What Are We Becoming? *Open Thread*

Every morning when I start reading the news from a variety of different sources, I am just stunned at some of the headlines that are popping up. Often, I simply cannot believe I am living in the United States of America.

For instance, let’s take this story, one which just blew my mind. It’s also one I have not seen mentioned anywhere else. It’s from Townhall. Check this out:

Capitol Police Launch Investigation After Congresswoman Nearly Run Over While Praying Outside Abortion ClinicRep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) was praying outside of the Whole Woman’s Health of South Bend last Saturday when a Dodge Challenger nearly ran her and another person over, though the driver stopped short on the brakes just before doing so.

The congresswoman’s office released a statement on Saturday:

“On Saturday, May 15th, I joined a group of pro-life Hoosiers in prayer while they gathered peacefully near a South Bend abortion clinic. As I was leaving, a vehicle traveling quickly down Lincoln Way West swerved toward the group and came to an abrupt stop just a few feet away from me. Given the recent increase in threats against members of Congress, the U.S. Capitol Police are investigating this incident.

“I stand with my fellow pro-life Hoosiers who work to defend the most vulnerable among us, the unborn. They will not be silenced or intimidated by threats or acts of violence from radical activists. As Americans, we can debate and disagree on fundamental issues, but it is absolutely unacceptable to endanger the lives of others.”

This isn’t the first time pro-life activists have been targeted at this location. REAL News Michiana has reported on previous incidents, including to do with Michael Case, a clinic escort who is soon getting out of his Dodge Challenger to curse out pro-life activists outside of the facility. He is seen getting concerningly close, without a mask, not long after COVID had been declared a pandemic. […](Click here to read the rest.)

Good Lord!! The article continues to highlight other incidences of people being attacked for being pro-Life. What the hell does THAT say about who we are as a nation? As a culture?! Wow.

Meanwhile, all across the country, radical Leftists and Palestinians are raging against Israel and Jews, attacking Jews in major cities across the country, especially in Democrat-run cities. The levels of anti-Semitism are beyond imaging, especially in this country. From Legal Insurrection:

Attacks on Jews as part of “pro-Palestinian” activism have soared since Hamas sparked an 11-day fight by firing rockets at Israeli cities, while hiding among civilians themselves to ensure there would be civilian Palestinian casualties in the retaliation. An important factor in bringing the Middle East conflict to the streets of Los Angeles, New York, and elsewhere, is the “Deadly Exchange” campaign, seeking to blame American Jews and Israelis for alleged U.S. domestic police violence against minorities. While Deadly Exhange, created by the anti-Zionist Jewish Voice for Peace, has existed for years, it became an important talking point for anti-Israel activists since the Gaza fighting erupted.

The conflict provided a new opportunity for ‘intersectional’ anti-Israel agitators to portray Israel as the common denominator in oppressions all over the world, including racism in the United States. This rhetoric was engaged in not only by street thugs, but also by several members of Congress.

Most recently (last Friday, May 14th), we reported on a speech by freshman Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO)—one of the newest members of the ‘Squad’-led congressional anti-Israel caucus—in which she echoed previous efforts to racialize the Israeli-Arab/Islamist conflict by inventing parallels between Palestinian Arabs and American Blacks.

In a speech yesterday on the House floor, Bush lashed out at Israel, summing it up in this tweet echoing “intersectionality” rhetoric that has been a staple of anti-Israel activism for years:

The fight for Black lives and the fight for Palestinian liberation are interconnected. We oppose our money going to fund militarized policing, occupation, and systems of violent oppression and trauma. We are anti-war. We are anti-occupation. And we are anti-apartheid. Period.

Rep. Bush was not the only one, oh, no. You can probably guess who the other “useful idiots” are who went after Israel and made blatantly anti-Semitic statements, yet somehow are still in Congress and not being sanctioned at all. As Legal Insurrection highlights, the usual suspects make their appearance, like Rep. Rashida Tlaib:

Arguably the most vocal and virulent of the congressional anti-Israel caucus, Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) never misses an opportunity to recite her favorite tenets of intersectional orthodoxy. For instance, in 2019, we documented her half-baked keynote address at the annual American Muslims for Palestine conference:

I would remember the history here in this country…still, the oppression of our black brothers and sisters. Every time I saw the different color license plates, the dehumanization at the checkpoints, everything. So interconnected…So when you think about the border, you gotta understand how interconnected it is with the oppression, of what’s happening in Falastine, the oppression that’s happening to our people. When I see…like, the police going after, killing innocent people, innocent, treating African American brothers and sisters like they’re disposable, I think of Filastine and what happens to our brothers and sisters in the occupation.

