Well, Vladimir Putin is continuing his push in Ukraine. And what has Obama done? Well, Obama, along with SoS Kerry, have continued to threaten possible actions. My favorite thus far has been the decision to suspend conversations around preparations for the G-8 in Sochi this June. (I have to add that the link for the decision is from NBC News, and the article has the photo op prepared by the Obama Administration of Obama allegedly looking tough on the phone to Putin in his blue jeans. In the Oval Office, I might add. I mention this because they did it without a hint of the scoffing this photo op deserves, IMHO that is. Take a look HERE.)
Sec. Kerry listed a bunch of other things we MIGHT do to Russia if they don’t knock it off including these threats as listed in WaPo:
[…]“He’s going to lose on the international stage,” Kerry said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” referring to Putin. “Russia is going to lose, the Russian people are going to lose, and he’s going to lose all of the glow that came out of the Olympics, his $60 billion extravaganza.”
Economic sanctions and travel restrictions on individual Russians are one possibility, as is a U.S. and European boycott of planning meetings this week for the upcoming summit of the Group of Eight leading industrial nations in Russia.
The United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia are members of the G-8.
“There are visa bans, asset freezes, isolation with respect to trade, investment,” Kerry said on CBS’s “Face The Nation.” “American businesses may well want to start thinking twice about whether they want to do business with a country that behaves like this. These are serious implications.”
Kerry also said that the administration was ready to provide economic assistance “of a major sort” to Ukraine. […] (Click here to read the rest.)
I am sure this has Putin quaking in his boots. Not. And I think many folks might agree with one of my Senators, Lindsey Graham, when he made this statement on Sunday:
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told CNN Sunday that President Barack Obama needs to stop going on television to threaten dictators because it isn’t his “strong suit.”
“Stop going on television and trying to threaten thugs and dictators,” Graham said on “State of the Union” Sunday morning. “It is not your strong suit. Every time the president goes on national television and threatens Putin or anyone like Putin, everybody’s eyes roll, including mine.”
“We have a weak and indecisive president that invites aggression,” he said of the conflict between Russia and the Ukraine. “President Obama needs to do something. How about this: Suspend Russian membership in the G8 and the G20 at least for a year, starting right now, and for every day they stay in Crimea after the suspension. Do something.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)
Indeed, I have to agree with Graham on everything he said on this issue. Even with Obama in his jeans in the Oval Office which invites eye-rolling all on its own, it does not make him appear any tougher on Putin, especially since Putin, even after the 90 minute conversation with Obama, did what he wanted to do anyway. Awesome.
Clearly, this situation is fluid. Feel free to add updates as they come along in the Comments section.
And now to some questions for Lois Lerner that Darrell Issa SHOULD ask this coming Wednesday, courtesy of Daily Caller. For space reasons, I won’t list them all, but I encourage you to read them all. Here are some of the top ones for Ms. Lerner when she appears before the House Committee by DC:
1. Will you admit you lied when you blamed the Cincinnati office?
Lerner initially blamed the conservative targeting on “our line agents in Cincinnati” and former IRS commissioner Steven Miller said the targeting was initiated by two “rogue” Cincinnati agents. The New York Times quickly went to bat for the administration, writing a widely mocked piece about problems at the “backwater” Cincinnati office, which allegedly operated with little to no Washington oversight. But Lerner’s own emails debunked her claim.
[…]
3. How much did the IRS collude with Democratic political operatives and how involved was the Federal Elections Commission (FEC)?
“Perhaps the FEC will save the day,” Lerner said in an email, responding to a complaint the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee registered with the Federal Elections Commission. The IRS and FEC reportedly collaborated on conservative targeting.
[…]
5. Provide every single communication between the White House and the IRS between 2010 and 2012.
Top Internal Revenue Service Obamacare official Sarah Hall Ingram discussed confidential taxpayer information with senior Obama White House officials, according to 2012 emails. Lerner also received an email alongside White House officials that contained confidential information.
Ingram attempted to counsel the White House on a lawsuit from religious organizations opposing Obamacare’s contraception mandate. Email exchanges involving Ingram and White House officials — including White House health policy advisor Ellen Montz and deputy assistant to the president for health policy Jeanne Lambrew — contained confidential taxpayer information.
[…]
7. Who ordered you to target conservative groups?
We know you weren’t the highest-ranking bureaucrat on the food chain. Now, regardless of whether or not we give you the immunity your lawyers have been trying to get you, you’re not going anywhere until you answer this question. Why don’t we make the lights a little brighter, turn up the heat in here, lock the ladies’ room door and put on the most recent Justin Bieber album. Go ahead and play it on repeat. We’re going to be here for a while. Ready to talk? (Click here to read the rest.)
Good questions, aren’t they? I do encourage you to read the entire list, and I surely hope Rep. Issa is paying attention. We deserve to know who ordered Lerner to institute this policy of targeting Conservative and certain religious groups by arguably the most powerful department in the United States. And, for those responsible to be held ACCOUNTABLE.
That’s what I think. What’s on your minds?

