Play Ball, Pay Respects, Up And Away, Protect, And Puppy Love *Weekend Thread*

Good Heavens, what a whackadoodle week we just endured. This is the SUMMER – aren’t things supposed to be calmer in the world of Politics? Oh, right – it’s an Election Year, so all craziness can run rampant. Sheesh.

Hence the need for our Weekend Open Thread and a respite from all of that hooeyfication (yeah, so it’s not a real word – but it should be!). By the time you read this, I will be in Washington, DC, visiting my sister in law (who is also my oldest friend).

First on our agenda is to take in an Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals game. We have some pretty great seats, as you can see below, which will make it even better. And yes, Charles Krauthammer will be on my mind since he was an AVID Nationals fan, though I’ll be rooting for the Braves (hey, Southerners are required to root for the Braves! They are my NL team, though you know I am a died-in-the-pinstripe-wool Yankees fan.). Anyway, this will be our view during the game:

Nationals Park Section 118 Row M Seat 7

Oh, yeah – cannot wait to enjoy the American pastime in the Nation’s capital.

While we are in DC, we also plan to go to Arlington National Cemetery and to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to pay our respects. My sister in law was an Intelligence Officer in the Navy, and still works for the US Government. My father was in the Navy. And my partner’s father is a retired 3 star US Army General. It is the very least we can do to go to the cemetery to pay our respects, and to be present for the changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to thank those who served our Nation:

I cannot even watch the video without getting choked up. Such a powerful, moving ceremony, with the respect and honor palpable. To witness this ceremony, to visit the Cemetery, is the least I can do to thank those who served.

Also on the agenda is a trip to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. This will be a first for me, and I am excited about seeing historical aircraft like this:

Image of nose of Spirit of St. Louis airplane

And spacecraft like this:

Space Shuttle orbiter Discovery on display in the McDonnell Space Hangar at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

I cannot wait to see the world of Aviation and Space history with the actual air and space craft on display. There are a number of collections and Exhibitions to see.

No doubt, there will be some other fun things on the agenda too, but these are the big ones currently on the agenda.

Next up is an unbelievably incredible video. This is just stunning. I am sure the scientist who was in the water was more than a little disconcerted to have this humpback whale come up to her and act like this. Turns out, it was for a very good reason:

Isn’t that WILD??? I am sure that to have this unbelievably massive creature push her and corral her had to be scary as all get out, no matter how much she loves whales. But to realize that the whale did it to protect her from a shark is just astonishing. Wow. Whales are amazing creatures, aren’t they?

Finally, to something more of us may experience on solid ground – puppy love. Check out the reaction of this Golden Retriever to its gift of a new puppy:

How sweet is that? That little puppy didn’t seem quite sure what to do with the big dog, but the tail wagging of them both will surely increase as their bond deepens. So cute…

Oh – and I guess I should give equal time to cats. Any of you who have cats (I have three) can relate to this:

And yes, if you have cats, you know how very true this is!

That’s it for me, friends. I will check in when I can, and always look forward to your comments, quips, humor, music, news, whatever you feel like sharing. This is the Weekend Open Thread.

Have a great weekend!

What a wonderful experience you are going to have – see the changing of the guard at the Tomb Of The Unknown must be an emotional experience. I cannot watch the videos without getting teary-eyed so to actually be there must be sublime.

Imagine having your life saved by a whale – especially when you are working to “Save The Whales” – how wonderful. And it must make her twice as determined to save these magnificent creatures.

All these wonderful videos and stories help us remember that in spite of twitidiots and twitter mobs and all the other things that afflict us on a daily basis – there are still good and delightful things around us.

Thank you for reminding us of that every weekend.

As for the “Braves” – harumppf – I still remember when they were the “Milwaukee Braves” and the south’s purloining of the team I rooted for back then is not forgotten or forgiven.

I was a huge fan of sluggers Eddie Mathews and Hank Aaron as well as pitchers Warren Spahn, Lew Burdette, and Bob Buhl. The move broke my young heart and I never loved Major League Baseball veyr much again. The Brewers Robin Young, Paul Molitor and Gorman Thomas were favorites and I went to a few games but they never captured my imagination or heart like the player on the Milwaukee Braves.

