Hey, All!
Get it? “Hey” Horse?Ahem. Now you know why I have’t been the one posting since my back surgery! Ahahaha…Oh, that is Peanut the Pony peeking up over his stall door. He is the resident pony at the barn where our horse, Jordan, is.
Peanut is so stinkin’ cute. This is what ALL of him looks like:
I wanted to peek in and give y’all an update on how things are progressing with me post-spinal lumbar fusion, as well as providing your Weekend Open Thread.
But first, before I go any further, I want to thank Kenoshamarge for doing a yeomans job keeping the blog going as I recover from my surgery. Marge has done a spectacular job or writing great posts filled with her wit and wisdom, as well as her trademark assortment of outstanding political cartoons. In addition to providing consistently outstanding posts, Marge has kept an eye on the Comments section, commenting and adding additional excellent cartoons, links, and stories.
Along those lines, thank you to the fantastic group of regulars who continue to share their thoughts, cartoons, links to pertinent articles, and good humor as always. I am grateful indeed to have such amazing folks come by to spend some of their precious time. Thank you so much – y’all are just the best!
My update, such as it is, will be brief. It has been a little over six weeks since my surgery. I had a follow-up appointment at the end of last week to see how things were progressing. I was HOPING my doctor was going to say I was on the verge of starting Physical Therapy, but unfortunately, that is not what he said. Instead he said I have a few more weeks of doing what I am doing. Or rather, trying not to do much of anything like bending, twisting, or lifting.
Whew.
What I can tell you is that NOT doing those things is a LOT harder than you might think. For example, try something simple like brushing your teeth without bending over. Go ahead. I’ll wait! Yeah, it’s tough, right? Or say you reach back for an item on a table, something you do a thousand times a day without thinking twice about it. Or reach up to grab something that you are SO sure isn’t going to be a problem.
Well, I can tell you one thing that happens – your back lets you know IMMEDIATELY that you just did something really, really stupid. And it will remind you every single little time you do something without thinking, and let me tell you – there are lots of things a body does throughout the day without thinking about it, just second nature kinds of things, like reaching for something or bending over, or twisting.
I might add that since the surgery, I have dropped more things in the past 6 weeks than I have in the past 6 years, or darn near close to it. I swear, I have dropped all KINDS of things like vitamins, or lids, or pieces of paper, any number of things that usually are not the kind of thing I would just drop willy-nilly. But now? Oh, yeah. All kinds of things slip from my fingers and I have to remind myself NOT to bend to pick them up. That’s when I usually go, “Suzy! I dropped something!” Poor Suzy…
All that is to say, “Mindfulness” has become more important than ever to me, that’s for sure!
I am definitely progressing, thank heavens, but slower than I would have liked. So I will continue to peek in at Comments, adding my own two cents worth from time to time, and keeping up with everyone. As I start to get better, I will start writing more often, but it will be slow going at first. Thankfully, KenoshaMarge (and occasionally Puma Forever) will keep putting up excellent posts to inform, enlighten, and entertain you. Thank heavens for Marge!
But this is a Weekend Open Thread, and I would be remiss if I didn’t provide a break from all the unbelievable insanity that seems to have overtaken our nation. I have to say, have you EVER seen so many people calling for a major political party to recall their nominee and pick someone else? I sure haven’t. But then again, I have never seen such a pathetic excuse for a candidate, either. I am speaking about Trump, but I reckon that could be said for the ethically-challenged Clinton. Then again, THAT could be said of Trump who doesn’t seem capable of speaking the truth even when he is being deposed and reading from a piece of paper with his handwriting on it. Hell, I could go on like this all day, so I’ll just stop now. You can feel free to add your own examples!
So, yeah – back to that whole break thing. At the top of the post, I mentioned the barn where our Jordan is. I am known at the barn as the “Treat Lady.” Handing out treats to all of the horses and Peanut is my way of saying hello to everyone and spending a little bit of time with them before getting down to the quality grooming time I spend with Jordan. Well, since the surgery, I have not been able to go to the barn. I miss seeing Jordan and the other boys there terribly, so Suzy is the “Surrogate Treat Lady,” as you will note below:
Bear in mind that Jordan is 36 years old, and his pal, TC (the one with the fly mask – he is missing an eye due to disease), is 33. That they are both so healthy at this advanced stage is all due to the amazing care our friend Beth gives them.
Just to give you an idea of Beth’s care, when TC came to the barn not even a year ago, he could barely walk he was in so much pain. To make matters worse, he got bitten by a snake on his leg. We thought we were going to lose him for sure, but through Beth’s care and attention, he not only made it through but is now able to move like he is in the above video. Just incredible..
Well, that’s it for me. Thanks again to Marge, and to all of you. I hope you have a great weekend. This is the Weekend Open Thread.

!st—glad to see your are getting better. Yes it will take time.
2nd—YES MARGE DID A GREAT JOB.
She made me think, laugh, and enjoy many things. Marge is a very good writer.

Thanks, Helen. I appreciate that!
And I could not agree more. Marge is just terrific. I look forward to more of her excellent posts!

Thank you Helen – but without your great additions in the comments we’d run out of things to say. You always give us links to great articles that make us think and you always let us know about cosmic happenings. Thanks to you for all you do.

