And there you have it. The minority has spoken, and now a true RINO – a man just recently a Democrat who still spouts Leftist policies like Single Payer Health care and increased taxation, a policy with with Socialist Lite Elizabeth Warren concurs, truly is the presumptive nominee of the GOP. That is, unless some miracle occurs, which is what it will take, it is either Trump or Clinton, and neither one is a good choice for this nation.

There are lots of reactions to this turn of events, including anger – mine – at Sen. Ted Cruz for breaking his promise to hang in until the Convention. That he let us down, meaning, the Nation, by removing the one decent candidate left, the one person who would make principled decisions when selecting SCOTUS appointees, or return the DOJ to its true purpose, or rescind Obama’s numerous illegal decrees, or repeal and replace Obamacare, or make sure our tax dollars did not fund abortions through Planned Parenthood, and reduce our tax burden, to name just a few things, is now out. He, and the GOP, have left us with this charlatan, this bully, this misogynist, this lunatic who spouts the most insane rhetoric and claims. THAT is who the GOP is now.

And that is just mind boggling to me, as much as 2008 and the Obama phenomenon was/is. It is incomprehensible to me that so many people, even if it is a third of the GOP, would be so willing to tear this country down to seek their vengeance, not giving a DAMN about the effect that will have not just on us and the current crop of GOP Congresspeople at whom they are so mad, but our children and grandchildren. There is no doubt Democrats voted for Trump to have him be the one up against Clinton, so not only did these GOPers lose their collective minds going with their rage and anger rather than their brains, they allowed the Democrats and media to participate in selecting the GOP nominee. Even if all the crazy ranting didn’t filter through to them, one would have thought THAT little nugget – the media at which they have railed for its manipulations and Democrats – would have been a wake up call. But no. They just reveled in their man getting a third of the vote and his trash talking of anyone and everyone, no matter how vile, disgusting, or maniacal it was.

trump-laughingstockYes. I am angry. I am furious at what these people have unleashed upon this once great nation. I am angry as hell that they have picked Donald Trump out of all the good, even great, candidates we had. Donald Trump. Because he got up there and stoked their anger, mouthing empty platitudes while tossing out policy ideas on which he would contradict himself within minutes, even using a teleprompter. So, yes. I am angry as hell that they selected this true RINO – a man who has given money – lots of it – the very people this GOP Third has derided and decried for years. What the hell is wrong with those people???

What is worse, there truly is no “lesser of two evils,” as David Harsanyi of The Federalist writes:

[…] On the same day that billionaire wins the GOP Indiana primary and secures the party’s nomination, he decides to use an National Enquirer story—the future in-flight publication of Air Force One—to accuse opponent Ted Cruz’s father of helping Lee Harvey Oswald. This was just an amuse-bouche of the utter stupidity that down-ballot GOP candidates will have to deal with, justify, rationalize, ignore, excuse, or support every day for the next six months or so. One hopes the stench of this kind of endorsement clings to them for the rest of their unprincipled and, hopefully, short political careers.

[…]

The people who ensured that the most flawed GOP candidate running, the mostunpopular in every demographic category, the least conservative and the most vulgar, will blame movement conservatives and their imaginary puppet masters for bringing down a hero. They already do. Trying to placate them is a waste of time.

What sort of thing will “alienate” the average voter more? Imagine how tough it will for any decent candidate in a competitive district, running in place like Colorado or Utah or Wisconsin where Trump in unpopular and movement conservatives will be in no mood to vote in the presidential, to deal with the ugly vagaries of Trumpism day after day and win an election.

To see what the future looks for the average Republican, think about how Trump talks about women. Polls show that approximately 70 percent of women voters have an unfavorable view of the presumptive GOP nominee—in a party that already struggles to attract them. Simply by using direct quotes—soundbites, as this candidate in Arkansas did—Republicans will be forced to spend an inordinate amount of time explaining why their candidate believes mocking the menstrual cycles of journalists who ask him difficult questions is acceptable behavior.

How many voters will that “alienate,” do you think?

The idea that Republicans can localize their elections and avoid the Trump phenomena is preposterous. You’re not afforded this kind of leeway in the best of years, and it won’t happen the coming media frenzy. After Trump secures the nomination, the press will finally become hyper-focused on the massive backlog of Trump’s business dealings and various other unpleasant history. Does anyone think it’s going to be easier to share a ticket? […] (Click here to read the rest.)

No kidding. And that is just the beginning. This sums it up well (h/t Facebook friend):

And there you have it.

The bottom line is this: regardless of which one is elected to the White House, Clinton or Trump, our nation will not be the same. And that is a bitter pill to swallow…

    “Completely disjointed and impotent conservatives
But Hillary will take the Oval Office this year, not only because the feel-good party has captured the obedience of the mob (and therefore the electoral vote) – but also because of the amazing cooperation given her by the completely disjointed and impotent conservatives. By the time we get to election day, the liberals will have Hillary on the ballot. But conservatives will, to our great detriment, offer several flavors (GOP, Independent(s), Libertarian, Write-ins, etc.) from which to choose. Forget about it. After the fact, so many of us will proudly boast, “Well at least I voted my conscience!” For the last two elections we’ve demonstrated the solidarity of chickens in a windstorm (those who have bothered to participate). Whatever happened to the desperately simple, common sense of “JOIN OR DIE,” Franklin’s motto for early patriots.

What I have said here won’t win me any popularity contests, I know. But let’s see if I’m wrong.

The conservative ticket – and therefore its strength – will be effectively shredded this time around, once again. And if we lose at this sad point in our nation’s history, it’s all over for any semblance of the America the framers intended. We will not just have lost the battle – we will have lost the war.”

It is a sad commentary on where we are in this country now. The Democrats have done tremendous damage to this country, but they couldn’t do it alone. And now, the Republicans are offering up not just a RINO, but an insane one, as an alternative to another Democrat.

I truly do fear for what will become of our nation.

      • piper Says:

        Amy,
I can’t even call him a RINO, his party rightly should be called Drumpf as he is all about himself and nothing else matters except what is best for him. And his followers belong to the party of Stupid and Stupid.

  2. piper Says:

From the same article (thanks Helen) this paragraph stands out for me.

“The Republican Party is a different story, however. For those who are idealists about the Constitution–and there are probably far fewer than some of us like to imagine–there are a number of reasons to sabotage The Party of Trump, even if it ends with a Hillary presidency. The first is salvaging some of your own dignity and principles. But there are other, long-term political advantages to beating back an authoritarian populist who peddles conspiracy theories and big-government schemes and doesn’t have a freshman-level comprehension about the basic workings of American governance.”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is an important paragraph (I believe that is the same article I have above in the post).

Unfortunately, too few people care abt the Constitution, including Trump himself. I know I sound like a broken record, but I simply cannot fathom how people who claim to be Conservatives would vote for a man so woefully ignorant abt such an important aspect of being President – knowing and CARING what is in the Constitution…(Someone, I can’t find who now, had a great side-by-side of Trump at 69 not caring abt the Constitution and Cruz age 13 memorizing it…)

    • kenoshamarge Says:

That paragraph is dead on Piper. And as the politicians flock to
Trump and tell us that we must too we know that while they have no core values, indeed no core other than getting elected and re-elected, we do.

And something Steve Deace said on his show struck me like a ton of bricks – we don’t worship at the party of “R”. If we do then shame on us. Our values, our character, our sense of decency are all under assault. And leading that assault is Trump and the Trumpanzees.

Bringing up my comment from other thread.

Last night at knitting, one of the staunch Democrat (who I respect bec. of his openness and willingness to listen and agree to disagree) and I spoke about the shenanigans of Dem. voters who will and do vote for the weakest opponent to run against their candidate. He said that this was one of their ploys which they had used for many years and elections.

In 2008, I was through with the Democrat becoming an Independent and willing to vote for Republicans who have sadly turned into big nothings rolling over for just about every policy that Obama wanted.

So today I’m done supporting Republicans except for a few like Johnson. I’m still gobsmacked that the Republicans would actually allow someone like Trump to usurp their party and run as a Republican. The other really horrible practice was to allow 17 people to run in the primaries – what happened to vetting and putting out the most viable people to run.

I’m still reeling from last night announcement – my first coffee was a mess as I forgot to put the coffee insert in the Kreig.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thank you for bringing this great comment up, piper. I appreciate it.

At least your Dem knitting companion is honest abt the Dems’ shenanigans in choosing the Reps’ nominee. He could have dismissed it as a conspiracy theory or something. Well, except that it is so glaringly obvious that is what they are doing.

But what burns me up is that Reps have gone along with this. Seriously. How the hell did Trump ever even get the number of GOPers he did?? That is astonishing.

Like you, I became an Independent in 2008. I will still vote for my very good US Senator (Scott) and my Representative (Sanford), but yeah – I don’t want to hear any more from the RNC. They truly snatched defeat from certain victory.

  4. piper Says:

Last one for now – your thread is excellent.

Will not denigrate Cruz for suspending – I think the big boys told him it was over and time to leave otherwise lose his Senate seat.

Need some Maxine humor to help me thru the day.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thank you, piper – I appreciate it!

I imagine Cruz was getting a ton of pressure, too – which also says a LOT abt the RNC. It is another reason to dislike them.

  5. piper Says:

  6. GinaR Says:

Amy, everything you’ve written is what I feel. I’m devastated at the loss of this great republic, because regardless of who is in the White House – Trump or Clinton – our republic is dead.

And like you, I will not vote for either of those two. The only difference between them is that Trump is insane. A lunatic. He scares the hell out of me. Clinton does, as well, and she’ll take this country down a road from which there is no return. Trump will do the exact same thing, but because the man is insane he may take us farther down that road…into nuclear war.

That we have come to this, that the American people have decided that these two despicable, abhorrent people are the best we have to lead this country, breaks my heart.

I don’t know what miracle can occur in Cleveland. Had Cruz stayed in the race it’s possible that Trump could have been stopped from getting to 1237. But now…I don’t know what miracle can occur.

I do know this. The GOP doesn’t deserve to Rest In Peace. They deserve to burn in hell, all of them, who have brought us to this point. It’s time for a 3rd party, the Conservative Party.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Good point abt the GOP, Gina. They brought this on themselves, but by so doing, brought it upon the nation. I am reminded of this paragraph from the Harsanyi piece above:Trump has already exposed various pretend anti-establishmentarians, hucksters, and statists masquerading as conservatives—Mike Huckabee, Chris Christie, Rick Scott, and Jon Huntsman come to immediate mind. A party without any guiding ideology or principles is a party of nothing but opportunists. This goes for party “establishment”—and that includes big donors and the RNC—which has never moved to stop Trump, although his agenda and tone stands in contrast to everything they preached in their “autopsy.”

Indeed – there is plenty of blame for the RNC…

And thank you for your comment, Gina. I am so disgusted by this turn of events I can barely stand it…

  7. kenoshamarge Says:

I admit I was very down last night. Then I gave myself a good swift kick and tried to pull myself back together this morning. After listening to the Steve Deace podcast – https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/05/deace-show-putting-wraps-on-2016 – I am feeling a whole lot better. I can’t change what the Trumpanzees and the low-information voters and the cult followers did. I can refuse to join them. And I do. I am just as much #NeverTrump today as I was yesterday.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL – I am just seeing the image of you giving yourself a swift kick, Marge. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face today.

Every cycle, I hope and pray this nation will get back on its feet and back to its roots. Every cycle, the Dems take us further and further away from those values and ideals. Moreover, they are enabled in so doing by the Reps. I appreciate your gumption this morning, but honestly, I am not there yet…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I can understand not being able to shake off the sadness of seeing what our fellow countrymen and women have devolved into.

I was there this morning plus not feeling real good and wasn’t even going to turn on the computer. My hands did that before my brain could stop them. Muscle memory I think it’s called.

Anyway I decided after playing a few games of Scrabble and Mah Jong to listen to Steve Deace’s podcast from last night. I am so glad I did. I feel so much better and even have a slight, very slight feeling of hope.

Try listening – it may help you feel a little better:

        https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/05/deace-show-putting-wraps-on-2016

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am listening to Deace now, Marge. I see why it helped you to feel better. He does make a lot of good points.

His comments abt waking up in the middle of the night sobbing says a lot abt how much this is impacting him. So where he is now does say a lot.

His words abt God being in the midst of this were powerful indeed. I admit, I was not happy with God this morning, a la Job, railing at how this could possibly be, especially after 8 years of Obama, etc., etc. Like Deace said, it was the concern that “God had turned His back on us…”

But God has not. That is where faith comes in that God is indeed in the midst of this, all of this, even now. That we have to trust that, trust that God is working in the craziness of what is going on in this country right now. I have to hope that is true. And trust that God is strong enough to take the railings and despair of a middle aged woman…

Oh, and Deace’s comment abt now the fake party, media, and more in which we put our faith have been exposed for who and what they are. That is absolutely true. Absolutely true.

So thank you for this, and the encouragement to listen, Marge. I appreciate it.

When my little sister was dying, I yelled at God a lot, demanding things of Him. This potus selection clearly is not as close to my heart, but, at this time, but I do get some solace by praying “Thy will be done.” I’m not proud of yelling at God over my sister, but it really does make me feel better when I’m able to simply pray for His Will and leave it to Him.
            .

            • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Justine, I don’t know why your comment went into Moderation! So sorry abt that.

And I am very sorry for the loss of your little sister. Of course you yelled at God. It is completely natural. We want to know why, why is it happening, why won’t God fix it, how could an innocent be so inflicted, and more. We are hurting, and we want comfort. God can take the yelling, and is also there for the comfort, being with us while we are in pain, allowing us to vent, rage, and cry. God can take it, and can take the burdens as well. Leaving it to God, being comforted in the warm embrace of God’s love while enduring these hardships, is such a gift…

    • GinaR Says:

I’m afraid I’m still very down today, Marge. Unlike you, I didn’t give myself a swift kick, I went out and bought a big bag of chocolate and ate every last bite. I still feel like crap. To know that the American people are so blind and ignorant to have chosen to live in the darkness and to take us all down with them, devastates me. As far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing to feel good about. The only thing I can do is focus my energies elsewhere and try to stay as removed from the political mess as I can.

      • piper Says:

Same here – agree with your comment about voters in our country.

It wouldn’t do any good because most of us wouldn’t vote for the vulgar buffoon anyway. Just saying it’s kinda stupid.

Oh there are a few here and there trying to convince people to “unite” to defeat Hillary. That isn’t working either, but at least it’s not quite as stupid.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yeah, I have already had some friends saying things like, “not voting = Killary.” I replied that it isn’t people like ME who are putting Hillary in the White House. It is the Trump supporters who let their anger and egos fuel their rage to vote for him and destroy the RNC. So don’t try and manipulate us now – they are the ones who set this up by picking a man thoroughly unsuited for the office he seeks.

I think Hillary would be a disaster for the country but we could survive and come out on the other side stronger. I don’t think we can survive Trump. I’m even at the point now where if a third party or a write-in wouldn’t guarantee that Trump loses, I might even vote Hillary Clinton if that’s what it takes to stop Donald Trump because I think she’s the lesser of two evils.”

Question about the delegates – Does Trump automatically get the delegates from the states who haven’t voted yet?

If not, could this be the reason Cruz was ordered to suspend his candidacy, leading to a GOP Rules Committee meeting and having a contested convention.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I don’t think so, but I could be wrong. I would think that if, for example, Cruz got a BUNCH of votes in, say, CA, even winning it (it could happen, I reckon), he would still get those delegates. The delegates aren’t given up until the Convention, so unless Trump can get those remaining delegates needed, it could still be contested.

But I bet you are right abt the POB telling Cruz to shut it down so there is no contested convention…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Only if he wins those states and only the delegates he allotted unless Cruz’s people are still there and are denying him those delegates. States always get to vote – this is just the first time in a very long time that the votes of people in states like Indiana mattered. And then over 1/2 a million people threw their votes away on a scumskow like Trump.

Just in case anyone wondered, I am not reconciled to Trump, I will never be reconciled to Trump and I loathe his supporters with every fiber of my being.

Thanks, justine! Truly my pleasure, friend!

One of the thing that the Trumpanzees and those who are caving in to Trump for the good of the party are using to try and guilt us into voting for him is the Supreme Court. Daniel Horowitz was on the Steve Deace show last night and had an interesting and perhaps relevant argument about that. Because that is one of the things that really does concern me. Now? Not so much. Listen for yourself and see what you think:

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is a concern for me as well, Marge – a BIG one. So thanks for that. I am listening to the show now.

Would you mind moving this comment to the new post, too? It is well worth repeating!
