🚫 When Trust Is Lost 🚫 Open Thread

There is a serious lack of trust in this country. A lack of trust that is sadly, well deserved.

A majority of citizens don’t trust their government. A large majority don’t trust the media. Most don’t trust other citizens if they don’t think like they do. Unity isn’t possible if there is no trust.

There is ample reason for this lack of trust. Our government has failed us repeatedly. Those elected to “represent” us are venal, dishonest and in far too many cases, incompetent.

We know that they often vote on things of which they not only don’t have the needed knowledge but haven’t even bothered to read. That’s for all those unelected little “aide” people. Doesn’t it make you feel secure to know that the experts who decide how to vote are people hired by the person you elected but is now too busy worrying about getting re-elected to do their damn job?

Many elected officials have no more knowledge of issues they vote on than does the man in the street. That’s just sad because all too often the man in the street, having been ill informed or deliberately not informed, doesn’t know squat.

Either way, from the left or the right they do little except take our money and spend it foolishly or with malice aforethought on things that will not only not help us but will harm us. Then they babble on about how they work for us. Baloney!

The left blames the right, the right blames the left and on and on it goes. Most politicians promise that if elected they will work to heal the divide. They lie. A united citizenry would throw their sorry, incompetent, dishonest butts out of office.

In a way Trump’s inauguration speech was kind of refreshing when  he didn’t promise that. In fact according to Bob Schieffer: Trump ‘took the hide off everybody sitting on that platform’.  Scheiffer also noted that Trump called out both party establishments in attendance. And that’s wrong because?

Meanwhile idiots at MSNBC, Tingles Matthews and Rachel Maddow heard Hitler in his speech. Because Hitler of course always insisted on “America First.” It was a dark Hitlerian speech.

Cartoon by A.F.Branco - Blinded By The Dark

Trump did not walk to the microphone in front of the Capitol to salve wounds or mend hurt feelings. There were no calls for unity or attempts to bridge the political divide. After being sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, Trump issued a call to arms and declared war on the ruling class.

Media and politicians will clutch their pearls and exhibit faux outrage that Trump didn’t promise to work across the aisle. The people that voted for Trump will like what he said. His whole speech was an homage to them. Was it sincere? Was he telling the truth? We don’t know. We will see in time what he meant and if he meant it.

What is certain is that the elites and establishment and media that has attacked and continues to attack him will not find him cowering in a corner as most Republicans usually do. I don’t like the man but I do like that. Do I trust him? Not a bit. I am however willing to give credit where and when credit is due.

He basically served notice that if it was up to him the elites time in the sun was over. The problem with that is, can you trust him anymore than all the other political liars? Trump isn’t exactly a model of verisimilitude.

You have to be amused at all the politicians and media types that are up in arms over the fact that Donald Trump tells lies. They all lie. Every damn day. The hypocrisy of people who lie for a living, liberal media and politicians, having the chutzpah to talk about someone else lying is incredible.

The end result of all this lying is that nobody trusts any of them. It appears however that a lot of citizens, millions of them, are willing to trust Trump. Some are willing to see if he can be trusted and some are so besotted they won’t care. Either way, things are no longer the status quo.

The besotted Trump supporters are no better or different than the besotted Obama supporters or the members of the Cruz cult that are still whining about the GOP primary. None of them trust anyone but their hero and then they trust without any reason to do so.

It’s distasteful to see adults acting like love-sick teenagers. Teenagers may or may not grow out of their silliness, people who are infatuated with of all things some politician probably will not. They may in time switch their ardent support to someone else but they chose to grow older instead of growing up. Don’t ever trust these people.

Because we cannot trust the educrats to instruct our children how to think instead of indoctrinating them in what to think we cannot trust our population to know the things they need to know to make intelligent decisions. And so the lack of trust spreads. When if ever it will get better I haven’t a clue. Anyone that tells you they know is lying, don’t trust them.

I don’t think its hopeless. But I do think hopelessness is getting damn close.

I pray every day that God will smite the evildoers and raise up the righteous. No prayer is ever wasted but I suspect that God expects us to do this for ourselves.

CBS This Morning: Sources Are Telling Us A Leading SCOTUS Candidate Has Emerged To Fill Scalia Vacancy

SCOTUS watch kicked off on CBS Saturday, with Jan Crawford saying that her sources are telling her that a leading candidate has emerged from President Trump’s solid list of judicial candidates to fill the vacancy left by the late Justice Antonin Scalia: Judge Neil Gorsuch of the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.