In the end I because a Cbs fan. They never won so it didn’t matter. And now they’ve gone and got good and ruined that!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL about the Braves and how you haven’t forgotten/forgiven them. I completely understand. But since they moved to the South, they became our beloved Braves. Sorry! And as it turns out, due to LOTS of rain, the long-awaited game has been rained out. Oh well. Hopefully the rain will stop long enough to go to the Tomb of the Unknown tomorrow. Wasn’t that whale story something? That it rushed in to protect her is just incredible. So glad you liked the post, Marge. Yes, having a break in these times is a good thing indeed…

Poll: Americans Don’t Give A Hoot About So-Called Russian Collusion

Between February and April 2018, a mere 1 percent of Americans thought the situation with Russia was the most important. In May and June, less than 1 percent of Americans thought the ongoing situation with Russia was the top issue.

Uh yeah, you would think the Demedia would get a clue already, but no…

The “Demedia”, love that, reminds me of the saying: “often in error – never in doubt.” Their arrogance is their biggest enemy.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL – thanks. I decided I no longer needed to type out Dem/Media since they are one in the same. That expression is just perfect!!

Michael Brown: 7 Reasons Why the Transgender Revolution Will Fail

I earnestly hope and pray that every child and adult struggling with gender identity issues will find wholeness, peace, and happiness from the inside out. I earnestly hope and pray that we will live to see the day when every person who feels trapped inside the wrong body will find internal resolution without hormones and radical surgery. At the same time, I wholeheartedly oppose the transgender revolution and predict that, ultimately, it will fail. Here’s why.

    1) The transgender revolution is oppressive. As reported on July 16 on Lifesite News, “Failing to refer to a gender-confused student, professor, or staffer by his or her ‘preferred’ pronouns could become a fireable or expulsion-worthy offense at the University of Minnesota, according to proposed guidelines currently under consideration.”

It is not enough to allow a biological male to identify as a female. Hardly. Society must conform, or else. If “he” now identifies as “she” (or “xe” or “ze”) and you fail to use the right pronoun, you will be punished.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I sure hope he is right. That latest idiocy of bludgeoning people (for all intents and purposes) if they don’t use some pronoun or made up word for someone who isn’t sure what they are is astonishing. I would sue in a big way over that one… Along those lines, have you heard abt the parents who are now calling their fetuses/babies “they” lest there be any gender influence on them?

      People have lost their minds.

Ben Shapiro: So, Here’s A Giant List Of All The Dumb Stuff I’ve Ever Done (Don’t Worry, I’ll Keep Updating It)

This week, in the space of 24 hours, I went from a nice person with good intentions who differs politically from liberals but doesn’t bend the truth to a racist, sexist, bigot homophobe, at least in the view of actor/director Mark Duplass. I don’t resent Duplass – I feel bad for the guy, insofar as he’s been bullied by the regressive Left into disowning any association with anyone with a different point of view (he’s done similar things with Glenn Beck and Steven Crowder, for what it’s worth).

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Wow, Shapiro does a stellar job of laying it all out there! I love his section about things he says that are true that the Left doesn’t like, and things that are his opinion. Good on him for calling these people out!

      Sent from AOL Mobile Mail

      • kenoshamarge Says:

He is also very good at admitting his own mistakes. That, at least to me, makes him a man of integrity.

Ben Shapiro could be, given his large intellect, an arrogant know it all.

I suspect that some of the things he wrote when he was 19 were the arrogance of being a very young man who was nearly always the smartest one in the room.

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

At long last, the DOJ has released the FISA application against Carter Page. It is long, and no, I haven’t read it. It does indeed rely on the discredited Stelle Dossier, and some more, as I understand it:

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Andrew McCarthy is on and RIPPING the FBI for this application and claims it was “highly irregular.” He said they basically did what he said they did – slapped something on the top and used the dossier.

And that they did not verify the facts used to apply for FISA. That is a big one. He also said the agents’ names should not be redacted – just the judges.

They used this multiple times, as well as the now discredited article.

I dunno – sounds bad for the FBI. Again.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

At first read it appears that Carter Page was targeted and investigated on information that would not meet the requirements for a FISA warrant. So they doctored.

At the time this happened Obama was president and it’s hard to believe he didn’t know any of this was happening.

I’ll have to read more but this doesn’t sit well with me.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Andrew McCarthy was hot under the collar abt this. Apparently the Dossier was the first thing they used as evidence, then the circular articles were used, so no real evidence. And people like McCabe, John Kerry, Yates, and more signed off on it.

Yeah, something is rotten in Denmark, no doubt abt it.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

From what I’ve been reading this morning Carter Page was never interviewed by the FBI. WTH?

He’s going to be on CNN with Tapper this morning.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Are you KIDDING me??? He wasn’t even interviewed??? There is no excuse for that, if this was a legitimate surveillance, that is. How is it that they had it renewed more than once and DIDN’T interview him??

