Historian? Theologian? Or Apologist? *Open Thread*

Obama’s absurd comments at the National Prayer Breakfast Thursday are having a major ripple effect. Just in case anyone has missed what Obama said Thursday, here it is:

If you prefer NOT to watch it, and I can truly appreciate that sentiment, Legal Insurrection presented the text as recorded by the AP News:

[…] President Barack Obama on Thursday condemned those who seek to use religion as a rationale for carrying out violence around the world, declaring that “no god condones terror.”

“We are summoned to push back against those who would distort our religion for their nihilistic ends,” Obama said during remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast. He singled out the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, calling the militants a “death cult,” as well as those responsible for last month’s terror attacks in Paris and deadly assault on a school in Pakistan…

Obama had a more non-denominational message for the audience that also included prominent leaders of non-Christian faiths. The president said that while religion is a source for good around the world, people of all faiths have been willing to “hijack religion for their own murderous ends.”

“Unless we get on our high horse and think that this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ,” Obama said. “In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ. “So it is not unique to one group or one religion,” Obama said. “There is a tendency in us, a simple tendency that can pervert and distort our faith.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Wow. Just freakin’ wow. Clearly, neither Obama nor ANY of his speechwriters have ever bothered to actually read any HISTORY on the Crusades. Hell, they coulda just gone to Wikipedia to learn just a little bit before making this insane comparison, and perhaps learn the ORIGINS of the Crusades.

Honestly, these comments by the president are absurd on oh-so-many levels. It is astonishing that Obama would make these comments, that he would compare events from a THOUSAND years ago, ones that were in response to centuries of Muslim invasions, not to mention the Inquisition, Jim Crow, etc., to the barbaric, insane, inhumane, horrific acts by radical Islamic extremists. Charles Krauthammer discussed all of this on Special Report Thursday night (via Legal Insurrection):

And clearly, Obama is no theologian. He has proven that point repeatedly, too. But his claims about how Christians acted centuries ago, including last century in our country, as a way to get off our “high horse” on the murderous terror attacks by radical Islamists is astonishing. As Robert Jeffress noted, Christianity does NOT preach killing others, nor are there any prescriptions in the New Testament to that end. The same cannot be said, he explained, in the Koran, where there are numerous such calls against “infidels.”

No kidding. And that is why Obama has shown he is neither a historian nor a theologian. Either one worth their salt would NEVER make such a pronouncement without considering the historical, cultural, sociological, theological mores of the time. Obama clearly did NONE of those things before equating Christians to ISIS/Islamic extremists. It continues to be a false equivalency and says WAY more about him and how he thinks than he might have wanted to reveal. Or maybe he did.

Then again, maybe he was just doing the beck and call of whoever the “Muslim leaders” were who were meeting with Obama on Wednesday. We can’t know, though, since the “Transparent” White House won’t tell us even who they WERE. Thankfully, intrepid sites like the Detroit Free Press and Breitbart have ferreted out some of them. And just wait until you see who they are. You’ll understand why Obama kept it quiet, AND why he came out blaming Christians for retaliating against Muslims a thousand years ago. From Breitbart:

[…] Breitbart News has uncovered the names of seven of the American Muslim leaders in attendance.

Comedian and left-wing pundit Dean Obeidallah revealed that he was one of the fifteen Muslim-American “leaders” brought to the White House on Wednesday afternoon.

“The No.1 issue raised: The alarming rise in anti-Muslim bigotry in America,” Obeidallah said of the meeting with the President. Their chief collective concern was not the rise of the Sunni Islamic State, nor the expansion of the Caliphatist Shiite Iranian regime and its messianic drive towards nuclear weapons, but instead, “anti-Muslim bigotry in America.”

Also at the event was Hoda Elshishtawy of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC). MPAC was founded by members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. The group has written a position paper rejecting the United States’s designation of Hezbollah and Hamas as terrorist organizations, and has insisted that the Jewish state of Israel be added as a state sponsor of terrorism. The group’s former president, Salam al-Marayati, has also publicly entertained that Israel should be considered a suspect in the 9/11/01 attacks against America. He has said that Hezbollah’s attacks against Israel should be seen as “legitimate resistance,” according to Ryan Mauro of the Clarion Foundation.

Elshishtawy revealed that Dr. Sherman Jackson, who serves as the King Faisal Chair of Islamic Thought at the University of Southern California, was also at the meeting. One lecture Dr. Jackson gave has been described as a “call to battle” between Muslims and the West.

The Detroit Free Press revealed the names of three additional individuals who were in the meeting: Azhar Azeed, president of the Muslim Brotherhood-founded Islamic Society of North America (ISNA); Rahat Hussain, the Legislative Policy Director for Shiite advocacy group UMAA; and Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir, a women who played college basketball while wearing an Islamic hajib.

The Detroit Free Press also revealed that senior Obama advisers Valerie Jarrett and Ben Rhodes were present in the Muslim leaders’ meeting. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

It has all become a little clearer now, hasn’t it? Sure has made it clear to me. That people from Muslim Brotherhood-based groups were in our White House is beyond disturbing. And it sure does explain Obama’s Apologist comments yesterday and other times previously. It is just mind-boggling that this is the President we have. WOW.

This cartoon by Branco at Legal Insurrection really does sum up Obama’s comments and policies better than I ever could:

Terrorist-Ahoy

Yep – that says it all. Now it’s time for your say!

        LOL, Foxy – exactly!!

He could have turned into a bitter human after the accident that left him in the wheelchair. I don’t always agree with him either, but I think the guy is usually spot on.

      • mcnorman Says:

Wouldn’t you love to sit across the table from this man at dinner time?

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Absolutely!! What a treat that would be, huh? And I love that he is such a big baseball fan, too,

You are so right, mcnorman – he could have ended up bitter, or not completed med school, but he didn’t let that accident stop him. He is a funny man, that’s for sure. He is often talking abt such serious topics that he doesn’t get to show it too often, but oh, my – when he does, he is funny!

  2. foxyladi14 Says:

    Well said Amy.
Here is what Rev. Graham had to say. 🙂

    http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2015/02/evangelist-franklin-graham-responds-to-obamas-attack-on-christians-at-prayer-breakfast/

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

He is exactly right. Jesus was very clear abt what was most important: loving God, and loving others as oneself. He constantly preached love, not hate. That is the exact opposite of some of the messages in the Koran, especially regarding the “infidels.”

    • kinthenorthwest Says:

I am so tired of hearing how Christians/Conservatives did ?? and ?? and ???
Yet most of it is so long ago in the History of the world that it has and is a non-issue.
Now look at the current issues of the Muslims…
If you a woman improperly dressed by their standards- Behead her/Stone her…
      If you are gay-Behead them…
If you become a Christian — Behead them…
If you get raped- you get beheaded…
And damn the list just keeps on going and growing.
All the things that the Dems/Obama accuse the Christians and Conservatives of being against; the Muslims actually treat as a very severe crime punishable by death, burning, stoning or ??? horrendous punishment. My biggest question is why doesn’t most of America see this, and when or will they ever wake up to it all.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is the question, and why they remain silent in the face of gay men being thrown off buildings and women being stoned to death, or children being crucified. They seem to want to point out how bad Americans and Christians are, and hesitant to highlight how bad these terrorists are.

Along those lines, Juan Williams was talking abt closing Gitmo today after the Dep. Sec. of Defense used the talking point that it incites more terrorism. FINALLY, one of the Congresspeople asked for FACTS to support that claim. Gitmo wasn’t around when the Towers were attacked in the ’90’s, or the barracks in Beirut were blown up, or the USS Cole was attacked, or when the Towers were hit again on 9/11. But according to Williams, places like Gitmo incite these terrorists.

That’s crap. No matter HOW much we tie ourselves into knots trying to appease them, NOTHING will ever be enough. Why in the HELL do they not realize this? We could close down Gitmo, we could pull all of our people back from the Middle East, and that would NOT be enough for them. They want us DSTROYED – and all the kowtowing in the world will not change that.

        Just infuriating. UGH.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yes it most definitely is unbelievable, and disgusting as all get out.

One upside, though: NASA can stop its ridiculous program at OUR expense to make Muslims in the ME feel good abt their scientific accomplishments, at least as far as ISIS is concerned. Ahem.

  4. kinthenorthwest Says:

Thanks Amy—I do believe that Obama’s true colors have emerging, yet its a bit too late…So much damage has been done already and so many people have ignored it already that I am not sure there is any turning back.

  5. kenoshamarge Says:

That wonderful Branco cartoon, absolutely perfect!

  6. kinthenorthwest Says:

Just got home from work, and I see this article by West that really emphasized what I said earlier. Put in a bit of the piece.
Obama revealed his true colors at Prayer Breakfast, and true ignorance of history
I have a simple recommendation for President Obama — don’t attend any more National Prayer Breakfasts. The angst created by these ill-conceived words is just not worth it — better to just not be there, than to be there and call into question your loyalties to the Judeo-Christian faith heritage of America.