March 3, 2014 at 11:22 am |
After watching John Kerry make an ass of himself I wonder what I could have ever seen in him that would allow me to vote for such a man. Did the Democrat fever completely destroy my thinking process? Or was he not quite as bad then as now?
Much as it pains me to agree with Lindsey Graham, I do. Threatening on the world stage doesn’t work nearly as well for Obama as threatening the GOP or FOX News.
Kerry and Obama seem to think that the EU will “lead” the charge to punish Putin in Russia. But doesn’t the EU get a lot of its oil and gas from Russia? Will they threaten their own energy needs in defense of Ukraine? Or will they, like Obama, rattle a few sabers, make a few empty threats and then, in the end, do nothing?
As for Lerner, too bad thumb screws have gone out of fashion. (Just kidding – I think.)
March 3, 2014 at 12:46 pm |
I hear you, Marge. I didn’t care for Kerry when he was the nominee, but being a Yellow Dog Dem at the time, he got my vote – the last time I will ever vote straight party. But yeah – I think he was an ass then, but got favorable press like usual. To have him make an ass out of himself in front of the world, though, is embarrassing to be sure.
Yes, Russia is one of the top oil producers in the world, and I imagine most places in the EU do get their oil from there. Here is a link to Russia’s pipeline, and where it flows: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Major_russian_gas_pipelines_to_europe.png
LOL abt Lerner – yeah – I think the Bieber music might be just as bad, though!

Lerner will testify
March 3, 2014 at 12:52 pm |

Now she, and her attorney, say she will not testify. What is going on? Why would Issa say she would unless he had been assured that she would do so? Something is rotten in Denmark, as my Grandman Hansen used to say.

ROTFLMAO , Nunly – the thing is, that is SO likely with him, isn’t it? It would certainly explain the jeans in the Oval Office. No other president has treated the Oval with such a cavalier attitude. It speaks volumes abt this man…

btw isn’t that what the backtrack bunch want to do to our military?
March 3, 2014 at 1:29 pm |
So it would seem. I hope this is a wake up call that yes, there is some waste that can be trimmed, but not at the expense of our readiness. And if they are so concerned abt money, they can start dismantling programs like Head Start that have PROVEN to have no long term benefits at ALL, or any of the other numerous duplicate programs (including the one Obama just started for minority boys only costing us $200million).
What the gov’t has against cutting waste is beyond me, but I’d far rather they do THAT than cut our military or their benefits.
March 3, 2014 at 1:34 pm |
off topic because I need to brag
last week my great grandson did a weather report segment on a Philadelphia radio station. Well it was a contest and he won over the other kids that reported each day that week. He won $100. I see a future in the broadcast business for this kid
March 3, 2014 at 1:41 pm |
Well, congrats to him! Now, if he can only go to the White House and fill in for Obama, this country may have a chance to survive for a few more years. Tell him to watch out for that $100 before the IRS gets it. 🙂

