👶 Indoctrinating Children ➖ Open Thread

I was born when my father was in France fighting in WW2.  Once he came home he became my hero and filled my head with stories of the war, suitably censored for my age of course. As I grew older  my fascination with all things WW2 was a near obsession.

I didn’t learn about the death camps until many years later and I was outraged that I hadn’t been told. Such evil must be known or how can it be possible to keep it from happening again? One of the many self-righteous moments in young Marge’s life.

Even with all the other horrors I learned about I was outraged at the very idea of the “Hitler Youth”.  I couldn’t imagine young people allowing themselves to be brainwashed”, a new word in our lexicon back then. How could they be a part of such evil? There were many things I couldn’t “imagine” back then.

It may be hard to understand in 2017 but for the most part we received a very good public education when I was young. Not perfect of course, nothing ever is, but we learned language, geography, history, English and civics.

I suspect most of us knew more when we graduated 8th grade than many High School grads know today. Probably more than many college students. There were no participation trophies back then. You either learned and you passed or you didn’t and you failed.

So what about the youth of today? What do they know? How are they taught? Are they being indoctrinated?

There are different ideas on how and what we should teach our children. Many say, for instance, that Common Core is good. Others think it an abomination that doesn’t’ teach children how to think. I tend to be in the second group. We want thinking children not little clones.

Leaning how to think, changing what you think as you grow and learn is all part of becoming a complete adult. Parroting talking points and the thoughts of others is part of being an adolescent. Many adolescent thinkers now inhabit adult bodies.

Young people can be annoying when they constantly question. They are far more annoying when they don’t. How else do they learn?

As they enter their teens young people tend to think they are smarter than they are. They think they know more than they know. It’s a phase we all go through. That’s part of growing up and maturing. When heads are stuffed with nonsense without a foundation of information and fact their youthful arrogance is a problem.

We see images of ISIS indoctrinating their children into violence. These images do, and should, sicken us. Indoctrination is wrong. Indoctrination that teaches violence is vile.

How do you control a people or a nation?

Distract – Deceive – Divide – Indoctrinate – Disarm

How many of those five things do we see in our daily life?

I don’t know if anyone other than people my age remember the old saying:

“As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.”

It’s a trite, but nonetheless powerful, axiom that was originated in 1734 by Alexander Pope as “Just as the twig is bent, the tree’s inclined.”

This is what the progressive “educators” have been doing to our children for more than a generation. The left worked tirelessly to gain control of education and it is now firmly in their grasp.

A look, and listen, to many college students of today should be all the proof needed by any thinking person.

Progressives are actively, vehemently against school choice. School choice not only gets children out of their clutches, it also actually educates them. Educated people will probably not be  good little progressive clones.

Teacher’s Unions insist they need ever more money “for the children”. Yet year after year these teacher’s fail our children. Liberals, as usual, tell us that throwing money at a problem  is the solution. At least for those “catching the money.

Glenn Beck provided a great service with his four part series on “Education in America.” I know many people think Glenn Beck is a nutcase. I do not. I don’t agree with him all of the time, but I think his “education” series are wonderful.

If you don’t think he knows what he’s talking about do a little research and you’ll find, as I did, that he is very careful with his facts.

Below are links to all four parts. I’ve listened to them all. They are worth the listen.

Education in America – part one

Education in America – part two

Education in America – part three

Education in America – part four

We have no more important resource than our children. Yet we have allowed their hearts and minds to be compromised. In our own publicly funded schools. We provide the funds to have our children and grandchildren indoctrinated. What kind foolishness is that?

The parents of many college students have scrimped and saved to send their children off to some university to learn to scorn all the values those parents hold dear.

We talk so much about leaving a better planet for our kids that we forget about leaving better kids to this planet. Educate your children – say NO to them once in a while.

I read the quote above somewhere and saw a lot of truth in it.  You have to be engaged, informed and focused or the progressives will turn your children into the kind of people you loathe.  If they achieve that, they will do the same to your country.

Hope you all have a good day and a great week. Be Well.

You may have noted that I didn’t mention that today is “Mayday” 2017 – there’s a reason for that. The Socialists, Communists, Unions and the left have ruined it as they have so many other things.

May Day began in the late 19th century, sharing the date with the International Workers’ Day, set up by Socialists and Communists. The goal was noble: To secure the eight-hour work day and improve horrific conditions in some factories. But the day has morphed into unions in America demanding ever-increasing wages for workers. That, in turn, has led to a move to raise minimum wages to much higher levels.