August 13, 2016 at 11:12 am |
he sums it up perfectly
August 13, 2016 at 11:50 am |
I thought it was a great article. And he’s right, if anyone is “immoral” it’s people like Ingraham. I never liked her much and since she became a Trumpanzee like her even less.
Ben Shapiro tends to get right to the heart of the matter as usual. I really like his writing. I really respect him as a man and as a writer.
August 13, 2016 at 3:45 pm |
Yes, I agree – he does get right to the heart of it. I thought he summed up the arguments against Ingraham’s claims brilliantly and succinctly.
Steve Deace said on Facebook he wanted to be Ben Shapiro after this article (or words to that effect)!

What Hillary’s Tax Return Shows
The Clintons lowered their tax liability by giving to charity. Of the the $1,042,000 the Clintons gave to charity as listed on their return, $1 million of that went to the Clinton Family Foundation. The other $42,000 went to Desert Classic Charities, a non-profit that organizes a charity golf tournament with the Clinton Foundation. “They are practically tithing”.

Trump: Mary Katharine Ham ‘Says Only Bad Things’
Jake Tapper asks Mary Katharine Ham on CNN about Donald Trump’s opinion of her as a debate moderator.
http://thefederalist.com/2016/08/12/trump-mary-katharine-ham-says-only-bad-things/
Trump said he never met Mary Katherine, which isn’t true. Did he forget? Or is he lying again?
I suspect in this case he “thinks” he’s telling the truth because he can’t remember. That happens to some of us old farts. But then he lies every time he opens his ugly mouth so …
August 13, 2016 at 4:24 pm |
I love Mary Katherine Ham. She is something, isn’t she?
And of COURSE Trump remembers the whole thing differently, or that he even met her. Does he forget that there are RECORDINGS of these debates? Or things he says? The lies he tells (not that it matters to his minions)? WOW. He is just nuts.
August 13, 2016 at 6:25 pm |
Did you notice that Tapper said “I don’t know how anyone can not like you Mary Katherine”? That says a lot I’m thinking.

Joe Scarborough: portrait of a media hack
By Steve Deace
Back on May 2, just one day before Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas (A, 97%) was forced to drop out of the race following a devastating loss to Trump in Indiana, this is what Scarborough had to say about his false messiah:

Brings out the Irish in me too. The more someone tries to push me where I don’t want to go the harder I dig my heals in. We Irish are perhaps more famous, or infamous, for it but I think it’s a human trend among those who tend to be their own people and not mindless followers.

Well, as you noted above, he is SOOOOO old, abt time to hang up his goggles! 😉
Seriously, he is an unbelievable athlete, but I can understand why he wants this to be his last. The amt of time and effort it takes to compete at that level is off the charts. With his new son, and his fiance, I can see that his priorities are changing.

Jonah Goldberg: Hillary’s advantage is that she’s boring, not shocking
In a normal, healthy political system, the Clintons would be shunned like pimps in an Amish colony. But we don’t live there, so the Clintons bore rather than shock. It is Hillary’s greatest advantage. The devil we know is a boring, paper-pushing bureaucrat.
http://townhall.com/columnists/jonahgoldberg/2016/08/12/hillarys-advantage-is-that-shes-boring-not-shocking-n2203915

So the Muslim fencer who wore the hijab for the FIRST TIME EVER (ahem) won a bronze medal with her team. I am so, so sick of how much has been made of this woman just because she is a Mulsim. I mean, really. So she wore the hijab. Big Whoop-de-doo. The whole thing abt the Olympics is that they are supposed to be above politics and religion. They are supposed to be abt SPORT and good sportsmanship. Not glorifying one person over another because of their religion (especially when they got knocked out of their individual event in the first round).
I am so sick of this constant appeasement. To hold her up just because she is a Muslim rather than being an AMERICAN on the Fencing team so misses the mark…
August 14, 2016 at 11:47 am |
She’s also a whiny “I’m afraid to walk the streets in America Muslim”. That’s what the left loves about her whiny ass – she puts American down. Send her to the Middle-East and left her whine about being afraid there.
I am so sick of this crap. We welcome people from all over the world to our country and once they’re in our house they pee on the carpet.
August 14, 2016 at 11:51 am |
EXACTLY!! That just irritates the bejeezus out of me. I am so sick of the whole “poor me!” thing, as if people don’t have a LEGITIMATE reason to be concerned abt some Muslims. Not all, of course, and while I can appreciate it has to be frustrating to those who don’t have that Islamist belief, surely they should be able to grasp why.
But yeah – you are so right – that is exactly what they do. If she is so unhapy here, let her go try leaving in a country like Iran. THEN she’ll have something abt which to complain…

It doesn’t sound as if either Clarke or Walker are going to play patty-cake with these thugs. Mayor Barrett is another story entirely.
The mayor of Milwaukee has been trying to get $100,000,000 for a two mile trolley car.
He also wants to build a bike path. His priorities are typical democrat party.
Police once again told to retreat and let the democrat party’s urban youth “express themselves”.

It is especially interesting to see Lou’s reaction when his mother sends him something like this. He’s more of a prude than his mother is. He almost blushes. I nearly roll on the floor. I would if I could be sure I could get back up.
I think most of us remain the same women we always were – hopefully a little wiser not just older.
I got a kick of out the video as much for who sent it to me as for what it was. And I laughed out loud too. So I guess there’s still a little raunch left in this not-so-sweet-little-old-lady.
