Talk About Your “Secrets And Lies” *Open Thread*

by

Well, this has sure been a week, hasn’t it? There is the hearing for the new SCOTUS member, Neil Gorsuch, and tons of brouhaha over the new healthcare plan. Meanwhile, FBI Director Comey also testified this week and implied that Trump was full of hooey over his claim of Trump Tower being under surveillance.

Curious Comey’s clear disdain was, as if anything like that could EVER happen (uh, yeah  just ask Mike Flynn about that). Not for nothing, but Comey might just want to watch all that disdain and condescension. A recent poll demonstrated that Comey is disliked in a BIG fashion on both sides of the aisle, and I would say, deservedly so. From The Hill:

[…]

Forty-one percent of Democrats have an unfavorable view of Comey, with only 12 percent saying they view him positively.

Comey is almost at break-even among Republicans, with 26 percent viewing him positively and 27 percent viewing him negatively.

That could change for the worse, as the Harvard-Harris Poll survey was conducted prior Comey’s testimony on Monday before the House Intelligence Committee that frustrated many Republicans. Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) lamented that Comey had cast “a big, gray cloud” over the Trump administration. (Click here to read the rest.)

Uh, yeah. I am thinking Comey has descended even further in many people’s estimations after his performance this week.

Here’s the thing: eventually, one way or the other, truth wills out. Politicians can dissemble, deny, ignore, and flat out lie about things, but when you are talking about the US Government, and ALL the people who are involved in it, eventually, truth will out.Thankfully, that is.

And as it turns out, it seems Trump’s team WAS caught up in surveillance by US Intelligence agencies. Oopsie daisy. And that isn’t all. The Hill has the coverage:

The U.S. intelligence community incidentally collected information on members of President Trump’s transition team and the information was “widely disseminated” in intelligence reports, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said Wednesday.

“I recently confirmed that on numerous occasions, the intelligence community collected information on U.S. individuals involved in the Trump transition,” Nunes told reporters.

“Details about U.S. persons involved in the incoming administration with little or no apparent foreign intelligence value were widely disseminated in intelligence community reports.”

The information was “legally brought to him by sources who thought we should know it,” Nunes said, though he provided little detail on the source.

Nunes also said that “additional names” of Trump transition officials had been unmasked in the intelligence reports. He indicated that Trump’s communications may have been swept up.

Nunes said he had viewed dozens of documents showing that the information had been incidentally collected. He said that he believes the information was legally collected. […](Click here to read the rest.)

Kinda makes you wonder just how, exactly, all of that “collection” happened, doesn’t it? I mean, just WHO were they surveilling that enabled them to, directly or indirectly, get intelligence on Trump’s team and possibly Trump himself? I’m sorry, but there’s something hinky going on there.

Just who ordered it seems to be a question Rep. Nunes had, too. He gave an extensive press conference yesterday on all of these findings (h/t The Right Scoop for the heads up):

Holy moly – this is big, people. BIG.

If you want to watch another one of his press conferences with commentary about what Nunes said, you can click HERE.

Not for nothing, but this revelation does seem to make Comey out to be a bit of a liar, doesn’t it? Shocking, I know. I mean, I could be wrong, but it does seem justs a tad suspicious.

Speaking of liars (besides Comey), one of the most proven liars from the Obama Administration, Susan Rice, is making waves this week. Why? Because the woman who went on FIVE different Sunday morning shows saying the same thing over and over and over again – that Benghazi was the result of a video no one had seen is now lecturing Trump and the White House on telling the truth. I kid you not. National Security Advisor Rice wrote an Op-Ed for the Washington Post doing just that (h/t Townhall). The headline alone is HYSTERICAL: “When the White House Twists The Truth, We Are All Less Safe.

I’ll give you a moment to stop laughing. And my apologies if you happened to be drinking anything at the time that ended up on the screen.

Okay, here we go, a lecture on truth-telling from Pinocchio herself, Susan Rice:

The foundation of the United States’ unrivaled global leadership rests only in part on our military might, the strength of our economy and the power of our ideals. It is also grounded in the perception that the United States is steady, rational and fact-based. To lead effectively, the United States must maintain respect and trust. So, when a White House deliberately dissembles and serially contorts the facts, its actions pose a serious risk to America’s global leadership, among friends and adversaries alike.

Oh, God. I am not sure how much more of this I am going to be able to take from Ms. Rice.

Wait, are we being punk’d or something? Where are the cameras? No? This is for real? Wow.

Here’s a bit more:

For the United States to mobilize collective action, other nations must accept the validity of our facts and the seriousness of the challenge. Often, U.S. requests are costly and politically difficult for other nations to heed. They do so only when convinced that the cause we champion is legitimate and that their interests are served by publicly aligning with the United States. Thus, should America someday determine that Iran is violating the nuclear accord, we may struggle to convince other nations to re-impose sanctions if they doubt our intentions or the evidence we present.

