Rachel Maddow is reportedly a very smart woman. She holds a doctorate in politics from the University of Oxford. She is a Rhodes Scholar which is certainly an achievement that tends to prove that she has a better than average IQ. If so that intellect took a back seat to her ideology last week when she promised a bombshell, although to be fair she didn’t use those words, and delivered a fizzle.
Maddow delivered a punch to herself that her many detractors could only have dreamed of delivering. She fizzled on live television and the egg on her face will never completely go away.
Maddow let her rabid hatred of Trump get ahead of her intellect and common sense thereby made a laughing stock of herself on national television. People can forgive you for being wrong. When you make yourself and their cause a laughing stock, perhaps that is not so forgivable. Especially by those who expected more of you.
For those who dislike her, I am among them, her stupid decision was a gift. Many years ago, when I still considered myself a Democrat I listened to Maddow on Air America. She was too far left for me so I stopped listening long before Air America fell apart and departed the airwaves.
However two of it’s “stars” not only survived, they thrived. Al Franken went on to become Minnesota’s Senator and Maddow got her own nationally televised show. She is often a guest on late night programs. She has, arrived. Now she has, with this stupid decision, given all of those who disliked her a chance to not only take potshots at her rabid left beliefs but at her.
Maddow, having made an absolute ass of herself then decided it would be a good idea to blame, not herself, but her viewers.
Maddow lashed out to the Associated Press (AP), stating, “Because I have information about the president doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily a scandal. If other people leapt to that conclusion without me indicating that it was, that hype is external to what we did.”
This is revisionist history. Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro noted that “the buildup was immense” to Maddow’s big reveal, since she was the one that hyped the tax returns on Twitter and began her show “with one of her patented, long-winded wind-ups” before revealing that Trump paid millions of dollars in taxes.
Not a great decision Rachel. An apology, a short mea culpa and move on. Do not – ever – blame your viewers. It is dumb. Fortunately many won’t know because they aren’t very informed. That you made a fool of yourself is something even the uninformed now know.
Michael Goodwin:Rachel Maddow’s Trump ‘bombshell’ completely backfired
Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you. Then there’s Rachel Maddow, who stuck her head in the bear’s mouth while talking trash. Chomp!
It wouldn’t be fair to call her Tuesday night show the TV flop seen ’round the world. It was worse than that. Much worse.
It was a gut-punch embarrassment to Maddow, to MSNBC, to NBC and to all the lefties who bought her afternoon tweet that “We’ve got Trump tax returns.” Were she selling stocks, she’d be busted for running a pump-and-dump scam.
Cartoonists and columnists had a wonderful time making fun of her. And they made fun of her station which must have made them very happy. MSNBC often fights for viewers and Maddow’s tweet about her having “Trump’s Tax Returns” no doubt garnered more viewers than usual for her show. In this case that was not a good thing.
Cartoonists both left and right excoriated her. Nate Beeler among them.
Conservative Review was factual if not kind:
A.F. Branco far from kind:
And so it went:
Katie Pavlich and others had a different take on the whole debacle:
Maddow’s first clue was the limited number of pages of a single return released. If someone with malicious intent or even someone who believes the public has a right know, really wanted to make a difference by exposing Trump’s tax returns, they would have leaked at least ten years and dozens of pages. After all, unauthorized release of tax returns is a felony. Why risk federal prison for two pages?
More likely? Someone close to Trump, either at the White House or through his business, placed the return in the mailbox as a lure.
Blinded by her hatred for Trump and Russian derangement, Maddow failed to slow down, take a breathe and think about the information in her possession. She not only embarrassed herself, but the left as a whole.
Pavlich could well be right. I don’t know what to think. But I “think” it’s hilarious that people that insist Trump and his administration are too dumb to tie their own shoes are now screeching about this “troll” of Maddow. Not to mention the MSM. Also the Twittidiots.
And to add insult to injury there was this:
On “America’s News HQ”, Geraldo Rivera said Maddow had her own “Al Capone’s vault” moment. That’s gotta sting.