Here is the interview with Andrew McCarthy abt the whole Carter Page/FISA issue:

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Amen, sister! The sun is actually shining this morning so we are off to Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

A wonderful way to spend a Sunday IMO. I envy you. However my feet, back, knees and hips do not. Please take pictures!

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I totally hear you. Thank heavens for the fantastic tram they had at Arlington National Cemetery, and for the wheelchair I often use for these occasions.

We were right at the chains where the guards come out to change. It was a moving, powerful experience. So grateful for it.

Oh, the guard who came on after the change ended up yelling at people who were talking loudly. He stepped off the runner they use, and yelled at them to remember that it was a place of Silence and Respect. Good on him for so doing.

It started raining shortly after that, but we did get to at least drive past all of the major memorials, and went to see the new MLK one. It is POWERFUL indeed. It was raining some when we got out of the car, and was a torrential downpour by the tie we were headed back (and we were parked nearby). So worth it, though…

Tomorrow, up, up, and away at Air and Space!

A young ventriloquist touring Norway puts on a show in a small fishing town. With his dummy on his knee, he starts going through his usual dumb blonde jokes.

Suddenly, a blonde woman in the fourth row stands up and starts shouting, “I’ve heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes. What makes you think you can stereotype Norwegian blonde women that way? What does the color of a woman’s hair have to do with her worth as a human being? It’s men like you who keep women like me from being respected at work and in the community, and from reaching our full potential as people. It’s people like you that make others think that all blondes are dumb! You and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only blondes, but women in general, pathetically all in the name of humor!”

The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologize, and the blonde interrupts yelling, “You stay out of this! I’m talking to that little shit on your lap.”

If you actively dislike Juan Williams, which I do, and absolutely love Mollie Hemingway, which I do, you’re gonna love this video of her shutting him down when she visited The Five.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I DO love here and dislike Juan Williams. I actually saw this show when she said it to him. She is never adversarial or nasty (though he can be adversarial, dismissive, and arrogant). She makes her point using logic. What a concept.

      Thanks for this, Marge!

  11. kenoshamarge Says:

If you are a Trey Gowdy fan, as I have been, and have been a little disappointed with him for a while you may be loving the Trey Gowdy we’ve seen recently. The interview below is a Gowdy classic.

Gowdy: If There Was Evidence That President Trump Committed Any Crime, “Adam Schiff Would Have Leaked It”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, my – he is so funny – and RIGHT. Adam Schiff leaks like a sieve, and no doubt if there was something that actually happened we would ALL know abt it.

Good discussion between Brett and Rep. Gowdy. Thanks for this!

7-year-old chess prodigy can’t compete at world championship in Tunisia because she’s Israeli

This is 7-year-old chess champ Liel Levitan. She has won the European chess championship for kids last week but she can’t compete in the world chess championship that will be held in Tunisia. Why? She’s Israeli.

The Arab countries’ racism towards Israel in sports must stop.

The entire tournament should be cancelled over this crap.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Isn’t that just terrible?? This terribly bright young girl is being excluded from a championship she DESERVES to attend. Where is the hue and cry over this from the world community at this blatant intolerance?!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Any child that does win is being cheated too because their win is tainted by not playing against the winner of the European. The win should certainly have an asterisk if nothing else.

I guess all the women’s advocates can’t be bothered with one little girl.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I could not agree more. The win will be tainted.

Amazing how silent these women’s groups are, huh?

Holy Ratman – this is an incredible story abt Chicago and what has happened there in the past 4 yrs. It ain’t pretty:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Wasn’t it Rahm Emmanuel who said: “never let a crisis go to waste”? Wonder what he’s gonna do with this one.

“It’s part of living in a city,” Norma Rios-Sierra told the Chicago Tribune.

Really? What low standards she must have if this is considered normal.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No kidding. Who the heck is so cavalier about something like that?

And yeah – how’s Rahm going to spin the rats and the murder rate? Sheesh.

This was a great, loving, and compassionate response by Luttrell to the news it was a 14 yr old boy who destroyed the memorial to Luttrell’s comrade in arms, Mike Murphy:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Wow! This is the way a man behaves. Not snotty little tweets and attacking anyone that doesn’t agree with him. This is the way a man reacts who wants to “fix” the problem, and the 14 year old, instead of scoring points. Well Done Sir, very well done.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Wasn’t that a great response? He really is a wonderful example of what a decent man/person should be. Good on him. And I hope the judge takes his request seriously.
