Another Week Begins

Happy Monday, a reminder & a giveaway - One Happy Mama

I like to begin my week with a sampling of what’s being “talked” about around the internet.  I try to include some articles that are off the beaten path.  Different voices, not just the most popular or well known usually teach us something.

They are in no particular order – just as I found them.

I hope you find them a good start to a new week.

Today’s quotes are from Lailah Gifty Akita

She is a Ghanaian and founder of Smart Youth Volunteers Foundation. She obtained a BSc in Renewable Natural Resources Management at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi-Ghana.

She also had MPhil in Oceanography at the University of Ghana. She obtained a doctorate in Geosciences at International Max Planck Research School for Global Biogeochemical Cycles-Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Germany ( June 2011 to March 2016).

Lailah is an influential lady with the passion of empowering the mind of young people to make a great difference.

I used her quotes to show a woman of color who truly celebrates her life and life itself. She should be an inspiration to every young black woman as she epitomizes what a woman can be, even in a place like Ghana if she is willing to work and fight for her life and the life of others.

More Than 1 Million Voters Have Switched To The Republican Party In Last Year, Data Shows

By Joseph Curl

The times they are a-changin’.

While the mainstream media went wall-to-wall throughout the weekend with breathless coverage of protests over the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday overturning Roe v. Wade, a new report says more than 1 million Americans have switched to the Republican Party in the last 12 months.

“A political shift is beginning to take hold across the U.S. as tens of thousands of suburban swing voters who helped fuel the Democratic Party’s gains in recent years are becoming Republicans,” the Associated Press reported.

“More than 1 million voters across 43 states have switched to the Republican Party over the last year, according to voter registration data analyzed by The Associated Press. The previously unreported number reflects a phenomenon that is playing out in virtually every region of the country — Democratic and Republican states along with cities and small towns — in the period since President Joe Biden replaced former President Donald Trump.”

Are Joe Biden and Dianne Feinstein too old to do their jobs?

By Nicholas Goldberg

It should go without saying, of course, that there’s no shame in getting old. Each of us, if all goes well, will someday get wrinkles and our hair will thin and, over time, our strength and vitality will decline.

Senator Feinstein, who turned 89 last week, has kicked off a heated national debate by refusing to step down from her job even as people begin to clamor about her age and competence.

She is hardly alone among her peers in clinging to power as she ages. Famously, Ruth Bader Ginsburg sat unbudgingly on the Supreme Court until she died at age 87. (Remember how she fell asleep during the State of the Union address in 2015?)

There’s House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), who is 82 and apparently going strong. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is 80, and he’s waiting to become senate majority leader again if Republicans win control in November.

Incumbency turns out to be a very pleasant place, and power an aphrodisiac that is difficult to give up — to the point that the word “gerontocracy” has suddenly become common.

Is this a problem? I think it is. In Feinstein’s case, it is especially so because of the parade of reports on her cognitive diminishment, including a San Francisco Chronicle article in which sources described her memory as “rapidly deteriorating” and a New York Times story that described her increasing “befuddlement.”

But even beyond the issue of cognition, isn’t there a point at which we all become slower, less relevant and less attuned to the changing world around us?

I realize that people live longer these days and that some people are more competent than others as they age (and that voters theoretically take that into account at the polls). But I still think it’s troubling to be led by so many people who came of age in a distant, nearly unrecognizable era. At some point, government becomes sclerotic, stagnant and backward-looking and requires new blood.

The two most prominent exemplars of the trend are Donald Trump and Joe Biden. In 2017, Trump was the oldest person ever to become president. He was 70. Four years later, that record was smashed by his successor, Biden, who was 78 when he was sworn in.

And now — and this is the mind-boggling part — both Trump and Biden are thinking of running again.

We Are Witnessing What Happens When Unrestrained Youth Gets Power

By Vince Coyner

If the country remains on its current path, one of coddling youth and ever-increasing cries of victimhood combined with the acceptance of rampant crime, ubiquitous homelessness, and public drug abuse as the price of addressing “inequality,” it will lead to an acceleration of the breakdown of civilization. As more citizens feel like they cannot rely on government to provide security and enforce societal norms, they will increasingly take matters into their own hands.

They will look for vigilantes like a Charles Bronson character to step into the gap or, more likely, many will choose to arm themselves as they increasingly feel they need to become the next Bernhard Goetz.

But 2022 America is not 1994 New York… indeed it’s worse. Thugs are bolder, crimes are more widespread and, most of all, today everyone feels vulnerable because they see videos of horrific crimes every single day, often in the parking lots of stores they frequent, at the gas stations where they fill up, or in the subways they ride every day. That’s a powder keg filled with 100 million armed Americans who are tired and frustrated and feel let down by a government that no longer cares about them.