Last week, standing alongside an enthusiastic Representative André Carson,  Tlaib recycled this meme for the benefit of a Washington, D.C. “Free Palestine” rally. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

These Congressional anti-Semites are proud and loud, speaking out against the ONLY democratic nation in the ENTIRE Middle East, defending and supporting a TERRORIST organization in Hamas.

Branco sums this latest “intersectionality” pushed by Congresscritters like Tlaib, et. al, perfectly:

Yep. That.

For a long time, the Left has painted with an extraordinarily large brush the Right as  being the anti-Semites in this country. It is NOT people on the Right who are committing these acts of violence and demonstrating against Israel and Jews. It is the Left. Ben Domenech of The Federalist has something to say about that:

“One of the things that came out of the corporate media’s coverage of the last four years of former President Donald Trump was this false depiction that the right was in some way dominated by antisemitism… and that the left basically was innocent as the driven snow,” Domenech said, as cases of antisemitism spike in the wake the worst Palestinian-Israeli conflict erupting this month in decades. “I think that that really took them away from paying attention to a rise in antisemitism on the left that has been apparent to anybody who was looking at what politicians were saying in the last several years.”

“This is a situation that I think is getting out of control, it seems to me the president ought to be speaking to it, and yet, we really haven’t heard a condemnation from him,” Domenech said. “Why is it so hard for Joe Biden to criticize some of the extreme elements within his own party, who represent so much of a threat to Jewish Americans today?” (Click here to read the rest.)

Biden and Harris finally made statements condemning the anti-Semitic attacks on Monday (5/24/21).

What are we Americans becoming?!

I have surgery today and won’t get to comments after this morning but please share your thoughts anyway!

Great post Amy! I too often wonder at the country of my birth. I have always been proud to be an America. Now? Proud of a lot of my fellow Americans, shamed and amazed at the stupidity, dishonesty, lack of character and hate coming from so many.

Oh and did I forget enormous ignorance? Cause there is a whole lot of that going on.

Isn’t that Branco cartoon perfect for the idiot “squad?” He is so good and they are so vile.

I am amazed that you found time and energy to write a post at this time.

Know we are all praying for you and thinking of you as you have yet another surgery. I hope this one is successful and is also the final one. Dang girl, you have more than your share!

Thanks so much, Marge. I appreciate it!

I continue to be astounded by how rapid is the decline of the nation in such a short time. The media, spineless Republicans, and the inclusion of Marxism building up over the years has certainly helped lead to this place. The Left in this country seems hellbent on destroying everything that made our nation great.

This article goes into good detail on what has happened to us, and how it is seeping into the military. In this case, it is directed at the Navy:

Thank you Keno–guess I am not crazy!! Feel like I must have been or now am in some crazy dream.
I look back at the way it was. Sadly about the time Obama took his oath. It was not perfect, but dang it is like night and day now.
Was what I remember about the way things used to only my imagination or some dream? Even when I lived in LA it wasn’t like this, and know that is not just childhood memories.
It is almost like someone let loose the zombies or ?? Hey if this is just some nightmare, please wake me up.

Ignorance, sometimes comments are such good examples that you just have to save them for later.
Pro-VAXers most made comment is, whats the big deal schools have been requiring vaccines. for decades. My usual comment bacl is that they are FDA approved and COVID vaccinations are not. So after a bit of needling I tell this one pro-VAXer the measles, mumps and chickenpox weren’t around when I was younger. Her comeback was they were around since she entered school and she said she is 75. Well first one came out in 1963, Measles. Guess she didn’t do her math very well, cause that would make 17 when she entered school.
I’m not perfect but…Yes I went there Bad me.

    To Fight Back, Question Everything

    By J.B. Shurk

The world is so plagued by contradictions right now that I sometimes find myself quietly mouthing the opening sentences of Charles Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities (and I bet I’m not alone in this admission). In terms of safety, health, opportunity, and prosperity, there has never been a better time in human history, but hardly anyone living anywhere is celebrating. Barack Obama sold “hope” on his march to power, but Black Lives Matter and Antifa preach only despair at every turn.

An American government invested in projecting strength abroad stokes fear at home. It has never been easier to acquire know-how of almost any kind, yet ignorance runs amok. How is this even possible when humans have never had greater access to information?

