Trump Convention – It’s Finally Over *Open Thread*

by

Last night was the final night of the Republican Convention of 2016. Donald Trump gave a speech.

Political Cartoons by Jerry Holbert

How do you even begin to dissect or describe Trump’s self-aggrandizing load of crap speech? Where do you draw a line between typical convention over-blown rhetoric and absolute crazy bananapants nuttery? What can you say about people that cheered such poppycock?

The Washington Examiner has a good piece to start the countdown of crazy: Trump’s five most outlandish promises tonight – chronicled only the worst. There was more.

The Examiner did mention what I thought was one of the biggest lies: “Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it…”  Anyone who has been paying any attention at all knows that Trump not only doesn’t know the system better than anyone – he barely knows or understands it at all. This was total farce.

Ben Shapiro had his take on the speech too. Trump RNC Speech Makes Yelling Great Again

In Sharpiro’s own words:

On Thursday night, Donald Trump addressed the Republican National Convention. A few hours early, the press had leaked the text of the speech; I praised the text heartily (here’s the link). The text of the speech has high emotional moments, and quiet moments. It has personal stories and passionate calls to action. It has devastating critiques and a grand finale.

Donald Trump bellowed his way through it like a braying jackass.

I cannot speak to the delivery, I refuse to watch or listen to the braying jackass at any time. I’m just surprised that a smart man like Ben Shapiro, certainly no Trump fan, would think that Trump would ever not be Trump. The speech, the grandiosity, the babble, the yelling, the anger, were all pure Trump. And his cult members cheered him on. Did they hear the words? Did they even understand what they were cheering?

Did they know or care that as Shapiro noticed:

Here’s something telling: a quick word count:

Freedom: 1

Liberty: 0

There are stories all over the internet about Trump and his big night. I leave it to you to find and read them. Because I simply cannot. For the sake of my stomach and my blood pressure I cannot.

And I said:

I found myself hitting the Pepto Bismal again. I think I’m addicted.

From Wednesday night I still had the ugly image of Trump’s fish lipped kiss of Mike Pence’s eyebrow. There should be some snappy remark/joke I can make about it but the image is so distressing I just can’t. I’m not sure how many e’s or w’s there should be in eewww but that’s how I’m writing it. Yuck, just yuck!

If Trump wasn’t enough to nauseate you there was the uber phony, liar, hypocrite and all around corruptacrat Reince Priebus from my own home town. It amazes me when some lying scumbag gets all righteous and condemning about some other lying scumbag. Hence Priebus : Reince: We Must Unite Against That Corrupt Liar Hillary Clinton.

Given the shenanigans that Priebus as the leader of the RNC has orchestrated and approved his words pass hypocrisy and go that extra bit straight into bull excrement. If you go to hell for lying the Trump Convention has certainly produced a lot of future citizens for that realm. Priebus among them.

Priebus ended by calling for the Republican Party to unite. That after so many of his flying monkeys had spent the better part of the day trashing Ted Cruz for not endorsing Don the Con. Just because someone is a lying scumbag doesn’t make them a smart lying scumbag. Priebus and the RNC and the Establishment may have gotten their way this year. But I suspect, no I hope, it will cost them big. And for a long time to come. They put the sausage making out in the open and a lot of people had their eyes opened. Trumpanzees of course are too deep in the cult to notice.

Political Cartoons by Steve Kelley

In spite of Don the Con’s biggest night ever a good share of the talk is still about Ted Cruz. What many of the Trump minions who are still attacking Cruz don’t seem to realize is that by their obsession with Cruz they keep him in the media and as always his rationality will steal some of the Trump bombast thunder. And the ugliness of the attacks does nothing to unite and everything to keep the #NeverTrump people angry. If you actually support Trump it is incredibly stupid.

Chris Christie’s stupidity just gave a lot of people that don’t like him another chance to demean him and his sad sycophancy. Chris Christie Is Really Upset that Ted Cruz Wouldn’t Drink Kool-Aid with Him  Stephan Krusier’s post at PJ Media is just one example.