Title IX reminds us that the cultural left will lose

By Ben Domenech

This week marked the fiftieth anniversary of Title IX, the Richard Nixon-era policy designed to move toward more equitable treatment of the sexes in higher education. It should have been an unequivocally celebratory moment for advocates of women’s sports in America. Instead, the Title IX festivities were uncomfortable, newly complicated by the extremism of woke leftists, who are attempting to redefine what it means to be a woman.

The most prominent example of this over the past year has been Lia Thomas, whose performance as a biological male competing against biological females in NCAA swimming became a national story. Sports journalist Ethan Strauss summarized Thomas’s importance:

Lia Thomas, as you might remember, is a biological male who switched from the men’s team at Penn to the women’s and started setting records. We might refer to Thomas as an avatar and tentpole for the Thomas Movement, an effort by activists to erase the sex boundary in sports. Though much of the public is solidly against this sort of thing, Thomas had institutional support from the Ivy League and ACLU, among other activist organizations.

While the Biden administration stayed mum on the Thomas situation specifically, it endorsed accepting transgender girls on girls’ sports teams while pushing for a federal Equality Act that would codify such a right.

It’s apt that the week of Title IX’s fiftieth began with a defense of womanhood. Thomas, who has Olympic ambitions, received a major setback when the world’s governing swimming body voted overwhelmingly to ban transgender athletes who had transitioned past the age of 12 from competing in women’s events, and instead to consider “open competition” events should enough demand exist. According to a spokesman for the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), the point was to acknowledge what everyone can see: that biological men competing against biological women have a distinct advantage:

Fascinating Facts About Roses That You Probably Didn’t Know

Archaeologists have discovered rose fossils that date back 35 million years. Even more shocking, the oldest living rose is 1,000 years old. This impressively enduring rose grows on a wall on the Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany.

Who knew looking pretty in a vase wasn’t the only way to use roses in the kitchen? Their petals are edible and rose water (made from soaking the petals in water) is often added to jellies or jams, or is used as flavoring in Indian and Chinese dishes. Roses also grow a berry-shaped fruit called rose hips. The fruit can be orange, red, dark purple, or even black. Rose hips are packed with vitamin C and can be used in cocktails or dried to create a refreshing tea.

You know the saying: Stop and smell the roses. Well, roses weren’t chosen for this phrase by chance; their lovely aroma is a popular floral scent, and is even used in many women’s perfumes. Specifically, rose oil has been an important ingredient in the perfume industry for centuries. The process of extracting rose oil from flowers requires a huge amount of roses; just one gram of oil is produced from two thousand roses.

President Ronald Reagan declared the rose the national flower emblem of the U.S. in 1986. He did so while standing in the famous White House Rose Garden.

Be well. Be safe.

Beware the “woke folk” .

I can’t get the image to show so in order to see it you will have to click on it. I usually just pass on ones like this but just couldn’t this time.

How on earth could a mother of 3 beautiful children make them hold that terrible sign? Is she so stupid she doesn’t see what she’s telling those kids? Does Daddy have no say in this? If he does then he’s no kind of man.

Whatever their reasons those three children belong in a home where there is love for them. They belong where there is respect for life and a mother who is thrilled to have such a wonderful family. I cannot express, in decency, my utter and complete disgust and loathing for this woman.

Another ruling from the SCOTUS, this time in support of RELIGIOUS FREEDOM:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Isn’t this wonderful? 3 wins in a row from SCOTUS!

I see that Gorsuch wrote this one. Glad to see that. I think because he isn’t a text book conservative many thought he might not protect our constitutional rights. In this case he certainly did.

And the evil triplets denied the Coach his first amendment right.

Great post – love the quotes from that delightful young woman!

    Excellent articles and cartoons, too.

The information on roses was fascinating! I knew abt rose water (love Indian and Chinese food, though Suzy is allergic to rose water), and I have heard of rose hips, but I didn’t know what they are.

WOW abt the 1,000 yr old rose!!!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

TY and isn’t Lailah Gifty Akita an amazing young woman? Her life hasn’t been easy and still she has a love of and for life. She’s admirable.

Isn’t that amazing about the 1000 year old rose? I knew they could get very old and I have one myself that is over 40. I just dug it up and took it with me twice and it seems to thrive. It’s a “Peace Rose” and Lou knew how much I loved it and how much it meant to me to bring ti from the place where I lost Michelle so he’s always taken special care with it. It always has at a lot of roses but always has at least one and never more than 2 huge blossoms that are so beautiful they make your heart hurt.

