The Heat Is On Boehner, DOJ, And ObamaCare *Open Thread*

by

And the “heat is on” in many of our homes, some more than others, I recognize (I know that many of you really do not want to hear about what it is like down here in Coastal South Carolina, but it is cold for US, so there’s that! It will get colder this week with the lows below freezing, if that helps any! I know, I know, shut up already…).

But the heat is REALLY on John Boehner is the vote for the Speakership of the House goes forward today (Tuesday). He is expected to win, but maybe, just maybe, the concerns of some of those who oppose him will be heard, For instance, one of his challengers, Rep. Ted Yoho, spoke out about reasons he is challenging Boehner. From Breitbart:

[…] He said that there is a lot of “discontent” with Boehner and mentioned that there are “a lot of people who are dissatisfied” with the direction of the country and the direction of Congress,” especially how bills are brought up. Yoho emphasized that bills should be “brought up on principle and not politics.”

Frustrated that Congress has not done much to hold Attorney General Eric Holder to account after he perjured himself with Congress and was held in contempt, Yoho vowed to hold the country’s elected leaders more accountable if he becomes the new Speaker. For instance, he emphasized that if Congress does nothing after Obama “oversteps the boundaries of the constitution with executive amnesty,” then that sets a terrible precedent for the rest of the country.

Yoho noted that “you get a breakdown of a society” if America is not a nation of laws.

“You are seeing a little bit more chaos than you did 20 years ago, he said.

Yoho said the electorate “handed us the baton in November to lead the country,” and “it is going to take new leadership willing to stand up” to Obama. He added that if Republicans give Americans new leadership and take the country in a new direction, then more Americans will “rally behind us and rally behind rebuilding America.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

I think many of us would agree that Holder AND Obama need to be held accountable for their illegal actions. A contempt citation for Holder just ain’t cutting it. And Obama has already declared that he just doesn’t give a damn about working with the new Congress. Obama fully intends to continue going his own way. SOMEONE needs to rein him in, and the House is a good place to start.

Speaking of Holder, he and the DOJ are in a bit of hot water thanks to intrepid journalist, Sharyl Attkisson. Attkisson is suing the bejeezus out of the DOJ for spying on her by hacking into her computer, not once, not twice, but THREE times:

Investigative Journalist Sharyl Attkisson has filed administrative claims under the Federal Tort Claims Act against the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Postal Service, and certain unnamed employees and/or agents of the federal government. Attkisson has also filed a lawsuit in the District of Columbia alleging certain violations of her constitutional rights based on information implicating the federal government in illegal electronic monitoring and surveillance of her home and business computers and phones from 2011 to 2013.

As outlined in the claims, three separate computer forensics exams revealed that intruders used sophisticated, remote capabilities to monitor Attkisson’s work. The intruders installed and periodically “refreshed” software used to exfiltrate data, obtain Attkisson’s passwords to various personal and work accounts, access the CBS News computer system, and monitor Attkisson’s audio using a Skype account. Forensics also revealed evidence of U.S. government-related involvement in the surveillance.

In May 2013, the Department of Justice issued a written response to questions from the news media stating, “To our knowledge, the Justice Department has never compromised Ms. Attkisson’s computers, or otherwise sought any information from or concerning any telephone, computer, or other media device she may own or use.”

Through a Freedom of Information Act request, Attkisson learned that the F.B.I. opened a case on her computer intrusions in June 2013, listing her as the victim, but the agency failed to interview her in the investigation or even notify her that one had been opened. Based on the government’s decision to ignore Attkisson’s requests, Attkisson and her family have chosen the only available option left to them. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Uh, yeah – and who can blame her? As many of here know, Attkisson, while at CBS, revealed a NUMBER of scandals in which this Administration, and the DOJ specifically in regard to “Fast and Furious.” She, unlike most of her mainstream contemporaries, actually investigated what happened at Benghazi. Consequently, the US Government took it upon itself to hack into her computer, and literally started deleting, before her very eyes, her work. Hey, if the House can’t make Holder abide by the law, maybe Attkisson can.