Ivanka Trump, that savvy pol who was too stupid to change her voting designation and thus couldn’t even vote for her own father in the primary introduced him. Ivanka Trump Introduces Her Father Donald at the RNC: He Is ‘the People’s Champion’ I’ve never understood how children of wealth and privilege have any idea of what “the People” want or need. But there she was, pretty as a picture telling us how her very rich father is the champion of the people. Her fans rushed to inform us that she was wearing a $158.00 dress from her own collection. I’m sure that’s supposed to make us think she’s one of us. If you are brain dead.

Any way there was much more fun and hi-jinx at the final night of the Trump Convention. We can talk about that all day long. But only after I run down to Walgreen’s a get some more Pepto Bismal.

Because while I’m filled with joy and relief that the Trump Convention of 2016 is over – next week is the Hillary Convention and the lies start all over again.

    time will vindicate Ted Cruz

Whenever you think of Ted and his speech, I applaud him for standing up to his principles and family after all the lies and reprehensible remarks from Cheetos Man, the bully who really is out for himself. For someone who supposedly is yuuuugely smart does he realize he won in open primaries because of cross over den. voting, who will more than likely vote for Hillary in the general.

      Helen, like this

“First, didn’t Trump threaten not only to break the pledge, but even to run third party multiple times? And didn’t his legions adore him for it? He did, and they did.

Are there no circumstances under which the honorable thing to do is to break a pledge, a promise, or a contract? We all know there certainly are. And by the way, breaking contracts and promises is a large part of Trump’s business career. Hell, it’s the art of the deal, after all. Declaring bankruptcy four times is indeed the breaking of four significant pledges!

I won’t even mention the multiple infidelities. That would be tacky. ”

That’s just it – this meme of the Trump faithful, including – astonishingly – Franklin Graham, is a false one for that very reason. It was instituted because TRUMP kept threatening to leave the party and take his minions with him (oh, God, how I wish he had), as well as constantly threatening to leave.

But heaven forbid anyone else dare to take a stand. THEY are evil and must be scorned if they don’t fall in line, especially if they have a conscience.

        It is appalling.

Wondering when Ivanka’s dress will be on the Kohl’s sales rack. $158.00 is still too high for this retiree especially after paying my liquor bill at the bar up the street.

We always thought Michael Steele was bad but that definitely before Rinse and Repeat took over the chair.

No candidate is ever perfect. Everyone including me has their good qualities and faults so finding someone that mirrors everything we want is quite honestly impossible. Don the Con is nothing more than a bully who spouts outrageous lies / sound bites which appeals to certain people but my question to his supporters is – do you really believe that he will follow thru on any of his preposterous promises?

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I had a chance to actually listen to Don the Con and the delivery of his speech when I listened to the Steve Deace show this morning which is a podcast of last night. I intend to email him and let him know that if he ever inflicts such horror on us again I will stop listening. Stop it Steve, stop it!

It was horrible. Trump yelled like, as Ben Shapiro said, “a braying jackass”. For an eternity. For over an hour. For the longest nominee speech anyone can remember. He talked longer than Bill Clinton and that’s a record. And he sure talked louder.

Deace, Todd and Aaron had just been talking about how this was Trump’s chance to show he could be “presidential”. Guess what, he missed by a mile.

I think the “Beast” which I seldom agree with, is right about this.

I don’t think Trump is deliberately trying to help Hillary or even trying to deliberately trying to destroy the Republican Party. He’s just the center of attention around the world and had center stage last night in a way a megalomaniac desires. He, couldn’t do any of this without the help of the Trump Cult and the media.

Unless the Dems are dumb enough to stage something as repulsive the RNC/Trump Convention just lost the fight in November IMO.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Well you can see why the Trumpanzees are all upset – imagine that vile Ted Cruz telling people to vote their conscience. That says a whole lot more about the scum that booed him than they realize. It says they realize they can’t vote their conscience, if they have one, and vote for Don the Con.
