something before I really lose my temper!’ The clergyman agreed to speak with the boys, but asked to see them individually. The 8 year old went to meet with him first. The clergyman sat the boy down and asked him sternly,’Where is God?’

The boy made no response, so the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, ‘Where is God?’ Again the boy made no attempt to answer. So the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy’s face, ‘WHERE IS GOD?’

At that the boy bolted from the room and ran directly home, slamming himself in the closet. His older brother followed him into the closet and asked what had happened. The younger brother replied, ‘We are in BIG trouble this time. God is missing and they think we did it.’

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.

The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.

The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.

Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.

The little girl said, “When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah”.

The teacher asked, “What if Jonah went to hell?”

The little girl replied, “Then you ask him”.

I caught this video earlier today on the Top 20 Country Countdown. Honestly, it had me in tears:

  12. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

So abt this Women’s March thing. Apparently, it was funded by George Soros (shocking, I am sure /s):

And one of the main organizers is a woman with ties to Hamas, who supports Sharia Law. I am pretty sure that Sharia Law is completely antithetical to EVERYTHING these women were demanding yesterday as they trashed the streets and dressed vulgarly:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

It is NOT a woman’s march – it is a liberal lunatic women’s march. No pro-life women welcome. No Conservative women welcome.

Fools like foul-mouthed Madonna and Nitwits like Ashley Judd, who sees Nazis in the streets, only show us more clearly why so many of the people have no use for celebrity twits.

Turn over most nasty smelling rocks in this country and George Soros’ withered old carcass comes slithering out.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Can you believe they excluded Pro-Life Feminists and have th AUDACITY to be screaming abt “RIGHTS”? What rights ARE those, exactly, that they don’t already have??

A friend who went to the March in NYC lamented people depicting her and others as babies with pacifiers. Meanwhile, they depict Trump as both Hitler and Mussolini. But THAT is okay

And as another friend noted abt the whole baby thing, that is bad, but women putting vaginas on their heads is okay? Wow.

This is precisely why I feel the need to step back from Politics now. Not only do I not really care for being put in the position to defend Trump, like he had only been in office ONE DAY when they trashed the streets on which they marched, but it is just exhausting dealing with the ratcheted up outrage all the time. UGH.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Of all the things that disgusts me about these scummy women, and I do think they are scummy, dressing like a vagina is the worst. Not like a heart, not like a brain but like a vagina. Guess sex and peeing is all we’re good for.

I don’t like defending Trump but I will when he’s right.

No need to defend him from these cretins, they’re wrong no matter who’s in the White House.

And if they don’t like being portrayed as babies maybe they should stop acting like babies.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It just infuriates me no end that many of us, including me, marched for women to be seen as MORE than our reproductive organs, as more than sex objects, and these women are destroying decades of work to that end. It is just mind-boggling.

And their vulgarity is just disgusting.

Good point – this isn’t so much a reflection on Trump as it is these women who are acting without boundaries, decency, decorum, morality, and sense.

            LOVE the Snowflake award!

John Kass: President Trump and the Forgotten Man

He began his speech by punching the elites right in the mouth — the bipartisan Washington establishment sitting up there with him.

“For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost,” Trump said.

“Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the jobs left and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country.”

Like him or loathe him, Trump has tapped into something that most politicians can’t. Every time he smacks the elites, the media and the establishment around some people cheer. And I confess I like it too.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I gotta admit, I am glad for that, too. It is abt damn time the media and elites got some push back…

  14. kenoshamarge Says:

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That says it all, doesn’t it?

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Doesn’t it though. Cause nothing says how bad Trump is like those protesting him breaking windows and setting things on fire. Good Grief!

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No kidding, huh? All the destruction and rioting to protest a man who is brand spanking new to the office? It is idiotic.

And it gives a LOT of credence to the whole “New Civics” claim by the National Association of Scholars.:

          • kenoshamarge Says:

This simply tells us what we were sure was happening.

“New Civics” redefines civics as progressive political activism. Rooted in the radical program of the 1960s’ New Left, the New Civics presents itself as an up-to-date version of volunteerism and good works. Though camouflaged with soft rhetoric, the New Civics, properly understood, is an effort to repurpose higher education.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, it sure does, doesn’t it? That is exactly what they have been doing, and why our students care far more abt protesting, anti-Americanism, and FEELINGS. Ugh.

The NAS has done all kinds of studies on this – and it is a nonpartisan organization, btw.

  15. kenoshamarge Says:

Just as the “New Civics” is nothing of the sort, feminism is nothing of the sort. The feminism of today is simply liberal females screeching ugly, evil ,progressive memes.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Boy, you said it. That is SO what they are doing. Their “demands” are ludicrous – nothing has been taking from women. Nothing! They are nothing more than pawns. Do they really think their wearing “lady parts” is going to make them look at ALL credible? REALLY? Wow.

  16. kenoshamarge Says:

Oh and by the way, at half time my Packers are getting whomped!

  17. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I’m sorry, but did anyone REALLY think Trump was going to change his stripes after he got into office? If so, they were not paying any attention at all:

That said, this criticism of Trump still campaigning is laughable considering how Obama continued to campaign for years.

But yeah, if they thought Trump was going to stop acting the way he does, they were deluding themselves.