Before the printing press revolutionized mass communication in the mid-fifteenth century, nobody owned books. They were prohibitively expensive secret stores of knowledge possessed by a tiny percentage of monastic scribes and wealthy elites (many of whom were illiterate themselves). Within fifty years of Gutenberg’s invention, more books were produced than during the previous thousand years.

Still, just two hundred years ago, almost ninety percent of the world couldn’t even read or write. Now almost ninety percent of the world is literate, and most of us walk around with little computers in our pockets that, along with an internet connection, allow us to retrieve almost every word that has ever been written about almost anything. If knowledge is priceless, and almost anyone can now scoop it up with the tap of a screen, we live in the golden age of universal wealth.

2008 I woke up–Hey Amy remember those years.
With the right people I will say that I do have to thank Hillary for one thing, doing way more research now. 2008 was when I realized how much at least Democrats were getting screwed by the DNC and other Democrats. Don’t think it was more than a few months later that I realized there was more..My big big wake up moment with RINOs and all, probably 2012…
Keno there is a difference between being literate.and actually being able to use good common sense to comprehend what you are reading. If it does not make sense then research, which I think so many don’t even do anymore. If it comes from the media or some politician they take it as gospel.
Oh my research is not perfect. I’ve gone with an article because of who posted it or gave it to me, and regretted not doing my usual research

The Dems’ Hamas Caucus In Congress

Meet the aiders and abettors of terror.

    By Joseph Klein

What is becoming known as the Hamas Caucus in the U.S. Congress, especially in the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives, is made up of a growing number of leftist progressives who hate the Jewish state of Israel. The members of the Hamas Caucus believe that Israel is an apartheid oppressor, not a country under relentless attack for simply wanting to remain the one and only Jewish state in the world.

They believe that when terrorists fire rockets at Israeli civilian population centers with abandon, the Israeli military must not fight back to defend Israel’s residents. This is the perverted thinking of individuals who also claim that their own country is built solely on the foundation of white supremacist racism and must be fundamentally transformed.

TY so sad that this type of ………….is written because this should was not America I grew up in. Take it the right way please. Why is it that everything all about hate and race lately.
Today the media is posting in the Northwest about a 77-year that got angry, over tomato thickness, woman hurls racial slurs, burger at Burger King employee! Come on guys, lady was in the wrong, but this incident was April 30th, almost a month ago & 3,000 miles away. Maybe national news if it had been some politician or Hollywood star, but posting it almost a month after the fact. This is today’s media, adding more fuel to any fire, & fanning the flames long after they should.

Praying for you Amy–Today’s the day right? Pray that our Heavenly Father has his guiding protective arms wrapped around your hospital and care givers. May He quiet any anxiety Suzi and you might have, along with quieting any physical pain you might go through. Remember His plans are always for your good and your future.
11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jer 29:11 NIV AMEN
    Don’t forget to update us…

  8. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Hi all, Suzy here. Wanted to report that Amy’s surgery went well and she is comfortably ensconced in a room waiting for the spinal block to wear off to see if she can go home tonight, or she’ll spend the night.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Thanks so much for the information Suzy. Give Amy our love!

    • kinthenorthwest Says:

Hey Suzy —tell we praying for her quick recovery. Praying for you too, for I know it is not easy for you either. .
You two are the greatest…Looking forward to another breakfast some day..

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks, y’all – I so appreciate your prayers for both Suzy and me!

I am back in our handicap accessible hotel room. Yep!

And my PT is just walking. For real. Having to do some post op ankle flexes, quad press, and buttocks clinching every hour. Other than that, every hour I am awake, walk 3-5 minutes. So grateful for that!

Thanks again, and Kin, once you’re in SD, I won’t love to have a meal with you!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

What wonderful news! We couldn’t be happier for you.

Prayers will continue as will good thoughts.

Wow, can’t believe you are out of the hospital so quickly after a major surgery.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks so much, Marge and kin – I appreciate it!

Sleep did not come easily last night, unfortunately. Between the pain and pain meds (I’m a little hyper, so pain meds don’t knock me out – they wake me up), it was difficult, but I plan to rest today as much as possible. In the meantime, I continue to do all of my exercises and try NOT to overdo it.

Your prayers continue to be appreciated! Thank you!

      • kinthenorthwest Says:

Boy that was quick–praying for a speedy recovery and that you are home soon.