[…]

Finally, many Americans, not just the broader world, recoil in anxiety and confusion when a U.S. administration fosters counterfactual assertions and projects unpredictability. When the American people question the commander in chief’s statements, his ability to harness public support to confront a national crisis is undermined. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Good God Almighty. Is she kidding with this? Does she think all videos, news reports, and Congressional hearings have vaporized in the few months since Trump was elected? I mean, I know Americans can have short attention spans, but this is really pushing that envelope, isn’t it?

It’s all “Secrets and Lies,” isn’t it? So it seems. I think Jonatha Brooke’s piece by that title says it all:

That’s it for me. If you are done laughing at Susan Rice now, I’d love to hear your thoughts as always.

Secrets and lies are not only part of Washington D.C. they are, IMHO, an epidemic.

The sheer hypocrisy of Susan Rice having the chutzpah and hypocrisy to write: “When the White House Twists The Truth, We Are All Less Safe”, left me momentarily speechless. (Not to worry, I quickly recovered.)

    Great topic and post Amy!

Thanks, Marge – I appreciate it!

Oh, you ain’t only kidding abt Rice. Her hypcorisy is matched only by Nancy Pelosi who is now out there spewing abt how people need to see what’s in the health care bill before they pass it, that it can’t be made up behind closed doors, etc., etc. IOW, ALL the things she and the Dems did to the nation.

Honestly, how in the WORLD do these people not get laughed off the stage? Boggles the mind…

Dems Seek Gorsuch Vote Delay on Last Day of Nominee’s Testimony

WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee ended two days of questioning U.S. Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch with Democrats expressing frustration over his lack of candor and Republicans exhibiting confidence that he will assume the seat vacated by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia more than 13 months ago.

Republicans, who maintain a four-seat majority in the upper chamber, also vowed to push ahead with Gorsuch’s confirmation despite calls from Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, of New York, and others to delay consideration.

Democrats want to postpone the vote as a result of revelations that the FBI is investigating Russian interference in the presidential campaign that resulted in the election of Donald Trump, the man who nominated Gorsuch to fill the seat. Schumer said proceeding while federal law enforcement authorities are moving ahead with a probe could prove “unseemly” while “this big gray cloud of an FBI investigation hangs over the presidency.”

Funny how they weren’t concerned about a “big gray cloud of an FBI investigation” hanging over Hillary when they nominated her for the office. Hypocrisy isn’t only alive and well in Washington D.C., it’s a full blown epidemic!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, for heavens sake. That is just stupid. What in the hell is WRONG with these people? Do they not get that it is PRECISELY this kind of crap that is why they are the minority party in every regard? Sheesh.

Here are the five basic steps to get a Supreme Court justice confirmed

    1. Referral to the Judiciary Committee

    2. Pre-hearing research

    3. Confirmation hearing

    4. Committee vote

The committee votes on whether to approve the nominee and then “reports” its “recommendation” to the full Senate.

    5. Full Senate vote

The full Senate vote is where things could get dicey for Republicans.
Democrats can force Republicans to gather 60 votes in the Senate before the nominee is confirmed. There are 52 Republicans in the Senate.

That means Democrats can effectively block — or “filibuster” — the
confirmation if fewer than eight Democrats support Trump’s pick for the high court.

My Senator, Graham, is not my fave, but he has made some very good points abt his voting for Sotomayer and Kagen, and why the Dems should be voting for Gorsuch. Never mind that Gorsuch is a brilliant legal mind, but it is standard for the Pres. to get his pick through, assuming they are worthy of the job.

Jonathan Turley sure thinks he is, and he is definitely a liberal. But he is a reasonable, rational liberal, so there is that. Oh, and a great legal mind:

      • kenoshamarge Says:

There are many things about which I do not agree with Jonathan Turley. But he is fair and he is certainly no liberal loon. You often wonder how sane liberals like Turley feel seeing an asshat like Franken questioning men like Gorsuch.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, no kidding, huh? He must just shake his head at their antics.

And I know exactly what you mean – I don’t agree with him on everything, ether. But I thought it was telling in a MASSIVE fashion that he went before Congress and told them that what Obama was doing with his EO’s was putting this nation at a “Constitutional tipping point.” WOW.

So yeah, I am sure he just shakes his head at these people…

The problems seen in D.C. could be the result of dementia, bad / too many drugs legal and illegal, alcohol rubbing and distilled, and just plain stupidity of the representative and the people who voted for them.

  7. kenoshamarge Says:

Evidently Trump is now having a temper tantrum and says if the GOP doesn’t accept the crappy bill then he’ll just leave Obamacare in place. SMH. This is “very Bad Trump.” Actually it’s very bad behavior for anyone over the age of 3.