Obama once again attempted to lecture us and failed miserably. ISIS is Islamic, they are militant Islamists and they represent an evil that came from a man who went rogue and used a religious belief as a means to an end — power. Now, that should have been the crux of Obama’s comments, but I suppose those “undisclosed” Muslim leaders with whom he met had a different idea.

Mr. President, true, you are not running again, and true, you did win twice. But even truer, you are damning your reputation as a president and may never hold any regard or esteem of the American people. Then again, perhaps that was always your aim, as you fundamentally transform our beloved Constitutional Republic.

    • kinthenorthwest Says:

Ok part is missing—It was supposed to say it also emphasized what you said too Amy.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks for this, Kin – I had an email from him in my Inbox, but hadn’t gotten to it yet. You saved me the trouble! 🙂

And that is a damn good recommendation for Obama – stop going to these prayer breakfasts. Stop disregarding the will of the people. Yep, good points from Allen West.

        Thanks!

what are the dems afraid of in the speech?. They might even learn something about defending the country. guess that is against their beliefs

    • kinthenorthwest Says:

Mostly its the black caucus not going to attend…
Can anyone tell me why we still have a Black Caucus…or for that matter Black Entertainment Awards ….
H3LL if we had a White Caucus it will get cremated.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is just so wrong. Biden is showing great disrespect, especially since the whole election excuse has been exposed to be a lie since they have people over there working against Netanyahu. What a bunch of schmucks…

were the democrats always this ugly and crazy and we just did not see it? Did a mask come off in 2008 and the true colors out?
I feel like I should apologize to all the people that I argued the dem ideals with. I was very wrong.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I often wonder the same thing Helen. And I cringe to remember the years when I thought I was a Democrat. I say thought because if they were always like this then we may have belonged to the Democrat party but we, you and I and millions of others like us, were never Democrats.

They may have fooled us but we are deceived no more. It makes me slightly nauseous to know how long I gave them my vote.

We can all thank God for the Internet and a way to get actual information without the bias of the media creeping in. Well creeping in then, galloping in now.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I have to believe they weren’t this bad, though I know that I have come to realize how much crap I was fed, and BELIEVED, before my eyes were fully open. I know I am embarrassed at how much I used to be like them, and like you, Helen, argued FOR the DNC. Those days are long gone, though.

Marge, good point abt what we THOUGHT it meant to be a Dem. Yeah, I think they fooled us for a while, but no more. And no more of my votes either, I might add.

  10. HELENK3 Says:

for a long time I have thought that backtrack was a member of the muslim brotherhood. He certainly acts like one. We really have to face the fact that he will put islam before America. This is a new thing for America to have to deal with, every president before no matter what their party was loyal to America. We can never let this happen again. Every one who runs for office must be vetted. We can not count on the main stream press to do that anymore. The educational system is dumbing down our future voters which will be a big problem.
We are under attack from within and we better wake up to that fact real soon or there will not be an America like the one where we were lucky enough to grow up

      Learning something new
“If there is one term I would expunge from contemporary political discourse and cast into the outer darkness forever, the term would be RINO, “Republican In Name Only.” Not least because all of those who use it are ignorant of the history of the Republican Party. Progressivism began in the Republican Party; the first progressive president proudly to label himself as such was Theodore Roosevelt, and unlike his equally progressive cousin Franklin, he was no Democrat.

When we consider the fact that the modern Republican Party is more or less divided into three factions — one representing the “establishment,” strongest on the East Coast; one conservative, probably strongest in the South and Midwest; and the Libertarian wing, probably strongest in the West — it behooves us to remember that the latter two are the johnny-come-latelys.”

    • piper Says:

The Democrats on the other side
“A problem arises when we consider that the Democratic Party is divided into only two factions: doctrinaire, revolutionary Leftists, and brain-dead, largely dependent, useful idiots who vote for them. In other words, party unity, through the process which V.I. Lenin called “democratic centralism,” is relatively easy for them to achieve. It therefore also behooves Republicans of whichever faction to consider what Benjamin Franklin famously said after signing the Declaration of Independence: “Gentlemen, we must all hang together or we shall all hang separately.”

    • piper Says:

Helen, Thanks for finding all these articles which I would make every high school and college student read and reread then test them on content.

      • HELENK3 Says:

you are more than welcome. Since we can no longer count on the msm for facts that do not mesh with the dem party and I have the time now, I love traveling the internet to see what is out there. I want to share the info and hope to get feedback from other people on the different stories. mI may not always get it right, but then when someone points it out, I learn from it.