And finally, seems some of Obama’s biggest supporters of his signature legislation are finally realizing how it is going to impact THEM, and they don’t like it. Well, all I can say is, “TOLD YOU SO!!!” I mean, REALLY – how could they not have known this?? And the ones in this case to whom I am referring are HARVARD PROFESSORS. They are just now cluing in. Melissa Francis, a Harvard graduate, spoke about this Tuesday morning (h/t Facebook friend for article link). From Fox News Insider:

[…] In an op-ed in the school newspaper, The Crimson, 11 Harvard professors wrote, “The University … embarked on a secret and non-consultative planning process and disregarded the strong concerns that faculty have about their own health.”

Fox Business Network host and Harvard alum Melissa Francis said on “Fox and Friends” that these rising health care costs were a foreseeable part of the Affordable Care Act.

“Costs everywhere are going higher,” she said. “As a result, professors are going to face higher costs out of their paycheck and higher deductibles, and they’re outraged.”

“Many people could do math … if you add more people to the system, there was going to be a higher cost.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Well, no freakin’ DUH – what the hell did they expect, something for nothing??? Francis has been saying all along, as well as MOST economists (including GRUBER), that this law was gonna cost us and cost us big. Too bad they were so blinded by their partisan politics that they were unprepared for the reality of what this law means. We were not so encumbered, and know that many of us are being hard hit by these costs, thanks so much.

Yep, the heat is on, and there are more stories just like this. And because if you are anything like me, you are probably already hearing this song in your head, I will go ahead and add it here:

Feel free to add your two cents worth – this is an Open Thread!

Hacking, doxing, and general bullying of people on the internet is the realm of basement dwellers and assorted other riff raff. When the government, the NSA, this administrations and some of their cronies, decided it was morally acceptable behavior, it took on some really sinister connotations. People can shut you up, they can silence you, they can make it so unpleasant that you abandon whatever you are pursuing. You can become an an enemy of the state rather quickly. I really hope her lawsuit grows teeth and that the danger of this problem enters into the public consciousness.

Well said, insanity – you are so right. They have taken immorality and unethical behavior to a new low, and acting like it is a GOOD THING. It is just astonishing.

And yes you can become an enemy of the state mighty fast these days…

I hope Attkisson’s lawsuit grows teeth, too. She is not a lightweight, not by a LONG shot, and they may have met their match with her…

    Great post as always Amy.
    I hope John loses. 😀

Thanks so much, Foxy. It sure will be interesting – seems there is growing discontent against Boehner. I know Gutfeld said that Boehner was an adult, and he raised some SERIOUS bucks for the Reps, but that is not the primary concern to US – the primary concern to US is upholding the law, reining in illegal behavior, and standing up for the people, to name a few. So, yeah, while the Rep. representatives might care abt the money Boehner has raised, I care more abt what he has and has not done as Leader.

Awwwww!!! That is so cute Marge. 🙂

I just love to watch the squirrels in my yard. Several follow me around like puppy dogs. (It might have something to do with the nuts I keep in my pockets.) When I saw this image I immediately made it my desktop. Then I decided to share. Glad you liked it.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Suzy is always commenting on how fat our squirrels are – teehee!

I have a cousin who HATES the squirrels getting into the bird seed. I don’t care – if they can figure out how to get to it, I say more power to ’em! And I think they are cute, so there’s that. 🙂

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

A deer just showed up in the yard. It is EARLY! Smart, though, since there is lots of food out there still…

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

OHMYGOSH – that is incredible! I was JUST thinking this morning if the National Enquirer was going to be the reputable news source considering the fluff pieces the mainline papers are doing, like the NY Times’ piece on Obama’s governing like his golf game (can you imagine them EVERY writing something like that abt Dubya?? Oh, wait, no – because he gave up golf during his presidency after the war started.). And the Edwards’ story was just the one I thought of when I was reflecting on this (due to the character assassinations in which they engage against ANYONE with an R by their name, like the formerly most popular governor in the country, who, had she had a D by her name, would be lauded up one side and down the other for all she accomplished, as well as for her ethics and integrity).