Sure will be interesting to see how this turns out, won’t it? No doubt, the Dems will play Obstructionists but claim that is not what they are doing, and their followers will believe them…

video of senators Cassidy and Collins propose alternative affordable health care act

    it is a beginning

It is probably best if the health insurance is changed little by little. perhaps 3 or 4, or more, bills instead of one giant one that no one can read or understand.

A start is a good thing. But media will continue to say the GOP has nothing to replace ObamaCare with and that people will be dying in the streets. Same old crap.

Great post, Marge. Thank you for this.

The incomparable Mollie Hemingway appeared on a Sunday talk show yesterday and explained how the media refusing to go after Obama and all of his lies has completely lost credibility on that front with Trump: http://thefederalist.com/2017/01/22/hemingway-medias-refusal-vet-obama-administration-kills-credibility-trump-administration/

Holy moley – I cannot believe NBC did this, but it is the right thing to do considering what this writer said abt Barron Trump after the Inauguration: http://www.dailywire.com/news/12698/snl-writer-suspended-indefinitely-viciously-michael-qazvini

And check out these Executive Orders Trump has signed (though Suzy raised the question if he can really suspend a Trade deal). I have to say, suspending hiring for non-military gov’t personnel and funding foreign organizations that provide abortions is something: http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/315654-trump-signs-orders-on-tpp-abortion-federal-hiring-freeze

Turns out that TPP was NOT approved by Congress, which is why Trump could drop-kick it: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/23/us/politics/tpp-trump-trade-nafta.html?_r=0

Over the RS the professional Trump haters are saying he didn’t do anything because this wasn’t approved by Congress. But it did, as you say end any thought of it.

His freeze on hiring also can work to shrink government a little since there will always be people retiring and if they are not replaced there will be fewer government employees which will lead inevitably to a smaller government. Again the people with TDS argue this means nothing.

Many of them are still whining about what Trump did to Cruz during the primary. At least the libs are whining about the general.

Do I like Trump now? No. But I do like some of the things he’s done.

The whole size of the crowd thing is silly. But that’s just Trump being Trump. In many ways he’s a silly man.

Kellyanne Conway Neuters Chuck Todd: ‘Not Your Job to Give Opinions, Chuck!’

Chuck Todd, host of NBC’s Meet the Press, a once highly respected political news program when it was hosted by the late, great Tim Russert, got his rear end handed to him by Kellyanne Conway on Sunday, after eight years of kissing Obama’s behind.

Todd, obsessed with trying to delegitimize President Donald Trump by trying to make the case that the Trump inaugural had a smaller crowd size that Obama’s 2009 inauguration speech, repeated the same question for a full 13 minutes — why did press secretary Sean Spicer hammer the press yesterday about their crowd size reporting?

Kellyanne Conway, the president’s former campaign and now “counselor to the president,” answered Todd’s question but not in the way he was looking for. In the clip below, you can watch Conway effectively neutering Todd by pointing out that he’s not supposed to be an opinion journalist after Todd called Spicer’s first act as press secretary “ridiculous.”

I am not a big Kellyanne Conway fan. But she was right in this instance. And the one that seemed to be obsessed with crowd size was Todd.

David Harsanyi: It’s Not The State’s Job To Pay For Your Art Hobby — Or Your TV Shows

The Hill reports that the Trump administration is considering “dramatic” cuts to the budget — and aren’t they all — which includes defunding the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The latter would be privatized.

I’m skeptical. But, as with the mention of any minor reduction in spending, we can expect the hyperbolic reactions and baffling arguments.

In any event, though conservatives have traditionally been more annoyed by the NEA for funding hackneyed political statements that pose as art, they should not forget PBS. It takes in $445 million in taxpayer dollars each year so that millions of upper-middle-class Americans can watch “Masterpiece Theatre” without having to pollute their eyeballs with a fast food or car commercial.

Another thing I hope Trump does. Why should taxpayers subsidize the “arts”. And PBS can go away or have commercials for all I care. There will be a way for us to get that programming one way or another.

Generally, I don’t like NPR, but two yesterday: One, about Victoria, the other, about Henry VIII’s wives. Did you guys catch either?

      • kenoshamarge Says:

This is the 2nd episode of the one on Victoria and I am loving it. I am a fool for historical stuff. Still I wonder how accurate this portrayal of Victoria really is. So I am doing a little research as it goes along.

I added the one about Henry the VIII’s wives to my list but haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. I always save a “treat” or two for myself for Saturday when there isn’t much else on.

I love the Historical stuff coming out of England and watch much of the programming. I was a Downton Abbey addict.

I wouldn’t bother with any of PBS’s “news” programs since they are so biased.

I am perfectly fine with commercials on PBS. I am not perfectly fine with taxpayers paying for subsidize it.

It isn’t the job, IMO, of the government to fund the “Arts”.
