The Daily Caller Continues To Call Out Media Matters; Following The Money

by

And it is amazing just where the money leads when it comes to Media Matters. Oh, some of the donors are predictable. You know, like George Soros-aligned created organizations, for instance. But there are some surprises in there, and some pretty large amounts of money. And again, bear in mind that this is a non-profit, a 501 (c)3.

So, let’s get to it:

[snip] The list of Media Matters’ foundation funders, 120 in all, reads like a Who’s Who of the American progressive movement, including the far-left Tides Foundation ($4,384,702), George Soros’ Open Society Institutes ($1,075,000), the Ford Foundation ($966,466), the Sandler Foundation ($400,000) — endowed by subprime mortgage lenders Herb and Marion Sandler, who once bankrolled the embattled ACORN organization — and the Schumann Fund for Media and Democracy ($600,000), managed by longtime PBS host Bill Moyers and his son.

They also include the anti-George W. Bush organization MoveOn.org ($50,000), the Barbra Streisand Foundation ($85,000), the kids’ shoes-powered Stride Rite Charitable Foundation ($25,000), the Lear Family Foundation ($55,000) — endowed by the TV producer and People for the American Way founder Norman Lear — and the Joyce Foundation ($400,000), whose board of directors included Barack Obama from 1994 to 2002.

The Joyce Foundation grant, made in 2010, was earmarked for ”a gun and public safety issue initiative.” That program, judging from the ensuing Media Matters coverage, included scathing reports on the shooting-sports lobby and on the firearms industry’s annual convention. “To lure repeat buyers,” that story warned, “increased lethality has become the nicotine of the firearms industry.”[snip]

Ahahaha, that last one is funny. Wanna know why? Here it is:

2010 was also, TheDC reported Monday, the year when Media Matters founder David Brock’s personal assistant was carrying a holstered and concealed Glock handgun when he accompanied Brock to events.[snip](Click here to read the rest.)

I know, their hypocrisy is SUCH a shock. Ahem.

The Daily Caller has compiled two separate lists from their research. The first is a list of the donors to the Media Matters Foundation. You’ll note that the Tides Foundation is the heavy hitter in this list, founded by Drummond Pike. His name might be familiar to you. He bailed out scandal-plagued founder of ACORN, Wade Rathke a few years back. And Rathke, that pillar of the community, was a Tides board member. Nice, eh?

There is more in the Daily Caller article about the Tides Foundation, the Open Society Institute, which is a George Soros funded agency, and Media Matters. It makes for an interesting read, that’s for sure.

The second list is a spreadsheet of all the grants given to Media Matters. The name “Barbra Streisand” jumped out at me. There are other names there, too, that you might recognize. The article goes into more depth in highlighting some of them.

It sure is intriguing to see just who has provided either donations or grants to Media Matters. A bunch of heavy hitters, to be sure.

And they are having a mighty big effect on our news outlets if one considers the constant harangue of Fox News Channel by Media Matters, those who work there, whether they are on air personalities, or the person behind the camera. Bob Beckel mentioned the other night that they have gone after him for lowering himself to be on Fox. But another person they have harassed was Pat Robertson. Robertson was one of, what, TWO? Conservatives on MSNBC. Well, at long last, they were successful in their efforts to get him off the air. Yes, even in the midst of this major expose, with their incredibly partisan activities being highlighted, they continued to go after this man. Now he is gone. This headline from The Daily Caller says it all: “Media Matters Does Victory Lap Over Buchanan’s Exit.” Yep, that sums it up alright.

The direction Media Matters has steered our media has been singularly unhelpful to the American people. It has left us with what amounts to a propaganda arm of the Democratic Party, evidence of which abounds, even in this recent issue of the Presidential Fiat. It is disturbing in the extreme.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens to media Matters as a result of this investigation. Will mainstream outlets pick it up? Will they retain their tax exempt status? All that remains to be seen. Until then, we’ll just have to keep following the money…

I am not so sure anything will be done to media matters. Other than many of the citizen journalists on the internet, most journalism has sunk to being paid shills.
Journalistic ethics is so yesterday. Journalism has become legal prostitution
