When ever you need a good quote about important things you can never going wrong with old “Honest” Abe. Funny scary isn’t it that honesty is in such short supply that a label was needed specifically for this honest man. A good man. Not a perfect man but one of the best we’ve ever produced in this country. A man worthy of respect.
How many politicians are worthy of respect in 2017? A handful? Certainly no more than that. Most are pathetic posers who care about nothing except the next election. Many are uninformed and more than a little stupid and a few are a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Then there are the Senior Citizens who will not go quietly into the night and write their memoirs or spend more time with their family.
Is there a doubt in anyone’s mind that Maxine Waters exemplifies the worst of us?
If we admit, or think, that these elected people who purport to represent us are so bad, then why are they still in office? How did they get there in the first place?
We elected them. We put them there. And many, no matter how stupid, corrupt, nutty or uninformed remain in office for years. Decades. A generation. Why would we do that to ourselves?
So as not to be thought racist I also bring up the crazy lady representing the 3rd district of Connecticut, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro. She’s been slurping at the public trough in the House since 1990.
She likes to accuse Republicans of being cruel and heartless, as so many liberals do. Her latest rant in speaking about Trumpcare was “What does the GOP stand for? Get Old People. That’s what this bill does.” Because the first thing the GOP wants to do is anger the millions of “old people” who are one of the largest voting blocks in the country. Even they aren’t that stupid.
We put them in office. Some of us did it thinking the person we were voting for just might, against all odds, actually keep some of their promises. Some simply vote a party line without having any idea what that party really stands for. Others vote for name recognition.
Few, very few, actually do the work necessary to find out all they can about a person who could have a very large impact on their life. Too busy tweeting about airlines and the horror of being denied the right to wear leggings I guess.
Until enough people wise up, stop believing lies from politicians and the media we will not get better representation. We will get what we vote for and therefore what we deserve.
That also includes the self-righteous who pat themselves on the back for not voting because the politicians are all bad. What’s so great about not participating? Didn’t vote? Then STHU!
They are a part of the problem because they sure aren’t a part of the solution. They vote present.
Do they think the politicians care how few people vote so long as they get a majority of that vote? DeBlasio in New York City was elected by a majority of the only 25% that bothered to vote.
Doubtless some of those non voters pat themselves on the back because they didn’t vote for the buffoonish crook. Sadly it wouldn’t have taken a lot of people to vote against him and that could have made a big difference.
Instead he’s the Mayor of a major U.S. and he could care less if voters stayed home because they didn’t like their choices. He won and that’s all he cared about.
This old fool was VP of the United States of America for 8 years. He said so many stupid and crazy and ignorant things it’s difficult to keep track of them all. And the media watchdogs? They just laugh and call him Crazy Uncle Joe. I didn’t find him funny.
House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi has also said more than her share of crazy/stupid things. She continues to represent California’s 12th congressional district at 77 years of age and after having been house Majority Leader and nearly destroying her party was elected as Minority Leader. She’s not the only stupid/crazy one.
And then to prove to my satisfaction that voters are as bad as those they elect we now have Donald J. Trump sitting in the White House.
I can not imagine the damage that Hillary, following Obama would have done. What damage this man will do is yet to be seen. Somehow knowing that we have gone from George Washington to Abe Lincoln to this – is beyond sad.
Still today is a bright new day and there is always the chance that something good will happen. We have our friends and our loved ones to make the days better. And we can always pray for a better future.
