Trump ➖ Left and Right ➖ Open Thread

There is no doubt that Donald Trump, now President Donald Trump is viewed differently from the left and the right.

On the right about 22% of the voters think he can do NO wrong.

On the left about 80% think he can do NO right.

Some of us have mixed feelings and do the rational thing – applaud when he does something we think is good and boo when he does something we think is bad. Sadly many of our fellow citizens refuse to grow up and act like adults.

They prefer to whine, complain and continue temper tantrums that are way past boring.

Sadly among the tiresome and repetitious are the #NeverTrumpumpkins who simply cannot get over the fact that Cruz lost any more than the crybaby Hillary supporters can. I thought better of them. I was wrong.

In the meantime let us take a look at how Trump is represent by the cartoonists – both left and right.

Gary Varvel is in the group that I think is rational. He calls balls and strikes as he sees them. The cartoon below is a prime example.

Cartoonist Dave Granlund, who is very lefty sees things much the same as Varvel in this instance.

His reality is usually connected to drawing negative Trump. Have yet to see a positive Trump drawn by him and I don’t expect I ever will.

Cartoonist Jimmy Margulies never saw anyone on the right do anything right. He is a true liberal believer.

Margulies’ cartoons always skewer Trump. Sometimes he has a point and his skewering is fair, after all Trump gives him and his ilk so many great opportunities. Other times, he’s just being petty and negative. But that’s just my opinion.

Dana Summers is another cartoonist that in my opinion calls things as he sees them – not as he wants them to be. Therefore his cartoons are fair and balanced. What a concept. I thought the one below made his point very well.

Rabid lefty Mike Luckovich almost always portrays Trump as stupid, lazy, ignorant or evil. For him there is no rational thought. It’s all negative and for that reason I seldom post his cartoons.

Lefty cartoonists like John R. Rose also like to point out as often as possible that Trump is among the least popular presidents in history. They are also obsessed with his hair. To be fair so are many on the right. The hair and the small hands.

Note to cartoonists – that shtick is getting very old. Find a new one.

On the other hand this cartoon by Paul Fell seems fair to me. I don’t mind snarky when it’s fair. I just dislike the petty when it isn’t and I reject the Nazi images without a second thought. That’s not petty, that’s disgusting and an insult to those that suffered under the Nazis.

Cartoon by Paul Fell - Great Wall

Tom Curry’s cartoon about Trump’s first hundred days is also fail. When you make big promises and don’t keep them – you get fairly skewered. The difference is that Dem politicians don’t often get the same treatment.

Cartoon by Tom Curry - First 100 Days

Nick Anderson points out a truth we all can see for ourselves. The fact that they didn’t find Obama as “cartoonish” perhaps illustrates that they, like their brethren in the rest of media, have a bias.

I think that cartoonist Patrick Chappatte intended the cartoon below, that appeared in the NYT, to be negative. However a majority of the people in this country approved of Trump’s action so it would appear that the cartoonist and the NYTs are both out of sync.

Rabid lefty cartoonist Adam Zyglis is obsessed with Trump’s tax returns. Seems to me, and I’m not all that smart, if there was something wrong with them the IRS would be leaking crap like all the rest of the government has been doing. And funny that none of the lefty media, and that includes the cartoonists, weren’t at all interested in the sealing of Obama’s college transcripts.

Jerry Holbert, who is not a Trump fan drew the cartoon below. I’m not sure if he intended it to be negative or positive but since it portray Krazy Kim in a funeral urn, I’m going for positive.

Political Cartoons by Jerry Holbert

This cartoon from the brilliant Henry Payne shows the air being let out of the left’s favorite Boris and Natasha conspiracy meme.  He shows so clearly where the Russian spy crap is going.

Not that the left still won’t try to re-inflate the issue, because they will.  They never let go of a lie because they know, from experience, that if they keep telling it long enough that some ignorant and ill informed people will believe. Since most of their base remains, thanks to our education system, ignorant and ill informed – they never really lose no matter how big the lie.

I saved this cartoon from Gatis Sluka for last because it speaks to all of us. Not about politics but about the times we live in and for one small moment we all agree. Deep breath and back to bickering.

Great post, Marge. You nailed it!

Marc Thiessen has a good post on the whole 100 days – the way it begins is well done:

Isn’t is amazing how just a little bit of investigating shows the hypocrisy of the NYT?

      I especially liked this part:

The first 100 days, the Times declared, is a period the president “might prefer to forget.”

The president in question is not Donald Trump. This is how, in April 1993, the Times described the first 100 days of Bill Clinton’s presidency.

But not to worry, the Times reassured its readers: “It’s still early, and a hundred days don’t really mean very much.”

The Times is right: The first 100 days really don’t mean very much at all.

        I liked this part too…

Trump has accomplished something more significant in his first 100 days than any president in recent memory has done: the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Trump’s predecessors’ early achievements were fleeting. President Barack Obama’s stimulus (with its false promise of “shovel-ready” jobs) is long forgotten. George W. Bush’s tax cuts were not signed until June and were partially repealed by his successor.

Come to think of it, I liked the whole article.

Isn’t that something? This Op-Ed was in our paper today, and I was struck with the mastery with which Thiessen laid bare the sheer hypocrisy of the NY Times. When it became clear it was about Clinton, it was one of those, “oh, SNAP!” moments.

And yes, the whole thing was good. It was also very timely to your good post. Glad you liked it!

And speaking of the Clintons… I always liked Tim Allen. I think I like him more now.

‘Clueless’ GOP wants to exempt itself from health care reform

How many times have conservatives criticized Democrats in Congress for exempting themselves from feeling the full effects of Obamacare?

Well, now Republicans in Congress have done the same thing, exempting themselves and their staff from the effects of their own proposed health insurance legislation.

The GOP’s proposed reforms to the Affordable Care Act will permit states to apply for waivers to repeal Obamacare regulations driving up the cost of premiums — regulations like the essential benefits mandates and community rating requirements. The tentative proposal is a compromise between the Freedom Caucus conservatives who want to see Obamacare fully repealed and the party moderates who want Obamacare regulations to remain in place. On the face of it, the idea is “if you can’t fix it, federalize it.”

Michelle Malkin: Muddy Maxine Waters: What a Riot

Are you freaking kidding me? Thirteen-term Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Beltway barnacle permanently affixed to USS Government, is now the fresh-faced “rock star” of the Democratic Party.

“Auntie Maxine” is stoking the resistance, inspiring millenials, combating hate, crusading against corruption and invoking the counterinsurgent cry to “stay woke!”

I do not have enough guffaws to give.

I simply do not understand how our young people could first swirl around Bernie, of ALL people, and now have turned to one of the most ignorant, idiotic people in the ENTIRE Congress (and that’s saying something). I mean, really – what is wrong with them?

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I have to say, the irony of this is just too good:

You wouldn’t know this from the MSM headlines, but this poll by the Center for Politics has a different take on how Trump supporters view Trump:

On a much lighter note, this would SO be me if I thought I could get away with it:
