hy·per·bo·le

noun: hyperbole; plural noun: hyperboles
  1. exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.
synonyms: exaggeration, overstatement, magnification, embroidery, embellishment, excess, overkill, rhetoric

Sometimes it’s difficult to tell just plain lies from hyperbole.

Cartoons often/usually make their point with hyperbolic text and images. It’s the nature of what they do. Thus, the cartoon below isn’t meant to be taken seriously so much as to point out the silliness of the Dems and their reaction to the Trump proposed budget. That’s not to say that the GOP reaction to Obama’s budget wasn’t as hyperbolic, and silly, just different.

That’s not to say that cartoons can’t be just as dishonest as rhetoric from other sources.

Sometimes those we mistakenly “rely” on to “inform” us are guilty of dishonesty and sometimes hyperbole. And sometimes it is difficult to tell which is what.

Hyperbolic rhetoric in a cartoon and in comedy is fine – from elected officials and media it is dangerous, dishonest and dismally frequent.

Let’s take a look at some of the more recent examples of hyperbolic behavior.

Joe Heller is a cartoonist from my neck of the woods. He is a fan of Obamacare and NOT a fan of Donald Trump. Thus he uses his cartoons to make his opinion known as in the one below.

The cartoon below uses the usual liberal meme that the GOP is heartless and doesn’t care about the poor, the elderly and about people with pre-existing conditions. His cartoon is hyperbolic and dishonest. I seldom use his cartoons. for that reason and because I so seldom agree with his POV.

Still my point is that he is a cartoonist and hyperbolic is what he does.

The Daily Mail is my go-to place for information. Ben Shapiro is the voice I tend to find the most honest as well as one of the smartest epople around. But he isn’t the only one writing there.

John Nolte write some very good material but the hyperbolic line in the article below is annoys me.

Report: WaPo Blows It AGAIN — Kushner Did NOT Request Russia Back Channel

As the Daily Wire has already documented at great length, over the past year or so the left-wing Washington Post has been nothing less than a pipe organ of disinformation, especially when it comes to President Trump and most especially as it pertains to The Stupidest Scandal In The History Of The World (aka the Russian scandal).

I’ve highlighted the hyperbole that annoyed me in red. I confess that I clicked off and didn’t even bother to read the rest of the article for over an hour because I was so irritated. To me, such hyperbole is insulting to our intelligence. What are we children?

Cartoon by A.F.Branco - Just Beat it

The A.F. Branco cartoon above is also hyperbolic – but it’s a cartoon and that’s okay because that is what cartoons do. And it’s very clever.

Sometimes what sounds at first like hyperbole is just a truth we would sooner not admit. For instance a lot of my contemporaries are constantly saying that young people, the so-called “Millennials” are stupid. Many of us say nonsense. Then another Jessie Watters video comes out and I find multiple links to it in my email box.

It’s hard to argue that not all Millennials are stupid when it seems so many are determined to prove their stupidity.

Please, if you see Jessie Watters coming and you are fundamentally ignorant – run.  Run far away. Because although you may like the attention, why would you want to be recognized as a dunce?

You can’t throw a cat in Washington D.C. without hitting some hyperbolic politician racing to a microphone for the latest installment of Trump is a Russian spy  or the GOP hates children and old people.

All politicians are hyperbolic to some extent. Hard to get the attention of the American People otherwise. Perhaps it’s my bias but I do think the Dems a a little more so than the GOP.

Dems are also able to switch their opinions/rhetoric and never show the slightest bit of embarrassment about it. The whole “Comey” nonsense is a perfect example of their ability to turn on a dime. A barrel racer at a rodeo should do as well.

While changing their opinion from yesterday they will call a Republican that isn’t saying the same thing he said a year or 20 years ago a flip-flopper. Corkscrews got nothing on politicians.

And meanwhile how do you ever take seriously a media that reports on how many scoops of ice cream a president gets?

If they aren’t that stupid they most certainly think we are.

Query: Is the headline below hyperbolic in using the word shock or is it being realistic?

Shock: UN, Norway Lash Out at Palestinians for naming Women’s Center After Notorious Terrorist

Has the world ended? The UN has actually lashed out at the Palestinian Authority after the Palestinian NGO “Women’s Technical Affairs Committee” (WTAC) named a women’s center after terrorist Dalal Mughrabi, a member of the Fatah faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Norway stepped in as well, demanding the PA refund money the country donated for the center and remove the country’s name.

The text of the first paragraph tends to the hyperbolic but it makes it’s point that for the UN to chastise, even mildly the Palestinians is unusual.

Meanwhile closer to home Rep. Keith Ellison, one of the dimmer lights in the Dem chandelier tweeted this:

Seems the dim-bulb Representative from Minnesota forgot that Obamacare is still the law of the land. The GOP may have presented some heartless alternatives but they have not passed.

Seriously Minnesota, you elected both Ellison and Al Franken? Is there something wrong with your water?

Some truths are so bizarre, or so terrible that it seems at first glance they must be hyperbole. And when they aren’t we are left in a world we don’t want, didn’t envision, never thought possible and want to leave.

Happy Monday and don’t let the lies, distortions, evasions, and hyperbole get you down. They think they are smart enough to fool all of us – they’re wrong.

Amazingly, that sounds a lot like the #NeverTrumpers too.

Hillary Clinton is at it again.

Not so much hyperbole as lies and distortions. Ms. Clinton’s flights of fancy are all in all, rather pathetic.

Hillary Clinton says that she “beat” Donald Trump—and Bernie Sanders—in a lengthy feature article by New York Magazine.

“I beat both of them,” she said, evidently referencing her popular vote win over Trump. Wouldn’t you think a woman who has been a First Lady, a Senator and Secretary of State be aware that in order to become POTUS you must win the majority of votes in the Electoral College. But that doesn’t serve her purpose. Poor old Hillary, once again the victim. /s

Clinton did defeat Sanders, who is not a Democrat, in the Democratic primary, she did not defeat Trump, who was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States in January.

Even a woman as distanced from the truth as Hillary Clinton knows what she said was a lie because if she had “beat” Trump she and Slick Willie would be residing in the White House.

And she “beat” Bernie with the help of some nasty insider maneuvering that many of the Bernie voters still haven’t forgiven.

Yikes: These Six Baltimore Schools Don’t Have A Single Student Proficient In State Testing

There are many problems plaguing Baltimore. The homicide rate is out of control, averaging one murder per day. In April, the city surpassed 100 homicides and its on track to having the highest homicide rate in the country. On top of this, the city has six schools, five high schools and one middle school, where not a single student is proficient in math and English. On the grading scale for these state tests, a four or five score is considered proficient, while three and under is not.

Some parents are rightfully outraged, noting that this isn’t necessarily a student issue, but one that lands squarely on the teachers.

Good. LORD. And there you have it – what unionizing teachers has done for Education in this country…

I am not being hyperbolic when I say, great post, Marge! Love it.

I wanted to share this Daily Wire piece abt two of Hollywood’s big stars showing their respect for the Fallen on Memorial Day. What a nice change from so many of those sanctimonious, ill-informed, condescending actors who speak out on matters abt which they know nothing. Both of these men have played Navy Seals, and it seems to have stuck with them:

I am glad that someone in Hollywood has the class to do so.

I was already a big Chris Pratt fan – more so now. And will add Krazinski to my list of good guys.
