“RIP GOP” *Open Thread*

And there you have it. The minority has spoken, and now a true RINO – a man just recently a Democrat who still spouts Leftist policies like Single Payer Health care and increased taxation, a policy with with Socialist Lite Elizabeth Warren concurs, truly is the presumptive nominee of the GOP. That is, unless some miracle occurs, which is what it will take, it is either Trump or Clinton, and neither one is a good choice for this nation.

There are lots of reactions to this turn of events, including anger – mine – at Sen. Ted Cruz for breaking his promise to hang in until the Convention. That he let us down, meaning, the Nation, by removing the one decent candidate left, the one person who would make principled decisions when selecting SCOTUS appointees, or return the DOJ to its true purpose, or rescind Obama’s numerous illegal decrees, or repeal and replace Obamacare, or make sure our tax dollars did not fund abortions through Planned Parenthood, and reduce our tax burden, to name just a few things, is now out. He, and the GOP, have left us with this charlatan, this bully, this misogynist, this lunatic who spouts the most insane rhetoric and claims. THAT is who the GOP is now.

And that is just mind boggling to me, as much as 2008 and the Obama phenomenon was/is. It is incomprehensible to me that so many people, even if it is a third of the GOP, would be so willing to tear this country down to seek their vengeance, not giving a DAMN about the effect that will have not just on us and the current crop of GOP Congresspeople at whom they are so mad, but our children and grandchildren. There is no doubt Democrats voted for Trump to have him be the one up against Clinton, so not only did these GOPers lose their collective minds going with their rage and anger rather than their brains, they allowed the Democrats and media to participate in selecting the GOP nominee. Even if all the crazy ranting didn’t filter through to them, one would have thought THAT little nugget – the media at which they have railed for its manipulations and Democrats – would have been a wake up call. But no. They just reveled in their man getting a third of the vote and his trash talking of anyone and everyone, no matter how vile, disgusting, or maniacal it was.

Yes. I am angry. I am furious at what these people have unleashed upon this once great nation. I am angry as hell that they have picked Donald Trump out of all the good, even great, candidates we had. Donald Trump. Because he got up there and stoked their anger, mouthing empty platitudes while tossing out policy ideas on which he would contradict himself within minutes, even using a teleprompter. So, yes. I am angry as hell that they selected this true RINO – a man who has given money – lots of it – the very people this GOP Third has derided and decried for years. What the hell is wrong with those people???

 

What is worse, there truly is no “lesser of two evils,” as David Harsanyi of The Federalist writes:

[…] On the same day that billionaire wins the GOP Indiana primary and secures the party’s nomination, he decides to use an National Enquirer story—the future in-flight publication of Air Force One—to accuse opponent Ted Cruz’s father of helping Lee Harvey Oswald. This was just an amuse-bouche of the utter stupidity that down-ballot GOP candidates will have to deal with, justify, rationalize, ignore, excuse, or support every day for the next six months or so. One hopes the stench of this kind of endorsement clings to them for the rest of their unprincipled and, hopefully, short political careers.

The people who ensured that the most flawed GOP candidate running, the mostunpopular in every demographic category, the least conservative and the most vulgar, will blame movement conservatives and their imaginary puppet masters for bringing down a hero. They already do. Trying to placate them is a waste of time.

What sort of thing will “alienate” the average voter more? Imagine how tough it will for any decent candidate in a competitive district, running in place like Colorado or Utah or Wisconsin where Trump in unpopular and movement conservatives will be in no mood to vote in the presidential, to deal with the ugly vagaries of Trumpism day after day and win an election.

To see what the future looks for the average Republican, think about how Trump talks about women. Polls show that approximately 70 percent of women voters have an unfavorable view of the presumptive GOP nominee—in a party that already struggles to attract them. Simply by using direct quotes—soundbites, as this candidate in Arkansas did—Republicans will be forced to spend an inordinate amount of time explaining why their candidate believes mocking the menstrual cycles of journalists who ask him difficult questions is acceptable behavior.

How many voters will that “alienate,” do you think?

The idea that Republicans can localize their elections and avoid the Trump phenomena is preposterous. You’re not afforded this kind of leeway in the best of years, and it won’t happen the coming media frenzy. After Trump secures the nomination, the press will finally become hyper-focused on the massive backlog of Trump’s business dealings and various other unpleasant history. The bottom line is this: regardless of which one is elected to the White House, Clinton or Trump, our nation will not be the same. And that is a bitter pill to swallow…