And good question. I wish I knew an answer other than too many people allowed it to happen (present company excluded, of course).
March 3, 2014 at 5:27 pm |
Marge, there is good reason for you to be confused abt Lerner and if she is going to testify or not. One minute she is (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/03/02/exclusive-lerner-will-give-hill-testimony-on-irs-scandal-after-lawyers-said-no/), then next she isn’t, but Chaffetz was VERY clear that she doesn’t have a choice in the matter:
March 4, 2014 at 11:53 am |
This whole thing is getting really bizarre. Now she will- now she won’t. She must. WTH?
March 3, 2014 at 5:44 pm |
Good grief, this President is enough to give you anxiety attacks. I cannot believe his handlers are letting him go out and embarrass us on TV. And John Kerry, yikes. Tough talk from a windsurfer. Ai yi yi.
The media too! They need to stop putting that photo of Putin on horseback next to the President on his bicycle. I honestly don’t know whether to laugh or cry, but that photo is not reassuring anybody.
March 3, 2014 at 6:41 pm |
That’s for sure, insanity. We truly never know what the heck he is going to do next, do we? Wow. You’d think SOMEONE would protect him from HIMSELF, if nothing else.
Uh, yeah – the two of them side by side is not a good comparison to have to see, is it?
March 3, 2014 at 6:30 pm |
home schooling family that was seeking asylum lost their case in the supreme court. holder’s dept of crime won. not sure when they will be deported.
meanwhile backtrack bunch offer asylum to low level muslim terrorists to come here, but not Christians fleeing persecution.
it will be a long three years before this bunch is out of office and it is every American’s duty to see that nothing like them ever get near government office again
March 3, 2014 at 6:37 pm |
The Court decided not to hear their case, which, in essence, denied them their appeal: http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/religion/supreme-court-rejects-asylum-bid-for-german-home-schooling-family/2014/03/03/06a987e8-a31b-11e3-b865-38b254d92063_story.html
It is appalling that this same President and AG want to give amnesty to people who came here illegally, people who are demanding rights of citizens, and preferential treatment for what they are – criminals. But this family is seeking religious asylum and this President goes after them.
This really says all one needs to know abt Obama.
March 3, 2014 at 6:36 pm |
Obama on his bicycle reminds me of Pee-Wee Herman. Seriously. I feel like we’re living life inside “The Onion” News. It’s like a bad dream or a really bad batch of drugs.

I still want to know how the US Government could not find someone to accurately translate “reset.” The incompetence from this Administration has been evident from early, early on.
March 5, 2014 at 1:41 am |
If the State Department can’t translate properly, how can we rely on treaties being what the translator suggests they are? [Could be a case of signed agreement, against US interests, but signed because misunderstood basic meanings. Uffdah!]

Seems O’Reilly was running his mouth last night and comparing Putin to Hitler. I usually tune-out anything someone has to say the minute they start making comparisons to Hitler. Hitler was responsible for the death of roughly 35 Million People! How dare anyone diminish the horror of that by comparing Putin to Hitler?
Here’s an article by Pat Buchanan that I would pay a hell of a lot more attention to than anything Gasbag O’Reilly says.
Tune Out the War Party!
http://townhall.com/columnists/patbuchanan/2014/03/04/tune-out-the-war-party-n1803562/page/full

Great article, Kenosha. Yeah, I am not a fan of O’Reilly’s, either. Buchanan makes a lot of great points.
And you are right – it cheapens what happened under Hitler to compare Putin to him…

Ladies, I must admit that immunity for Lerner really riles me! I hope it pays off, but need to see it before I believe it. Are officials expected to obey laws rather than ignore them?
People like Lerner flaunt their authority, then weasel through a timed Congressional hearing, when they should be doing time in jail like John/Jane Doe. That is the only way to deter those who violate public trust.
March 4, 2014 at 9:46 am |
Lerner has not been given immunity: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/03/03/irs-emails-shed-light-on-dispute-between-lois-lerner-congressional/
Rep. Gowdy just made it abundantly clear that she is not getting it, so that’s something at least.