My, oh, my – how the mighty are falling, and at the hands of the National Enquirer no less! Thanks, Foxy!

    Another find
“For the last couple of years, President Obama keeps claiming that the recession was the worst economy since the Great Depression. But this is not correct. This is the worst “recovery” since the Great Depression.” – economist John Lott

I just watched the swearing in.
Carry on folks, Business as usual. 👿

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I don’t know if y’all watched Special Report last night, but speaking of cute, this Poodle’s reaction to seeing its owner is ADORABLE:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I saw it last night but am so glad you found it. I told Lou about it but that couldn’t begin to show how cute. Now I can show him.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, good! Glad you can show him now. I swear, my dogs are happy to see me, but NEVER this much! 🙂

And speaking of dogs, we got a very nice sympathy card from our vet today for Dorothy. They included a piece of paper with her paw print on it. You know that got me crying all over again. Bless her heart. Hard to believe it has been a week. I still keep looking for her, or waiting for her to come out of the bedroom, or to come running with her cute ears streaming behind her…

  10. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, good grief – again, facts mean absolutely NOTHING to these people. This is precisely what I knew Democrats were going to do with this ginned up attack on Scalise. It is deplorable, and this continued use of race bating, of depicting people as racists, a loathsome charge for which there is no defense (as Charles Krauthammer stated oh-so-well a few years ago – video below): http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/campaign-ads/228663-dem-group-targets-scalise-in-new-spanish-language-ads

    And here is Dr. Krauthammer:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Race-baiting is all they have left. The voters showed what they thought of the Dems last November. The “War on Women” fizzled miserably and ObamaCare is less popular than ever.

Now the idiot “protesters” with their stupid chants disrupting and invading the malls are making their race-baiting less popular all the time. Disrupting a ceremony for a 100 year old vet, really? They thought that would gain them some attention but did they stop to think how much dislike it would garner?

The left is flailing in desperation and I suspect that even the lying, corrupt media isn’t going to be able to save them unless the GOP does something incredibly stupid. I don’t think that standing by Scalise is stupid. He did nothing wrong.

Obama on the other hand sat in Reverend Wright’s church for 20 years and listened to him “God Damn America”. And the media yawned.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Precisely, Marge – it is really astonishing.

I could not believe that abt the protestors and the vet. WTH??? And do they think no black people go to brunch, either? So racist those folks.

Let’s hope this is the end of that insanity.

Meanwhile, there is more going on in France…

  11. kenoshamarge Says:

AP’s Matt Lee to State Dept’s Psaki: “So The Cubans Don’t Have To Actually Do Anything?”

Quick, look, an actual AP Reporter doing his job. And Pinheaded Psaki doing hers, bobbing, weaving, obfuscating and looking like a fool. Perhaps in her case if it looks like a duck…

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No kidding – no one is more surprised by that than me abt an AP “reporter,” but good for him for highlighting what an obscene effort this was by Obama – once again, he gives away the store and gets NOTHING in response. Nothing. It is just lunacy. And I have to say, it does lend some credence to complaints that he capitulates to a certain type of leader rather than standing up for Americans.

I think the release of the Gitmo detainees would support that as well…

Btw, Marge – I wanted to tell you that our newspaper puts up the best political cartoons of the week on the weekend, and MANY of them were ones you provided here! 🙂

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I have a “folder” bulging at the seams with cartoons and most days it is really difficult to choose which ones to use. Anything anti-MSM usually makes the cut and Branco and Michael Ramirez are such geniuses the almost always are included. But then there’s Eric Allie and Lisa Benson, both prime favorites of mine. The list goes on and on.

If your paper includes many of the same cartoons it must not be a left-wing rag. Hooray for you!

And speaking of anti-media cartoons I think this one is sheer genius.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, my – yes, that sounds just abt right!

Our paper has its moments, and I know it is better than many in that regard.

What a great list, and such talented people! All I can say is, keep ’em coming! 🙂
