This whole Solyndra* business just burns me up. Over half a BILLION dollars went to pay off one of Obama’s cronies (others have received high profile jobs in his Administration, others have gotten money funneled to their companies, as I have noted previously). Solyndra going bankrupt shortly after getting a ton of our money is infuriating. Especially since the government (intentionally?) failed to do with it what it has traditionally done with companies to which it lends money – put the USA at the top of the creditors list. Never mind that the DOE knew it was a bad risk. Nope, not Solyndra – its leader was an Obama crony, so forget all those pesky little details. Joe Biden was, um, ecstatic about the loan (eww).
And now this. Solyndra was apparently busted for busting up a bunch of brand new stuff. Seriously. They were destroying it, according to this CBS article from San Francisco:
[snip]Forklifts brought one pallet after another piled high with the carefully packaged glass. Slowly but surely it all ended up shattered.
And it’s not a few loads. Hundreds of thousands of tubes on shrink-wrapped pallets will meet a similar demise.
Solyndra paid at least $2 million for the specialized glass. A CBS 5 crew found one piece lying in the parking lot. Solyndra still owes the German company that made the tubes close to another $8 million.
And they are DESTROYING these materials? Yep. They claim, according to the article, that it is too expensive to pay for storing the glass. And they added this:
[snip]An employee for Heritage Global Partners, the company in charge of selling Solyndra’s assets, told CBS 5 they conducted an exhaustive search for buyers but no one wanted them.
But how exhaustive was that search? The tubes were never included on the list of Solyndra assets put up for sale at two auctions last year.
If they were, David Lucky told CBS 5 he would have bought them. “We certainly would have bid on them, yes,” Lucky said.[snip] (Click here to read the rest.)
Instead, millions of dollars worth of glass being shattered to smithereens and thrown away. Brilliant.
Oh, and the German company who made the glass, and who are still owed a pretty penny (though apparently, $8 million just isn’t that much to some folks)? They had no idea the glass was being destroyed, according to the article. To use the acronym for Obama’s new campaign, WTF?
It just goes from bad to worse with Solyndra. They are LITERALLY throwing our money away. Unbelievable. And the band plays on. Or is it Obama campaigns on…
*I have written extensively about Solyndra. If you need or want any more background information on Solyndra, our “loan” to them, the emails from the White House to the DOE, this is the first one, here’s another one, or this one, just to list a few. All 18 of them are available in the archives.

EPA threatens North Dakota shale oil.
Yesterday it was reported that due to their fines an oil refinery in the Caribbean will close.
They do work for us, and not some ME oil country don’t they
January 23, 2012 at 3:14 pm |
Isn’t that just unbelievable? And Obama is planning on blathering on at the SOTU abt how much he has done for manufacturing. Please. His Admin. has done so much to make it so hard for so many different business arenas in this country, it isn’t even funny…

Well, you know with my recurring experiences of the pat down, I don’t feel one bit safer, either, and the molestation is reprehensible. It is downright stupid, in fact.

The irony, the irony, abt Bain Capital. Yet that won’t stop the Dems from attacking Romney wit it.
I don’t blame these dealers for not wanting the Volt. For heaven’s sake you never know when the thing will burst into flames!

Isn’t this just incredible?? How can there NOT be a budget for the United States of America??? WHY won’t the Dems pass one in the Senate? Why didn’t Pelosi in the House?
I think we all know the answer to that – they want to be able to blame the Reps for everything, and didn’t/don’t want anything to look bad for Obama. Pathetic.

backtrack blames Hillary for pipeline decision. Even his own bunch say she had nothing to do with it
January 23, 2012 at 6:13 pm |
Oh good grief – but of COURSE it is Hillary’s fault. He is SUCH a piece of work. SHEESH.
January 23, 2012 at 9:30 pm |
Hillary Clinton, who knows energy and specifically oil are part of a “robust” national security policy and has said so repeatedly, was FOR this deal. It was win win politics.Even with the state of Kansas taking issue with where the pipeline, all of 36 inches in diameter of it, was going to go they could have worked it out with all the drama. Drama is all you get when it is Pay to Play.
Here is a napkin sheet on it.
On the upside. another pipeline to Texas to replinish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, allow better control of supply and demand along the enitre distance from Canada to the gulf and beyond right down the middle of the country. Refineries, if allowed would spring up and provide the midwest with more distribution….give Canada a reason to remain “our niehbor to the north” and not China’s to the east.
On the down side? Obama. The responsibility falls to Obama as POTUS. His play is to pit to “vital” constituencies against each other for MONEY. That is called a kickback. The entire scope of the DOE loan program to the “alternative energy” sector is the setup for kickbacks. House of Cards. umph!
January 23, 2012 at 9:58 pm |
Teak thank you so much for this informative comment. You are so right abt the Down Side and Obama. He is so quick to place blame elsewhere when all the while, he and his buddies are making out like bandits one way or the other. With our money, I might add, and costing us money in one way or another. Not to mention jobs when it comes to the pipeline.
But yeah, sure – it’s all Hillary’s fault.
Tell me again why she ever agreed to work for this man?

Warren Buffett profits from veto of Keystone Pipeline

So is this why Buffett was playing his ukulele and wishing the Chinese a Happy New Year? Sounds like the whole Keystone thing is a happy new year for HIM, anyway.
I am so, so sick of Obama screwing the rest of this country to benefit his cronies. It is CRIMINAL. Or should be…