We tried to tell them – repeatedly. This is what happens when people push agendas based on emotion and ideology rather than sound principles.

I’m sorry for this young man, but I am not all surprised by this.

As for this Communist/Socialist May Day thing, wow – thousands of AT&T workers are participating?? If they were scheduled to work today, they should be fired. Sorry, but they should. If they made other people’s lives more difficult by not showing up, making other people have to pick up their slack, all while demanding more money from a capitalist company because they align themselves with Communists? Yeah. Fire them.

Daily Wire also has this great article on 8 reasons the $15 Min. Wage is a bad idea: http://www.dailywire.com/news/15932/bernie-and-democrats-are-fighting-15-again-here-zack-miley

Matthew Continetti: The Democrats’ First 100 Days

Let’s reverse angle. The president’s first 100 days in office have been analyzed, dissected, evaluated. Not much left to say about them. What about the opposition? What do the Democrats have to show for these first months of the Trump era?

Little. Trump’s defeats have not come at the Democrats’ hands. Those setbacks have been self-inflicted (over-the-top tweets, hastily written policies, few sub-cabinet nominations) or have come from the judiciary (the travel ban, the sanctuary cities order) or from Republican infighting (health care). Deregulation, Keystone pipeline, immigration enforcement—Democrats have been powerless to stop them.

Chuck Schumer slow-walked Trump’s nominations as best he could. In fact his obstruction was unprecedented. But the cabinet is filling up, the national security team in place. On the Supreme Court, Schumer miscalculated royally. He forced an end to the filibuster for judicial appointments, yet lost anyway. If another appointment opens this summer, and the Republicans hold together, the Democrats will have zero ability to prevent the Court from moving right. No matter what he says in public, Schumer can’t possibly think that a success.

Waters: Trump’s Comments on Illegal Immigration Are ‘Racist,’ ‘Dog Whistling’

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – if our young people are enamored of someone like Maxine Waters, that is all one need to say abt the state of Education in this country. Between her and Bernie, seriously, that says it all.

Sorry to be late to the party (connectivity issues). EXCELLENT post, Marge. Like you, I had an outstanding public school education, just outstanding. Once the unions got a hold of teachers, though, along with the Fed. Gov’t taking over the role of the States, it started to go downhill.

Now we have copious numbers of young people who are dressing like terrorists (as you noted recently), embracing Communism and Socialism, unable to thing for themselves, ignorant, and entitled. Ugh.

I truly worry abt this country. And how…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I wish someone could explain, rationally, just what it is the young people see in these two phony old coots.

Bernie promises freebies with other people’s money talking about the evil rich while owning 3 very nice houses himself.

Water is corrupt and has been caught in her corruption not to mention she lies, flip-flops and much of the time makes no sense at all.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Beat the hell out of me, Marge. I truly do not get it. Waters is, as you noted, incoherent a good bit (most?) of the time. WHY are they so into her? It makes no sense at all.

And i will NEVER uderstamd the swing from the “cool, black dude” to the curmudgeonly old man screaming all of the time. WOW.

Btw, I saw on a recent “Chicago Fire” episode one of the firefighters teaching his son a lesson abt not standing for the Pledge because pro-athletes don’t stand. He took him to a VFW for a pancake breakfast where he was introduced to a number of veterans, many who had lost limbs fighting for his rights.

So when they all stood to recite the pledge, so did that young man. Lesson learned…

          • kenoshamarge Says:

Bravo one smart father. Imagine not wanting his son to grow into a POS like those millionaire athletes complaining about the country that gave them all they could have hoped for.

Here is some good news for schools – Trump is dumping Michelle’s lunch debacle (still do not understand how she was able to push that agenda with NO legislative oversight, especially since it cost schools PLENTY): http://thehill.com/regulation/healthcare/331400-trump-unwinding-first-ladys-school-lunch-program-rules

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I have no problem with trying to get children to eat healthier. But this was done all wrong. Trying to cram this down the kids, and their parents, throats all at once was stupid and didn’t take into account that people, especially kids, will resist change if they don’t like or understand it.

Several of my kids were “picky” eaters so I had to outsmart the little monkeys. Grated carrot in the meatloaf was only one of many ways I got them to eat vegetables.

If you can’t outsmart children enough to get them to eat what’s good for them you shouldn’t be making any changes to their diets.

This is an excellent piece from The Federalist. I have NEVER understood why the “T” got attached to the LGB community in the first place. And now, we are paying for it: http://thefederalist.com/2017/05/02/trans-activists-will-destroy-homosexual-rights/
