Year in and year out stories arise of veterans dying, not in combat, but for lack of care once they return from serving their country. Here at home.

They left the horror of war to come back home. Some of them have visible wounds, horrific wounds and some have wounds that don’t show. None return as they left.

One administration after another is shocked at the news that veterans are not getting the care they earned, need and deserve. They vow they will do something. They all do something. None solves the problem. None does enough.

Here’s a story from California:

OIG Report: More Than 100 Veterans Died While Waiting for Care at Los Angeles VA

More than 100 veterans died while waiting for care at a Veterans Affairs hospital in Los Angeles, Calif., over a nine-month span ending in August 2015, according to a new government report.

According to the Inspector General these veterans died because of a failure by VA employees to follow proper procedure. Let me repeat that, some idiot employee of the Veterans Administration in California failed to follow procedure and people died.

Someone please tell me that these employees are now former employees of the Veterans Administration in California.

When your failure to do your job correctly leads to people dying that is too serious to give you another chance. Another shot at killing more people. You should be out on your ass so fast you don’t know what happened. You should be prosecuted for manslaughter.

Judging by the past in instances like this, these people will be given a slap on the wrist and allowed to keep their jobs. That isn’t right, it isn’t just and it isn’t decent. It isn’t safe.

California certainly isn’t alone in it’s disgusting and disgraceful treatment of the men and women who serve in our military to keep us safe.

Here’s what happened here in Wisconsin:

Hundreds of Wisconsin VA dental patients possibly exposed to HIV, hepatitis

Nearly 600 patients who received dental care at a Wisconsin Veterans Affairs medical center may have been exposed to HIV, hepatitis B and C and now face an anxious wait to find out if they were infected.

A dentist at the Tomah VA Medical Center improperly re-used his own dental equipment instead of using the sterilized, disposable tools as VA rules require.

“It was purposeful that he was violating VA regulations,” said Victoria Brahm, acting medical director at the Tomah VA Center in a press briefing earlier this week.

The dentist is expected to face administrative proceedings. He has since resigned.

592 veterans who received care from the dentist can receive free screenings for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.

How, and why do such things happen?

Complaints of malfeasance or neglect are common if not commonly reported. Media doesn’t make such complaints a priority because the VA is the poster child for the single payer they would inflict on all of us.

Any citizen that isn’t determined that EVERYONE must use whatever is inflicted on us is a fool.

VA Is Still A ‘High Risk’ For Mismanagement And Waste, Government Report Says

The Department of Veterans Affairs health care system was again declared a “high risk” area of government, susceptible to waste and mismanagement and in need of more oversight.

The Government Accountability Office, a leading government watchdog, presented to Congress on Wednesday its biennial report of government programs that are vulnerable to fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement. VA health care was listed as one of 34 high-risk areas in the nearly 700-page report.

“It certainly underscores that the Veterans Health Administration has not made enough progress towards providing quality care for our veterans,” Rep. Phil Roe, R-Tenn., said in a written statement. Roe is chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

My question to Representative Roe is, what the hell are you fools in congress doing about the problem?

Roe says the VA must have the resources. We all know what it means when a politician says “resources”. Resources = money.

Throwing money at a problem is all that politicians seem to understand. That is fails to resolves the problem usually results in them throwing more money. And round and round it goes…

I will give Roe more credit than most politicians because he did say that he didn’t think the VA was spending its budget wisely, and that improvements wouldn’t come solely from a budget increase. More common sense than I usually expect from a politician.  As chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs I expect more.

The budget for the VA health care system has grown from $37.8 billion in fiscal 2006 to $91.2 billion in fiscal 2016, the GAO report states. Still it fails to do it’s job. Could it be that it’s a personnel problem and not simply a money problem?

We owe our vets the best care that this country has available. The fact that they don’t get it is a disgrace. Maybe they need to figure out another way to get their own government to help them…

Perhaps because of the moral and cultural decay in our country not enough people care if our vets aren’t getting the care they need.

We need an enraged and engaged citizenry determined that an end be put to the misconduct, incompetence and disgusting behavior by employees of the VA. We need to make the politicians that we expect then to do actually do something besides talk. We need them to know there will be consequences at the ballot box if they don’t.

This problem crosses all political and racial lines.. This is a problem that a large majority of Americans will get behind. Yet here it still is.

We should be ashamed. Each and every one of us that isn’t writing, phoning, emailing our representatives until something, something substantial is done.

Ultimately we the people must do something. Because we know, as past is prologue, that the government will not solve anything unless we force them. Put the fear of re-election into everyone of the sorry excuses for human beings until the problem is solved.

Some of us will. Many of us will. But until ALL of us, or close to all of us, have a nationwide hissy-fit  that even the media can’t ignore vets will continue to suffer and die.

And for that we owe him whatever he needs.

New Veterans Affairs Chief: A Hands-On, Risk-Taking ‘Standout’

One thing that the head of the VA, Dr. Shulkin has done that I really approve of is that in April, the agency began publicly posting wait times and quality data for every veterans hospital and clinic — sunlight he sees as crucial for accountability.

I see that as a very good move. I don’t expect any agency the size of the VA to be turned around quickly. That’s simply not realistic. But I do expect to see some very large strides made. And letting the public see the wait times is a very good start IMO.

“You’re Fired”: EPA head dismisses half of Science Advisory Board

Life at the current Environmental Protection Agency now resembles an episode of “The Apprentice”, the iconic reality show once hosted by President Donald Trump.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt once battled the agency he now leads and argued its scientists often failed to properly assess the fiscal impact relative to actual risk related to implementing new regulations on businesses. As a result of his leadership, half of the Science Advisory Board has been dismissed.

Excellent, excellent post, Marge. Thank you for covering this issue, and so well. It is truly disturbing to see what our veterans have to suffer through to get care when in too many places, illegal immigrants are taken better care of than those who served in uniform.

And the suicide rate is truly disturbing. Thanks for shining a light on that tragic issue…

This is a frightening, infuriating, report from Sharyl Attkisson on “Fake Science” as it applies to medicine:

I think we may see more of this. Parents are tired of having liberals indoctrinate their children. That indoctrination is everywhere.

Any organization that promotes, in any way, no matter how minuscule, the idea that abortion is right should be shunned by any decent parent.

Yes the Catholic Church has an image problem when it comes to pedophile priests. Also with the whole no female priest idea.

Trying, in some small way to keep little girls away from the secular culture we have today, that promotes sexual activity at an early age, is a good idea IMO.

I know those values, or lack thereof are not how I want my granddaughters taught.