The roses in the picture below are very close to to the color of mine. I couldn’t find one exactly – mine is a little darker pink on the edges and as big as a salad plate. And aren’t the buds ust beautiful?

I don’t know what it looks like now without Lou’s TLC and I really don’t try to see it.

The red roses out front are a blanket of red – dozens – hundreds of blossoms. Those I can see by looking out the front porch. Lovely and they both bloom until fall. Both were climbers – one yellow and one salmon but went back to their “roots” and are now wild and red and free. Not sure I don’t like them better this way.

This is the only ad Sen. Scott is going to have to run here in SC – this SC State Rep. talking abt infiltrating the Rep. Party here and wondering where all of her drug money is:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

She just proves what so many of us have come to believe – the Democrats have become the party of thugs and criminals.

Tim Scott shouldn’t have a trouble getting re-elected anyway – he seems like one of the good ones.

  6. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

So abt the Speaker of the House of the UNITED STATES shoving aside the child of Mayra Flores, this is really something:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Wasn’t that repulsive? There’s that sweet little girl all dressed up to get her picture taken on her Mother’s special day and that vile old woman does a thing like that.

Mayra was right – her daughter behaved like a queen. Pelosi behave like a thug. I wouldn’t think that would go over real well in the Hispanic community.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I told Suzy that Mayra and all conservative Hispanics should be HAMMERING Pelosi for her blatant anti-brown racism. At every chance they get, they should highlight how the Speaker of the US House elbowed a little brown girl away from her, surely out of racism, clearly.

Turnabout is fair play after all, only in THIS case, unlike the constant attacks on conservatives, there is likely some truth to it…

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

This is outrageous. The lawyers who just won the gun case in NY have been essentially fired from their law firm. Let me say that again – the lawyers who WON their case have essentially been FIRED from their law firm (h/t to Dan Bongino for mentioning this):

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Good for them for refusing to obey and for resigning. I expect they will start their own firm and do quite well. After all they did win in front of the Supreme Court and that’s not a resume everyone can claim.

  8. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Dr. Birx – remember her?! – essentially shrugged her shoulders and said, “I dunno,” in response to Rep. Jordan asking if the government lied or didn’t know when they told people that the vaxxed wouldn’t get the Wuhan Flu:

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Good for Smith & Wesson for standing up to the Lunatic Left:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

That is fantastic! About time gun manufacturers fought back. If they don’t they won’t have a company to worry about.

  10. kenoshamarge Says:

  11. SOAR Says:

In light of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, let us not forget President Trump’s principled determination to follow through on the appointment and confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to succeed Ruth Bader Ginsburg as Associate Justice.

Senator Mitch McConnell, who has often been described as a Republican in name only, deserves credit for having the courage to expedite the hearings just 38 days before the 2020 election. McConnell told the president, “This was the hardest fight of my life.”

    — We Are Witnessing What Happens When Unrestrained Youth Gets Power —

I was actually thinking about this the other day and have come to the conclusion that our youth-oriented culture is a by-product of advertising, technology and poor parenting. Each succeeding generation has become more self-absorbed and narcissistic than the last.

My parents grew up on a farm. They didn’t have television. Their day began at 5 am. There was no internet, or cell phones — only hard work and school.

Compare that with the Tik Tok generation that was born with an iPhone as an appendage. Their days are spent on Instagram and a multitude of social media platforms. It’s beneath them to work at McDonald’s so they create their own job such as Social Media Influencer — whatever the hell that is.

The young are so self-important that the rest of us must yield to their will. Parents abdicated their role even as public schools failed so long ago.

Society never had the courage to tell young people to back it up and this only empowered them to become even more annoying and obnoxious.

Older generations never had the luxury of being spoiled.

  12. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It’s abt damn time these laws enabling illegals to take advantage of our system were stopped, ESPECIALLY our right to VOTE:

  13. SOAR Says:

The “January 6” hearings are a kangaroo court with a leftist political agenda. The narrative is that President Trump incited the riots that overtook the capitol on that day in 2021. Really? So, when Maxine Waters says, “To hell with the Supreme Court”, or when AOC claims that the Supreme Court is illegitimate, and calls for escalated protests, or Chuck Schumer bellows, “This isn’t over!” — that’s okay?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

For them, yeah – it is. It’s stunning to see how this Party has devolved.

Btw, my post tomorrow is very much on this topic.

      Nice to *see* you, SOAR!

  14. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am sure that there are going to be more people coming out with HUGE regret for caving to the transition drumbeat:
